The Navy reacted swiftly, and all warships sailed at full speed towards the desert island. However, the pirates, terrified by the mysterious force that had obliterated hundreds of their comrades, fled even faster. The thought of facing such a monstrous strength left them no choice but to run for their lives. They ran with such desperation that they wished they had more than two legs.
By the time the naval warships reached the island, every pirate had already disappeared.
"Damn it! Who the hell did this!? Who spoiled our operation!?" Smoker roared in frustration, watching the empty island where their prey had been just moments before.
For three years, the Navy had been planning a grand operation to wipe out all the pirates in the East Blue. The plan had been flawless—until now. They were moments away from success, but someone had intervened, ruining everything.
"Colonel Smoker, what should we do now? The pirates have escaped," one of his officers asked hesitantly.
Smoker's face darkened, filled with frustration. 'What should we do?' He thought to himself, enraged. He had no idea how to proceed. The plan had been perfect, and they were on the verge of capturing all the pirates in one strike. Now, it was in shambles.
Meanwhile, after unleashing his fire attack, Ryō stood amid the smoking remains of the pirates, while Nami, obediently yet reluctantly, began tallying the bounties of the fallen pirates.
Though she grumbled silently about being forced to do such tedious work, Nami diligently counted the bounties. After all, Ryō's strength was terrifying—far beyond what she had expected. Her plan to use the pirates as a distraction and escape had failed miserably, leaving her with no choice but to follow his orders for now.
Nami, known for her love of money, couldn't resist the allure of the gold bounties. Despite her hatred for Ryō, her instinct to track every coin was too strong to ignore.
"Kakuzu-sama, I've counted it all. The total bounty from these pirates comes to 500 million berries," she reported, her fingers tapping against the numbers she'd calculated.
"500 million berries? Not bad," Ryō mused, a pleased look crossing his face. "This will increase my proficiency by at least 10%."
But just as Ryō was reveling in his success, he noticed something on the horizon—naval warships, sailing towards the island.
"Heh, the Navy is here?" Ryō smirked. "Might as well hand over these pirate corpses to them and collect my bounty."
Without hesitation, Ryō headed towards the docks, planning to meet the arriving Navy forces. However, aboard one of the naval warships, Smoker had finally calmed his fury and was scanning the horizon.
"Colonel Smoker! Over there, two figures—one of them is wearing a red cloud on a black cloak!" a naval officer reported in alarm.
Smoker's eyes narrowed. "That's the Akatsuki! A terrorist organization..."
"Their presence here can only mean one thing—they sabotaged our plan!" Smoker declared. "All cannons, target those two! Open fire immediately!"
Without delay, the navy unleashed a barrage of cannon fire aimed at Ryō and Nami.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!" The sound of explosions echoed as the naval bombardment rained down on them.
"What the hell?" Ryō muttered, confused as to why the navy was suddenly attacking. All he wanted was to turn in the pirates' corpses and claim the bounty, but now they were firing at him without warning.
"Water Style: Water Wall!" Ryō reacted swiftly, summoning the sea to form a protective barrier of water, shielding him from the incoming cannon fire.
"Navy, what do you think you're doing!? Do you intend to steal my money too?" Ryō shouted angrily, his patience running thin.
In Ryō's mind, the only explanation for the Navy's actions was that they planned to cheat him out of his hard-earned bounty.
"Money!? We don't pay pirates!" Smoker barked back, livid. "Keep firing! We'll take him down!" Smoker had no doubt that Ryō was responsible for ruining their operation, and he had no intention of letting him escape.
"You traitorous Navy bastards!" Ryō's rage flared, believing the Navy was attempting to steal from him. "You'll all pay with your lives!"
"Water Style: Great Waterfall Jutsu!" Ryō called out, his hands forming seals. In an instant, the sea roared to life, surging into a massive wave that crashed toward the naval warships.
"Brace for impact! Stabilize the ships!" a naval officer screamed as the wave closed in.
"Smoke Fist!" Smoker, using his Smoke-Smoke Fruit abilities, transformed his hands into massive clouds of smoke, attempting to counter the rushing waters. With the combined efforts of the naval crew and Smoker's quick thinking, they managed to avoid being capsized by the tidal wave.
But Ryō's attacks weren't over.
"Wind Style: Pressure Damage!" Ryō unleashed a barrage of wind-formed projectiles that tore through the air like cannonballs, crashing into the navy ships.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!" One by one, naval warships exploded under the force of the wind shells, leaving the fleet in shambles.
"Thunder Style: Thunderclap!" Ryō called out, unleashing a violent wave of lightning that crackled across the sea, striking down any remaining naval soldiers and turning the ocean into a deadly electric field.
"Ahhh!" Screams filled the air as the navy officers were electrocuted, their bodies falling into the sea like lifeless dolls.
The once-proud naval fleet was in ruins, its soldiers either dead or incapacitated. Smoker, watching the destruction unfold, clenched his fists in frustration. He knew this wasn't the end of the battle, but it was clear that the Akatsuki member, Ryō, was a force far beyond what he had anticipated.
As the chaos died down, Ryō stood triumphant, lightning crackling around him, and turned to Nami, who had watched the entire scene unfold with wide eyes.
"This is what happens when people try to steal from me," Ryō said coldly. "Let's go collect our payment."
