Zhan Chen was most proficient in five element tribulation formation because he had already arranged it in the Zhan family estate back in his home town.

But, five element tribulation formation couldn't be considered as a top grade formation technique. So, Zhan Chen decided to skip it as he searched for an ideal formation technique for himself.

Zhan Chen had a solid grasp on this technique. So, he looked no further and pushed his soul consciousness towards the painting where he found the Eight trigram slaughter formation technique.
