My hands continued to play with the elaborate carvings on the golden throne's armrest. Qixu sat beside me on the Silver Throne, remaining silent, studying the crowd as usual. 

I felt utterly exhausted. After the attack on Nanjing, my heart was too unsettled to remain there and I returned to the Greecian Kingdom.

Only Qixu was by my side. Ren had tried to get me to accept one of her men to protect me, but I'd refused, knowing she would likely send some in secret anyway. No need to bind them to my soul. They were her strength to keep, not mine.

Theo, Felix, and Hell spoke to me almost daily through the tablet. He had settled in well, returning to a livelier version of himself. The only silver lining in this miserable cloud we were all stuck in.
