"Houndoom, let's show them what we're made of!" I threw the Pokeball high into the air, and in a burst of flames, Houndoom materialized onto the field, its dark form sleek and ready, its eyes blazing with intensity.
Andrew wasted no time either. "Scizor, you're up!" Scizor stepped forward, its metallic body shimmering, claws raised in a fighting stance. Its eyes locked onto Houndoom, and I could feel the tension between the two Pokemon immediately.
"Folks, as you can see, Max's Houndoom has the type advantage againts Andrew's Scizor. But type advantage is not the way to win in this tournament, Max proved it when he defeated Bryan's Lycanroc."
"Scizor, Agility!"
Scizor immediately blurred into action, its metallic body shimmering as it moved at lightning speed across the battlefield. I knew Scizor would be too fast to hit with a straightforward attack in this state.
"Houndoom, Smog!"
Houndoom snarled as it released a thick cloud of dark, noxious gas across the battlefield, hoping to obscure Scizor's vision and slow its movements. But Andrew had already anticipated this.
"Scizor, stay mobile! Use Double Team!"
In an instant, Scizor split into multiple images of itself, darting around the field in every direction. My heart sank as I realized that finding the real Scizor in the smog-filled arena would be almost impossible.
"Focus, Max," I muttered under my breath. "We've got this. Houndoom, use Incinerate on the ground!"
Houndoom unleashed a wave of fire onto the battlefield, the flames spreading rapidly and burning away the smog. The intense heat forced the Scizor clones to disperse, revealing the real one still darting around at high speed.
"There it is!" I thought. My plan had worked. Andrew wasn't going to catch us off guard.
"Scizor, Bullet Punch—go, now!"
Scizor lunged forward with blinding speed, its claws glowing as it aimed for Houndoom. I could see how much faster Scizor had become, but I had faith in Houndoom.
"Houndoom, counter with Fire Fang!"
Houndoom's fangs ignited with flames as it lunged forward to meet Scizor head-on. The two Pokémon collided in mid-air. Scizor's glowing claws slamming into Houndoom, while Houndoom sank its fiery teeth into Scizor's metallic arm.
Both Pokémon let out a fierce growl as they struggled to overpower one another, the heat from Houndoom's Fire Fang searing into Scizor's metal plating. The clash sent sparks flying, lighting up the battlefield.
"Scizor, shake it off and use X-Scissor!"
"Don't let go, Houndoom!" I called out, knowing that if Houndoom released its grip, it would give Scizor the opening it needed.
Houndoom held on, tightening its bite, but Scizor's claws began to glow with green energy as it prepared to unleash a powerful X-Scissor.
"Forget the X-Scissor! Scizor, use Giga Impact!"
"Let go and move, Houndoom!"
Houndoom's jaws released Scizor just as it began charging up for the devastating attack. Scizor's entire body pulsed with raw energy, and in a split second, it rocketed forward, tearing through the battlefield with incredible force.
"Dodge it, now!"
Houndoom, sensing the urgency, leapt to the side, narrowly avoiding the full force of the Giga Impact. Scizor tore past, its momentum carrying it straight through where Houndoom had stood moments before, slamming into the ground and skidding across the field.
But there was a catch—Scizor was now momentarily stunned, unable to move after expending so much energy.
"Now's our chance!" I called out. "Houndoom, Flamethrower—give it everything you've got!"
Houndoom didn't hesitate. Flames erupted from its mouth in a powerful stream, rushing toward the immobilized Scizor. The fire engulfed Scizor completely, and Andrew could only watch as his Pokémon was swallowed by the searing heat.
As the flames died down, Scizor is on its knees but Andrew is not worried, more importantly, he's smiling.
"Scizor, use Rain Dance!"
Scizor raised its claws in the sky, dark clouds quickly began to gather overhead, and within seconds, the rain poured down in torrents. The once-scorched battlefield was drenched, the flames that Houndoom had unleashed earlier were now all but extinguished.
"This is where the real battle starts, Max. Don't think the type advantage will save you now."
I gritted my teeth. The rain was bad news for Houndoom's fire-based attacks.
"Scizor, use Flash Cannon!"
"Houndoom, use Dark Pulse!"
Scizor's claws began to glow with a bright metallic light as it prepared its Flash Cannon attack, the rain only amplifying its steel-type energy. Meanwhile, Houndoom's eyes gleamed with dark power, gathering shadowy energy in its maw.
Houndoom unleashed a wave of dark, rippling energy just as Scizor fired off its Flash Cannon. The two attacks collided midair in an explosive burst of energy, sending shockwaves across the battlefield. The crowd gasped as sparks flew, lighting up the rain-soaked field. Both Pokémon held their ground, each determined not to back down.
"Scizor, push through it!"
Scizor dug its claws into the ground and roared as it pushed its Flash Cannon harder, inching closer to Houndoom's position. I could feel the pressure mounting.
"Houndoom, don't let him win!"
I clenched my fists. The rain, the pressure, it was all building up. I had to think fast.
"Houndoom, follow up with Flamethrower!"
Houndoom's Dark Pulse transformed into a fiery torrent, the flames swirling in the dark energy as it collided head-on with Scizor's Flash Cannon. The intensity of the combined attack was enough to push through the rain, sending a shockwave across the field.
Scizor, already weakened from previous attacks, struggled to maintain its Flash Cannon. I could see Andrew biting his lip, fully aware of the dangerous situation his Pokémon was in.
"Scizor, get out of there!"
Andrew's voice echoed across the field, but Scizor was already too deep in the struggle to respond in time. The swirling mixture of fire and dark energy was overwhelming, and the rain, though weakening the flames, couldn't fully extinguish Houndoom's power.
"Push it, Houndoom!"
Houndoom snarled, its eyes burning with determination, as it poured everything into the attack. The flames and dark energy surged forward, overpowering Scizor's Flash Cannon. In a final explosive burst, the combined force engulfed Scizor, sending it flying backward.
"Scizor, get up and use Roost!"
Scizor's wings shimmered faintly as it began to glow with a soft, healing energy, its body mending itself and regaining some of the strength it had lost. My heart sank for a moment, Andrew was buying time, trying to extend the battle and recover enough to launch a counterattack.
I couldn't afford to let that happen.
"Houndoom, don't give them space! Use Fire Fang!"
Houndoom's fangs crackled with flames, and it dashed forward, aiming to disrupt Scizor before it could fully recover. But Scizor was quick, leaping back just in time to avoid the attack, its wings beating powerfully in the rain.
"Nice try, Max, but you're not stopping us that easily!" Andrew called out, a glint of determination in his eyes. "Scizor, X-Scissor, go!"
Scizor's claws crossed once again, glowing with the intense green energy of X-Scissor, and it rushed forward, cutting through the rain with alarming speed. The battlefield felt like it was closing in as the clash of steel and flame continued.
"Houndoom, counter with Thunder Fang!"
But my command was too late, Scizor is already in front of it. Scizor's X-Scissor landed with brutal force, sending Houndoom skidding across the rain-soaked battlefield. I winced as I saw Houndoom stagger to its feet, its body bruised from the powerful strike.
Andrew clenched his fist, clearly feeling the momentum of the battle shift in his favor. "Let's finish this, Scizor! Bullet Punch!"
Scizor's claws glowed again as it prepared to close the distance with lightning speed. I could tell Houndoom wouldn't be able to avoid the attack this time, not after the damage it had just taken.
"Houndoom!"
"End it, Scizor! Bullet Punch, now!"
Houndoom staggered, barely holding on, but I couldn't let this battle end without giving everything we had left.
"Agh! Houndoom! Inferno!"
Houndoom's eyes flared as I shouted the command, its body enveloped in a brilliant blaze of flames. The fiery aura surged around it, and I could feel the heat radiating off its form, cutting through the chill of the rain-soaked battlefield.
The transformation was instantaneous. Houndoom's confidence grew as the flames crackled and danced, illuminating the dim arena. It was time to turn the tide.
Scizor, still charging forward with Bullet Punch, hesitated for a fraction of a second as the sheer intensity of Houndoom's Inferno engulfed the area. That moment was all we needed.
"Now, Houndoom! Release it!"
Houndoom unleashed a torrent of fire that spiraled toward Scizor, a dazzling display of power. The flames roared as they traveled across the battlefield, racing to meet the charging Scizor.
"Scizor, dodge!" Andrew shouted, panic creeping into his voice.
But the flames were relentless, swirling around Scizor and creating a barrier that blocked any escape. Scizor attempted to veer off course, but it was too late. The Inferno consumed it in an explosion of heat and light, and the arena was filled with the sound of a thunderous blast.
The crowd erupted into cheers, their energy electrifying as they watched the spectacle unfold. The smoke began to clear, revealing Scizor, battered and unable to rise.
"Scizor is unable to battle! Houndoom wins the match!"
"He did it, folks! Max is the fifth champion of the Willowdale Tournament! What a display of power!"
Andrew returned Scizor to its Pokeball, his expression is filled with respect. "You put up a great fight, Max. I wish you the best if you decide to take on the Gym Leaders across the region."
The crowd continued to cheer as I called Houndoom back to my side. My Pokémon had fought valiantly, and I felt a wave of pride wash over me.
As I walked toward the center of the arena to collect my trophy, the announcer's voice boomed over the loudspeakers. "Let's hear it one more time for Max and Houndoom, the champions of the Willowdale Tournament!"
When I reached the stage, the tournament coordinator presented me with the trophy, a beautifully crafted gold-and-silver cup adorned with Pokemon emblems. "Congratulations, Max! You've proven yourself as a skilled trainer and a true competitor. What are your plans now that you've won?"
I took a deep breath, glancing back at Houndoom, who was still brimming with energy. "I'm going to challenge the Gym Leaders and become the Champion of the region!" The crowd erupted into applause again, and I could see some of the spectators nodding in approval.
The applause was deafening, and for a moment, I let it all sink. I raised my trophy high above my head, feeling the weight of it, this is the start of my journey.
"Max!" I heard a familiar voice call from the side. Turning, I saw Ella running towards me, a huge smile on her face. "You did it! I knew you could!"
...
At the stands, far from the stadium. A man is standing with his arms crossed, his hair is white like Max but his expression is serious.
A woman is kneeling beside him, the suit she's wearing has a large black 'X' on its back.
"That's your brother, Sir?"
"Yes..."
"He's quite skilled for someone so young, Sir. But he's not ready for what lies ahead."
"We're not involving him in our business..."
"As you wish, Sir. But the tournament is just the beginning. The true challenges will come when he encounters our organization."
The man turned his gaze toward the field, where Max was basking in the glory of his victory, the trophy glinting in the sunlight.
"His potential is undeniable, but he needs guidance. If he continues to grow stronger, he may become a problem for us."
As the crowd continued to cheer for Max, celebrating his victory, the man's thoughts turned dark.
"Keep an eye on him," He instructed the woman, his voice low and steady. "He must remain unaware of our business. Make him your friend, that will be much easier to keep an eye on him."
"Understood, Sir," The woman replied, standing up and straightening her suit.
With a final lingering look at the field, the man turned away, his expression shadowed by concern. He had seen the power within Max, the way he commanded his Pokémon and captivated the audience. That talent, while admirable, could easily attract unwanted attention, and he knew that the path ahead would be fraught with peril.
