After finishing his meal, Buggy watched Shanks leave the room. He didn't speak much to Shanks, afraid of revealing any flaws. After all, their memories had only just merged.
Buggy lay back down. His body wasn't fully recovered yet, and he still felt weak. Lying down was the best option, allowing him to recover faster.
As he lay there, Buggy began to think about his future path.
First, he thought about his strength. In the world of One Piece, strength was everything. Weakness was a sin. Without powerful strength, you were just a fish on a butcher's block, your life at the mercy of others.
This was a big problem for him. His original body, even years after Shanks became an Emperor, couldn't even beat a newly-fledged Luffy. His strength was laughably weak. And now, his strength was even worse.
Although the original Buggy later became a Shichibukai and an Emperor, it was all due to luck and countless opportunities, not strength.
Before his arrival, he had only seen this much. He didn't know if Buggy had hidden any strength, or if he had become an Emperor through sheer strength or luck.
It was all uncertain. He didn't know if he had the potential to become strong.
Buggy realized that he could try to make up for it by brainstorming ways to develop his Devil Fruit powers and through hard work. But he still felt very insecure. After all, his life hadn't even begun yet. No one knew what the future held.
Secondly, he thought about where he should go from here. When Roger returned, the Roger Pirates would disband. Roger's execution was only a year or so away, and Shanks' departure was also around the same time.
This was a time of upheaval and opportunity, a time for redistributing power on the seas. If he wanted to compete for dominance, he had to work hard to improve his strength in this year or so. Otherwise, he might be swept away by the tide of time and miss the best years for him.
Buggy knew his current strength. He couldn't possibly go out to sea. His strength was only enough to deal with minor pirates, and even that was questionable.
He wasn't like the original Buggy, who had experienced countless battles from a young age. He didn't have that kind of combat experience or determination. He had merely absorbed the memories, not lived through them. It was hard for a young man from a modern, peaceful society to suddenly start fighting and killing.
A year later, Shanks would set sail. His strength was comparable to the current Buggy, and they could fight on equal terms. But Buggy knew that Shanks was holding back. Otherwise, he wouldn't have set sail alone, remained safe, and eventually become an Emperor. Buggy didn't have that kind of strength yet, and he didn't think he could survive on the seas right now.
Thinking about all this, Buggy felt a headache coming on. He was too weak, and his Devil Fruit development was almost nonexistent. He could only split his body parts. He didn't have any real strength to speak of.
He had a year or so left. He decided he had to seize the opportunity to improve his strength after the captain returned.
Why wait until the captain returned? Buggy had his reasons. Currently, the Roger Pirates were the most concentrated group of strong individuals on the seas. During the time before their disbandment, he could learn from the captain and the other crew members. This was a golden opportunity to improve his strength.
He could also spend the next year or so learning from one of the crew members. In this year, he'd push his strength as far as possible. By the time Roger was executed, he would have the ability to defend himself. Even if he did go out to sea, the danger would be much lower.
He already had a plan. Of all the Roger Pirates, Rayleigh was the most qualified teacher. After all, he had trained a future Pirate King.
Learning from him would be a sure thing. A year or so would definitely see a huge increase in his strength. And when Roger was executed, Rayleigh would definitely go to see him off. Buggy could then use Rayleigh to pay his respects to the captain one last time.
After all, the original Buggy had been raised by the captain since childhood. He owed him a debt of gratitude. Even though he wasn't the original Buggy, this debt couldn't be changed. And he wanted to see the beginning of the Great Pirate Era.
With these thoughts in mind, Buggy fell into a deep sleep. When he woke up, it was the next day.
The next morning, Buggy got up early. His body had fully recovered, and he was filled with strength. He was much stronger than he had been in his previous life. The power within him now would be considered superhuman in his own time.
After stretching, Buggy left the room. The first thing he saw was Shanks grilling meat in the courtyard.
"Buggy, why are you up so early? Why not sleep a little longer? Are you feeling better?"
"Shanks, I'm feeling great now. I'm fully recovered. I'm full of strength. I feel like I could take on two of you."
Hearing this, Shanks was clearly taken aback. He realized that Buggy had indeed recovered, otherwise he wouldn't have said something so arrogant.
"You think you can take on two of me? Take this!" Shanks put down the grilled meat in his hand and started fighting Buggy. They went back and forth, landing blows on each other. Of course, neither of them was hurt. Buggy had his limits, and Shanks had even more. After a while of roughhousing, they separated.
"Buggy, your punches are getting weaker. They're like tickles. You said you could take on two of me? You're full of hot air."
Buggy knew what was going on. He couldn't fully control the strength of his current body, and he couldn't control the power he was putting out. So, the punches he landed on Shanks weren't very accurate.
"Hahaha, Shanks, I haven't eaten enough yet. Once I'm full, you'll taste my iron fist."
"Cut it out, you think you're Garp? Eat some more food. That's how you'll fully recover." Shanks said this because he thought Buggy might not be fully recovered yet.
After saying this, Shanks handed Buggy the grilled meat he had prepared. The two of them grilled and ate in the courtyard.
After they finished eating, they were both satisfied and started talking about other things.
Like when the captain would return, and what they would do next.
Shanks thought the captain would be back in a day or two to pick them up. They would be members of the Pirate King's crew, destined to conquer the world. They would be the only rulers of this sea, and even the Marines would fear them.
Buggy didn't say much in response. He couldn't tell Shanks that the captain would return and disband the crew, and they would all go their separate ways. Besides, he didn't know if Shanks would believe him. If Shanks asked how he knew, Buggy wouldn't know what to say.
Shanks wouldn't believe him, and his words might even cause unnecessary trouble.
