[In Jeff's Point of view]

🎶Press play, fast forward
Non stop we have the beaten path before us
It was all there, in plain sight
Come on people, we have all seen the sunshine
We will never get back to
To the old school….🎶
Avicii's silhouettes filled the place as we made our way through the swamp of people in front of the club.
The DJ must have definitely looked through playlist to know that song was my favourite.
I thought.
The music was so loud that it made my skin tingle and my lungs feel like mush. The beat pulsated throughout my body and the bass thumped in time with my heart beat as though they were one, filling me from head to toe with music.
I really loved the song.
Over the roar of music, a distant, hazy chatter could be heard. I couldn't make out any words, but laughter and constant shouting would rang in my ears every now and then. The song got louder and louder as we walked deeper into the club.
"wohoo! That's what I'm talking about!" Chris shouted as he made some weird dance moves I didn't even know existed.
🎶To the old rounds, its all about the newfound
We are the newborn, the world knew all about us
(we are the future and we're here to stay)🎶
I sung along to the song with great joy. That was my favourite part.
I couldn't help myself but to join the crowd who were jumping in a huddled group on the dance floor.
The dance floor was abused as it was filled with hundreds of uncaged college students who were ready to party away their life after a whole three months of academic works.
No-one could see the dance floor. There was no room for any more but somehow when Chris and I hit it the space magically came.
We started dancing our hearts out immediately we found space on the dance floor.
The music changed to a different one. It was a music I have heard before but who wanted to know? All that mattered was the music kept playing and the party went on.
We danced like idiots, jiving, twisting, turning and jumping and we didn't care.
Inside, we were just happy, happy and more alive than we could ever be in school. I felt the part of me that was really me come out to play, to feel the vibe of the music and let my body go free.
It was all good with the Music, friends, good times and the dance.
There was something about that party that I knew I would still remember even in ten years' time.
That was what I thought until I bumped into candy. Of all the spots on the dance floor or even at the club, did I have to find myself right in front of her?
"OMG Jeff!" she shouted upon seeing me.
I stopped dancing and looked at her in disdain.
I wasn't the kind that believed in bad luck, bad omens or the other stuff people believe in but seeing her, I couldn't help it but thought it was a sign of bad luck. A sign that maybe I should flee the club.
I shrugged off the odd feeling and pretended I was happy to see her too.
"Hello Candy!" I faked a smile. "it has been decades…" I added.
"Yes…yes…abi you've forgotten about me."
"Not really. It just that I __"
"__Abeg ooo. Spare me your long explanations." She cut in.
"We can't talk on the dance floor. Let's head to the bar." She offered.
Again, I had the feeling I should decline her offer but who can turn down a free drink?
We walked out of the dance floor to the bar. The sound of the music became faint as we walked away.
We sat down over the counter and she called for two shots; one for each.
"so where have you been?" I asked her after I gulped my shot in haste.
Her eyes widened at my question.
"Are you seriously asking me that? Don't I look like a student of this university? Where else could I have been except be in this school?"
I laughed off her answer. I knew my question was out of place but what else could I have asked? I wanted to start a conversation.
"You know I miss our time together? I miss all these..." She looked over at the dance floor and paused as if to remember something.
"...The frequent night outs, the drinks, the dance. I mean all the fun." She added and signaled the bartender to bring more shots.
"No…no…I think I've had enough Candy. I have a game tomorrow I can't get drunk." I explained.
"Woah? Who are you and what have you done with Jeff?" Awe transformed her face.
"I find it hard to believe a whole jeff is turning down drinks. You are no fun anymore."
"Not that…but as I said, we have a game tomorrow and I can't afford to wake up with a hangover." I tried explaining but her expression suggested to me she wasn't going to stop until I take the shots.
"We are not getting drunk. We are just having shots." She said.
We both burst into laughter at her remark.
We used to say that when ever we went clubbing every Friday night.
With the thought of that, I was suddenly overwhelemd with memories. I couldn't help it but remember my time with her.
I would be a jerk to say It wasn't fun.
Candy was like the female version of me when I met her. She was a very crazy girl who cared less about what people think about her.
Very free-spirited and out-going; exactly everything that I was back then. I got attracted to her on our first meeting. We were very new to the university at that time and it was at one of the numerous freshers' party the school had.
I got awed by her and we eventually hooked up. It was a fling then. Just a random hook up based on mutual understanding with no strings attached.
"We are just two grown naïve high school leavers who are lucky to find ourselves in the university and are just hooking up on mutual understanding. No string attached."
I remembered her exact words on that day.
I gave a lopsided grin at the return of these memories.
"What is causing you to grin?" she
asked.
"Nothing. I will have two more shots with you ok? Then we are done. Deal?"
"Yeah! That's the Jeff I know. welcome back pal." She laughed and pulled the glasses forward. She lined them up.
Two at my end and two at hers. She looked at me and winked. I knew then she wanted a battle with me.
"You know you can never beat me to this game right?" I said and pulled one glass closer.
She repeated the pattern and in seconds, we both rushed the glasses of gin down our throats. We went for the other glass and drunk it.
With a thump, she placed her glass down on the counter and shouted, "I did it!"
"I told you I have aced my game." She added.
I placed my glass down and looked at her.
You never cease to amaze me.
I thought as I sat there feeling like a complete failure.
Then and there, I realized this wasn't going end at only two shots. I had to win my pride back.
"You cant claim champion over only two glasses you know that right? Im in for another round." I signaled for more glasses.
After having more than six glasses, we were both dead drunk. We sat there talking about the past. We laughed it over and goofed around.
🎶I'm daydreamin',
let me count the ways
How I'll get you or
how I'll make you pay
(Mhm mhm mhm mhm mhm mhm)
Babe, I'm hurtin' and now you'll feel the same
That's my plan, that's my plan,
that's my plan, mhm
(Mhm mhm mhm mhm mhm mhm)🎶
In distance, we heard Revenge by pink being played.
Candy looked at me and I returned the look.
"are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
She asked wearing mischievous look.
"Hell yeah!" I replied and in haste we rushed to the dance floor.
