Bab 23: Chapter 23 Usopp joins
"Captain Kuro was defeated? And he was using the Scoop technique!"
"Oh my God, is this really happening? Am I dreaming?"
"This swordsman is way too strong!"
It took a long moment for all the pirates to recover from their shock, completely overwhelmed by what they had just witnessed.
"…"
Jango was speechless, his entire body trembling before he passed out! He had already been struggling after enduring the full brunt of Moonlight's Conqueror's Haki. Holding on this long was impressive, but now he finally succumbed.
"This swordsman called Moonlight is incredible! He defeated Kuro with just a single strike!"
Usopp said, his voice trembling as he looked at Moonlight as though seeing a powerful force of nature.
"So strong… unbelievably strong. This guy might even be stronger than Arlong!"
Nami's mind was racing, her heart pounding.
"This guy… as expected of someone even I feel I can't match. But one day, I will surpass him!"
Zoro said, using his sword to support himself as he stood, his eyes filled with determination. He patted Luffy on the shoulder.
"Hey, Captain, it's all over. Time to wake up!"
"Huh?"
Luffy woke up groggily, looking around before his eyes landed on Moonlight.
"Moonlight, got any meat? I'm hungry!"
Moonlight: "…"
Zoro: "…"
Usopp: "…"
Everyone was speechless.
"The first thing you say when you wake up is 'I'm hungry, got any meat?' Aren't you worried that we could have been killed?"
Nami snapped, punching Luffy on the head.
"What's your problem? What's there to worry about? With Moonlight around, taking care of them is no big deal."
Luffy rubbed the bump on his head, grumbling.
"Alright, alright, thanks for everything, everyone. Let me treat you all to a meal. Luffy, there'll be plenty of meat."
Usopp said quickly, relieved now that the enemies were dealt with.
"Everyone… is everyone here?"
Just then, a figure ran toward them, gasping for breath. It was Kaya. She looked at everyone, about to speak, but then froze at the sight before her.
"Captain Usopp, it's terrible! The butler Klahadore is actually a vicious pirate captain! He wanted to kill everyone in the village and even Kaya!"
"Captain Usopp…"
"This… this…"
At the same time, Onion, Carrot, and Pepper ran up, out of breath, shouting at Usopp. But as they looked down the hill and saw the pirates lying around, Kuro, Jango, and the Cat Brothers defeated, they froze in disbelief!
"Haha, you're late. They've already been dealt with by Captain Usopp… and his friends!"
Usopp laughed loudly, ready to boast, but seeing Nami and Zoro's cold expressions, he quickly changed his tune.
"Wow, Captain Usopp, you're amazing!"
"That's our Captain Usopp!"
"Captain!"
The trio cheered, tears streaming down their faces as they looked at Usopp in awe.
"Usopp, thank you all. Thank you, everyone."
Kaya smiled at Usopp, then turned to thank Luffy and the others. She had learned the whole truth by now.
"What? There were really pirates?"
"The notorious liar Usopp actually drove them away and protected us?"
"Is this for real?"
Back in the village, the townspeople were in disbelief. They had also received the news.
After all, with the Black Cat Pirates causing such a ruckus, it was impossible to ignore. Especially when the butler, who lived in the mansion on the hill, confirmed it, everyone believed it!
"Damn, I can't believe it's true. That kid didn't lie to us this time!"
"Incredible, he protected us. I guess he's not completely useless after all!"
"I never thought I'd be protected by him one day, but I'm really grateful to him!"
The villagers laughed, their emotions mixed but grateful.
Later, Kaya hosted a banquet, and Usopp brought Luffy and the others back to the village. The moment they arrived, the villagers cheered.
"Usopp, thank you for saving us all!"
"Even though we were hard on you before, we really appreciate it this time!"
"Well done, kid, I'm proud of you!"
"You guys!"
Usopp trembled, tears streaming down his face. He had stood up to protect these very people, and now they were thanking him.
"Tch, we did all the work, but he gets all the glory as the hero!"
Nami grumbled.
"It doesn't matter. We're pirates, not heroes."
Luffy said with a smile, watching Usopp's bright grin.
"Hehe."
Zoro grinned.
"…"
Moonlight shrugged.
"You guys are something else. That's right, we're pirates!"
Nami smiled brightly, looking at Moonlight and the others.
"Time to eat, time to eat! I want meat!"
"Cheers!"
"Hey, Moonlight, don't hog all the curry!"
Before long, Luffy and the others were caught up in the warm hospitality of the villagers. Luffy devoured meat, Zoro downed drinks, and Nami and Moonlight competed over curry. The atmosphere was joyous, and everyone celebrated.
The next day, after finishing their meal, Luffy and the crew said their goodbyes and prepared to continue their journey.
Due to the events with Kuro, they hadn't asked Kaya for a ship. However, when they reached the shore, they found a large sailboat waiting. Kaya and her attendants were there, smiling.
"Usopp told me about your situation. Thank you again for everything. As a token of my gratitude, please take this ship, the Going Merry, as a gift. I hope you don't mind."
Kaya said gratefully.
"Ahahaha… we got a ship! It's huge, amazing!"
Luffy cheered, hopping aboard, touching everything in sight.
"…"
Zoro said nothing but his eyes showed his gratitude.
"Thank you so much."
Nami and Moonlight expressed their thanks, to which Kaya graciously responded that it was nothing.
"Ahhh!"
Suddenly, a large ball rolled down the hill, bursting open to reveal a jumble of clothes and other daily items.
Usopp emerged from it, looking embarrassed.
"It was too heavy, and I slipped… but I, Captain Usopp, have decided! From now on, I'm setting sail to become a great warrior of the sea!"
"Usopp!"
Hearing this, Kaya's face showed a hint of longing. She had always dreamed of the sea, though her frail body held her back.
"Wow, that's so cool! Then join my crew!"
