Fuwa's dreams were full of candy and happy things, after surviving that welcome party that the pirates had decided to throw at random, she was more than happy to be alive and grateful to whichever god was looking after her. As she lazily woke up thanks to the light that filtered through the curtains, her consciousness slowly returning to her as her eyes fluttered open, she blinked, taking in her surroundings and of course...
'Huh?'
It was only when she looked down that she realized where the silly cat was sleeping, her head resting right on her lap. Fuwa's lips curled into a smile, not because she was sleeping there, but because of something that deeply caught her attention. The smile on Raven's face, looked happy, genuinely happy, until now she noticed the strong charade and cockiness of the cat, she looked cool, and even as she smiled or talked, her eyes looked tired, like laking a spark. Now she was there, no scowl, no guarded expression, just a relaxed, almost foolishly content smile on her face as she slept. The serenity displayed by Raven was something Fuwa hadn't seen in her.
"Awww, would you look at that" Fuwa whispered, stifling a giggle "You can smile, you grumpy cat"
With care, to not disturb her, Fuwa shifted her position, though her arm still lay loosely over Raven's chest. She couldn't help but keep her watch over her, this odd girl, she met her over something so random and dangerous circumstances, but she was a box full of mysteries that she couldn't understand.
'She must had a hard life' Fuwa concluded 'I used to complain about so many things, but I never really appreciated all the things I had until I got to this place'
Fuwa brushed a stray strand of Raven's black hair away from her face, her touch gentle. It wasn't often that Fuwa got a moment of stillness since she got to this world, she had been trained harshly by the royal family, and they told her she had a quest, and for a time it made her feel special and gave her strength to push forward, ignoring how much she missed her home and parents, she could not feel lies in Raven's voice when she told her she wasn't the only one from her world here.
Meanwhile, she was deep in her memories of her home, Raven's face twitched as if chasing away a fleeting thought, and tried to say something but failed miserably. Fuwa bit her lip to stop from laughing out loud. Raven would probably murder her if she knew she was being observed like this.
Then... Raven's eyes cracked open. Fuwa froze in her spot, her heart skipping a beat. The magical moment was broken as Raven blinked sleepily, taking in her surroundings. Her expression shifted slowly as she registered where she was... and even more importantly, who was watching her.
Her once peaceful face twisted into a scowl "What the hell are you staring at?"
Fuwa grinned wide, all innocence and mischief "Good morning to you too! You were sleeping like a baby. I didn't want to disturb such a precious moment"
Raven immediately shot up, her cheeks tinged with a faint pink. She turned her head away, but not before Fuwa caught sight of the embarrassed look she was trying to hide "Shut up. You didn't see anything"
"Oh, I saw plenty" Fuwa teased, winking at her "You had the cutest smile. You almost looked... happy"
"You're dead" Raven muttered, standing up too quickly and wobbling slightly.
"Woah easy there" Said Fuwa catching her helping her to sit near her, the spell was still in effect, and she had that look she had changed into.
Last night, when Raven fell to the ground many guards rushed towards them screaming some mumbo jumbo about the death of the bunny healer, Fuwa's lips were sealed tho, and had to follow the lie. Raven never told her why she was doing it, but she understood that healers were scarce and maybe it was needed for some reason... she was dead tired at the time, but she wouldn't go down before making sure they were safe. But fatigue claimed her before she had discovered if the scouts returned or not.
"By the way..." Fuwa said "No, never mind"
"Out with it" Said Raven pretending to be upset to hide her flushed face.
"Why are you hiding yourself like this?" Fuwa asked looking at her in the eyes.
"I'm not doing it for fun" Raven finally muttered, her eyes narrowing slightly. "It's... necessary. healers are valuable, yeah, but someone like me?"
Then Raven shifted and covered her eyes.
"Okay that was a lie" Raven admitted, Fuwa looked at her and gasped, not at the revelation, but because she admitted it "I just... I" Raven seemed conflicted about it "I just don't fit into the role, I have a bad past, so someone like me being a healer seems like a bad joke, I wanted to be different for once"
"I trust you" Said Fuwa with a brilliant smile.
"You trust me? Why?" Said confused Raven.
"Because I want to" Fuwa at the moment looked more smug than her and Raven was surprised.
Raven couldn't understand Fuwa, she was a good person, but good people usually evaded her. And now for some reason, she had decided to trust in her. Not only her, but for some reason it seemed like Thorsen trusted in her too. Eruru and Kayle were smart, they kept their guard up whenever they were near her. While she was trying to make sense of this the door of their cart opened, it was one of the guards bringing them some milk and bread.
"Oh! You are awakened Bunny Healer saintess!" The man said looking at her with sparkles in his eyes.
And now a guy she didn't know from nowhere, looked at her like some kind of divine icon. She could feel Fuwa smile behind her, she was having the time of her life.
"Ah... yes I am, I thought I was done for" Raven said laughing.
The soldier passed them the stuff he had brought, it was then that Raven noticed they were moving, the wasteland was ugly as always, but it looked more familiar. Following her eyes, the soldier just smiled.
"Thank you for informing us about the destruction of the Black Port!" He said, how distracted must have been Raven, only now she noticed he was riding a horse "The scouts noticed the city ablaze in the distance and an exodus of people... they also found the rests of the other caravan" His eyes grew darker "Ah Mr. Maxwell survived thanks to you too, he is awake, he told everyone how you saved him too... and..." The guard rubbed the back of his neck and bowed "Thank you for saving my brother! The fool went to the slums by mistake and got robbed!"
It seems that indirectly because they saved the old fart they both got saved as well, she of course hadn't planned to get this far, she just wanted a reward. Also his brother? Raven couldn't remember that, but if he says so...
"Then pass this message" Said Fuwa getting near Raven "We are happy for him and of course"
The guard nodded and waved. And handed them a card too.
"We should be arriving back to the dungeon city soon! Mr Maxwell don't feel well right now, but he invite both of you to his workshop"
Raven took the card offered by the guard and sat down and couldn't help but feel strange, Fuwa was eating voracious her portion, and then she pointed at Raven's bread and glass of milk.
"Are you not eating that saintess?"
"Shut up! I'm eating everything!" And thus, Raven began to eat.
As they began to eat and drink, enjoying a silent breakfast, with the occasional snickering of Fuwa, Raven rushed her bread and then...
"Give me that!" She tried to steal Fuwa's piece too, but she was stronger than her physically.
"Eeeeh!? No way!"
Both of them were laughing and having an absurd but good time.
"Help! The saintess wants to steal my bread!"
"Shut up wannabe chosen one!"
Raven lunged again, but Fuwa swatted her hand away, laughing harder as she hugged her bread protectively "Not a chance! Go steal someone else's breakfast!"
"I'm a healer, I deserve double rations!" Raven retorted, making another playful swipe at Fuwa's food, but was once again blocked "Come on! Just one bite!"
As the city was finally in sight, Raven looked through the window and finally relaxed, it was stupid, the city was a nest of snakes but she felt at home. After all, it was a terrible idea to leave, but at least she got to know Fuwa.
As soon as they crossed the massive walls of the city, they were immersed in the sea of people. Fuwa looked through the window surprised, it seems it was the first time she saw so many different people from different races, she pointed at the crowd.
"Ooooh a real elf!" She said smiling "And a dwarf!"
It seemed that the news about the Black Port hadn't reached this place yet, but this caravan brought the dire news. It was a ticking bomb, not like this people had sympathies about them, its more about the stuff that its gonna start to be scarce, since there wouldn't be any port closer to the city some prices would skyrocket.
"We getting away as soon as we can, get ready" At her word, Fuwa just nodded.
Then Raven came to a realization, she wasn't thinking only about herself anymore. For some reason she considered Fuwa as part of her team now.
'Damn the disease is spreading' She thought mocking herself.
