Bab 27: Chapter 27: International Academic Exchange Conference

Ethan and Secretary Elijah continued their conversation in the car, each word a careful dance of diplomacy. Ethan used the opportunity to subtly voice his requests, skillfully leveraging Secretary Elijah's authority and influence.

"We're grateful for the support the city has already provided," Ethan began, steering the conversation toward Pokémon Biotechnology's challenges. "But right now, our biggest hurdle is funding. I've applied for a loan from XX Bank, but their maximum cap is 100 million yuan, which falls short of what we need. Secretary Elijah, do you think there's any way to assist?"

Secretary Elijah paused thoughtfully before replying. "I can raise this with the relevant departments when I return. It's possible we could recommend raising the loan limit. Your company's potential certainly exceeds 100 million yuan in market value."

"Thank you, Secretary Elijah," Ethan said, his gratitude evident.

Secretary Elijah gave a measured smile. "Don't thank me just yet. I can only recommend it. Ultimately, the decision lies with the bank and the policy review boards."

"Of course," Ethan agreed, recognizing the careful boundaries Secretary Elijah maintained. "Your recommendation alone means a great deal."

The car came to a stop, and the group exited, heading into Pokémon Biotechnology's laboratory. As they walked, Ethan took the opportunity to float another request.

"Our current lab is functional but outdated," he explained, gesturing around. "We've been planning an expansion, but finding suitable locations has been difficult. Secretary Elijah, if you have any recommendations, we'd love to hear them."

Secretary Elijah caught the hint but offered no immediate promises. "I'll discuss it with Mr. Bill and see what might be possible," he replied diplomatically.

Inside the lab, Ethan led the group to the Breeder Room, where rows of cultivation tanks hummed softly. "This is where we manage our genetic cultivation tanks," Ethan explained. "Currently, we have 120 tanks in operation, housing our biological seeds."

He gestured toward the team working nearby. "And this is Director James Hunt, our head of the lab."

James looked up, startled by the unexpected visit. He quickly adjusted his glasses and nodded nervously. The lab staff exchanged glances but continued their work under Ethan's reassuring nod.

Ethan guided Secretary Elijah to the incubation room. Rows of neatly arranged eggs sat in climate-controlled chambers, glowing faintly under the soft lighting.

Secretary Elijah's sharp eyes quickly noticed a detail. "Are these Pichu eggs? I see three distinct colors here, why is that?"

"Excellent observation," Ethan replied with a smile. "Alongside Pichu, we've been developing two new species, which you see here. These eggs belong to all three."

"Two new species already?" Secretary Elijah asked, visibly impressed. "Designing genetic organisms is no small task. Are these your designs as well?"

"They are," Ethan replied confidently, concealing his underlying nerves.

"And when will they hatch?" Secretary Elijah asked, his curiosity piqued.

"In about two weeks," Ethan said smoothly, deliberately adding a buffer to the actual timeline of one week.

"Perfect timing!" Secretary Elijah exclaimed. "In a month, Tarvok City will host the International Academic Exchange Conference on Genetic Biology. As the host city, we'll need to showcase exceptional local biotech companies. Pokémon Biotechnology would be an excellent representative."

Ethan hesitated, a wave of discomfort tightening his stomach. He had little experience in such formal settings and doubted his ability to contribute meaningfully.

Sensing his unease, Secretary Elijah smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry, Mr. Grave. We're not expecting trade secrets or technical presentations. Just your company's presence will suffice to show the world the innovation happening here in Tarvok City."

Ethan nodded reluctantly. "Of course, Pokémon Biotechnology is honored to participate."

They moved to the observation area, where the lively Pichus immediately charmed Secretary Elijah.

"My children have genetic pets at home," Secretary Elijah said with a chuckle. "But none are as adorable or interactive as these little ones."

Ethan refrained from offering a Pichu as a gift. Most were already reserved, and Secretary Elijah wasn't the type to appreciate such overt gestures—it could even offend him. Instead, he let the moment pass naturally.

After escorting Secretary Elijah and his team out, Ethan returned to his office. Barely a moment passed before Annie burst in, her voice brimming with urgency.

"Mr. Grave, another secretary is here!" she announced.

Ethan looked up, confused. "Another secretary?"

"Yes, from Panex Group. His name is Sloan. He is waiting in the lounge, but he isn't polite. He said to inform you to meet him quickly."

Ethan leaned back in his chair, smirking dryly. "Panex Group? Weren't they the ones who just invested in Jerry's company? Now they're knocking on our door? Do they think they can have it both ways?"

Annie fidgeted, unsure how to respond. "What should I tell him?"

Ethan's smirk deepened. "Tell him I'm unavailable this morning. If he wants to meet, he can schedule an appointment for the afternoon. No appointment made, no meeting."
