Chapter 309: Gifters
"Here you go." Tsuru placed a plate with mochi and tea in front of them.
"We don't have much money…" Zoro remembered.
"Correction…we don't have any money. Nami took whatever we had left." Vivi reminded him.
"Is on the house, for saving me, of course!" Tsuru said with a smile.
"I know is not much, but we keep having trouble finding ingredients lately. Well…more than usual at least."
"How come there is so little food in this country?" Zoro asked.
"You have forests, rivers, and the ocean to get food from. Is no one working or what?"
"Yes, Zoro...I'm sure they are all staring because they are too lazy to hunt or farm..." Vivi raised an eyebrow.
"The reason for our shortage of food is simple…most of the natural resources of the island have been destroyed…poisoned by those factories. Over the course of many years." Tsuru said.
"Kaido has done that?" Asked Vivi.
"Indeed…Emperor Kaido took control of Wano twenty years ago…this used to be a prosperous town back then. Now is called The Town of Leftovers. We have to survive by buying the rotten leftovers that the officials from Bakura town are deemed to give us." There was venom in her voice.
"But…at least we can survive. That's something I suppose."
"You should hurry and eat something. It would be best if you leave this town before long. I'm sure Urashima has alerted the Waiters…maybe even the Pleasures…that would be really bad." Kiku commented.
"That guys also mention the Waiters…who are they?, and what about these Pleasures?" Asked Vivi. For once, she was genuinely in need of information. It was a new sensation for her.
"You…you really came from a different island, didn't you?" Kiku asked in disbelief. It was already rare for people to make it past the powerful currents surrounding the island. But the few fortunate ones were usually found quickly by Kaidou's men and…dealt with.
"The Waiters are the lowest rank soldiers…but their status is still miles ahead of the normal citizens like us…" Tsuru said.
"Pleasures are mid-rank soldiers…they are stronger and command the Waiters. Then you have the Gifters, they are elite soldiers and all of them possess some kind of special magical ability. They are really powerful…you should never try to fight a Gifter." Kiku warned them.
"She is right. This place is not safe for you two…and especially for you…" She glanced at Zoro.
"You look like a samurai…that alone will get you into a lot of trouble around these parts, the Shogun Orochi hates samurais."
"Wait, you have a Shogun?, I thought the Sea Emperor ruled this place." Vivi asked.
"The Emperor doesnt seem to have much desire for ruling this island…he left the man called Kurozumi Orochi in charge of ruling. But of course, we all know who is the one truly in charge." Tsuru said.
"What kind of person is this Shogun Orochi?" Asked Zoro.
"The worst kind you can imagine…" Kiku frowned.
She gasped when she heard the sound of an arrow. But before it could reach her, Zoro had cut it in half with his sword.
"I heard what you said, woman!. You were talking badly about the Shogun, didn't you?!" A winged man flew over them from a good distance away.
"I can hear everything!"
"Oh no!. That's a Gifter!" Tsuru said with worry.
"My hearing ability is six times higher than a normal human. For you see, I have the abilities of a bat. I am…BATMAN!" The man-bat proclaimed.
"No, hold on!." Vivi stood up from her bench, looking very upset.
"You can't call yourself that!"
"Why not?. I am a man and also a bat…it makes sense, you know?"
"No no…you don't understand…there is already someone with that name. You have to call yourself something else.!" Vivi exclaimed.
"Is this important right now?" Zoro questioned her.
"You two!, you need to run away before more Gifters show up!." Tsuru said with urgency.
"She is right!, we can take care of ourselves, but you need to leave," Kiku told them.
"Who is this person with my name?, bring him here so I can kill him!" Batman demanded.
"Eh?...you want to kill him?...no but…he is no exactly here…" She did not know how to explain it.
"If he is not here, I don't see the problem…" Batman placed another arrow in his bow and aimed at her.
"And in any case….you will stop caring very soon!."
His aim was true and hit Vivi right on her forehead.
"Got you!"
"Oh no!" Kiku and Tsuru looked at Vivi's pierced head with despair and horror.
"We are not done yet!" Someone appeared next to Zoro and tried to punch him but Zoro deflected the attack.
"Not bad…you managed to block my lighting punch!."
The man had black horns and goat-like legs.
"I am Gazzele man!, I can run over five times faster than a normal man!" He declared loudly.
"I see…" Zoro did not look impressed.
"Now!, take this…lighting…kick!" He moved really fast using his gazelle legs and tried to punch Zoro again.
In response, Zoro just held his sword pointing forward and the other man stabbed himself…
"That wasn't even a kick…" Zoro lamented.
Vivi lifted her hand and pointed her index finger at Batman.
"Wait, how are you still moving!!?" Batman exclaimed in shock.
The tip of her finger separated, creating a high-speed projectile that pierced his skull and he fell down on the ground…dead.
"Problem solved...But I have to say, are they really the elite soldiers?" Vivi asked the two women, startling them in the process since she still had the arrow poking on her forehead.
"I feel like you girls have oversold these elite soldiers…"
"You are alive?!" Tsuru exclaimed.
"How?...are you a wizard by any chance?" Kiku questioned.
