The sound of their footsteps were so profound as they walked on the tiled floors. Colette was close behind Dr. Collins as he was leading her back to her cell now. She still couldn't deny that today was a good one, despite the constant teasing's that she got from Dr. Collins.
Furthermore, she was able to interact and talk with 049 more. Who still liked her company. He even saw her as an equal, which was a big deal to her.
"I still can't believe it!" laughed Dr. Collins suddenly.
"Can't believe what?" asked Colette now curiously. She even looked at him in question, due to him all of a sudden laughing.
"049 definitely likes you! Which is such a shock!" replied Dr. Collins as he looked at her now. "Just what did you do?"
Colette was surprised by his words, and she also knew that he was probably teasing her again. Narrowing her eyes at him, did she say her reply, "I did nothing to him! Just so you know! He was the one to call out to me!"
"Oh?" blinked Dr. Collins.
"I'm telling the truth!" nodded Colette honestly.
"I see?" smiled Dr. Collins as he closed his eyes and shrugged nonchalantly.
His reaction to her made her frown more. She definitely could sense that he didn't believe her. That or he was pretending to believe her.
Colette merely sighed as she shook her head at Dr. Collins. She couldn't help but do this, for Dr. Collins was just that one guy that liked to push peoples buttons. A little bit too much for her liking. As they continued to walk, there was little to no more words shared between them.
She could also see her cell now, and she was actually grateful about that.
"Welp see you tomorrow huh?" asked Dr. Collins as he stood in front of her cell door.
"Wait..." blinked Colette now, "I'm seeing you again tomorrow?"
"Yep!" grinned Dr. Collins as he opened her cell door for her. "I'm looking forward to it! Aren't you!"
"Hehehe...yeah can't wait?" nervously laughed Colette now as she tried her hardest to smile.
Dr. Collins laughed at the look on her face, as he smiled. "Great!?! Good work today!"
Colette kept that smile on her face, as she walked into her cell. She even closed the cell door behind her, so there was distance between her and Dr. Collins. Once she was sure that he had left, did she let out a huge sigh of relief with her eyes closed.
"Man that guy is so..." groaned Colette who was struggling to find the right word for Dr. Collins.
In the end she couldn't find a good enough word for him, and so left it at that.
Shaking her head after sometime did she approach her bed, and was quick to lay down upon it. Once comfortable, did she release another sigh as her mind strayed to her talking with 049 today. Her poor mind was still unable to figure him out.
"I'm to tired to think..." sighed Colette now as she closed her eyes and placed her right arm over her closed eyelids.
It didn't even take that long afterwards as she fell asleep.
****
"Time to wake up!?! Another day is upon us!" cheerfully spoke up Dr. Collins that next morning, as he stood before her cell door. Colette who was still sleeping, woke up with a loud groan. Slowly but surely did she sit up while rubbing her eyes of sleep.
Yawning softly to herself, did she stretch her arms over her head. But she jumped lightly to the sound of her cell door opening, as Dr. Collins allowed himself in.
"Ready for another glorious day!" asked Dr. Collins with a smile.
"I guess...?" replied Colette who still looked a little sleepy.
Dr. Collins was quick to laugh as he walked outside of her cell. "Let's go!"
Colette rubbed her eyes one last time before following after the doctor, who had way too much energy.
"What are we doing today..?" asked Colette who was still trying to wake up.
"We be doing it again like yesterday! Talk to 049 as much as you want! About anything!" beamed Dr. Collins in reply.
Colette looked at him in surprise, for she didn't expect this again. Then again it was such a big deal according to Dr. Collins, that 049 took great interest in her. Apparently it was such a shock to people, that everyone here just couldn't believe it.
Should she feel special about that fact?
That she didn't know.
"Okay then..?" replied Colette now as she stifled a yawn that was slowly emerging from her.
Dr. Collins happily nodded while humming a random tune again as they made it to the cell, which held 049.
Colette could see the cell that held 049 as they walked closer, and not even a second later did she see 049. But his back was to her, so he didn't see her right away. Before she could say anything, did Dr. Collins beat her to it, "Hello 049! We are here to see you again!"
Shaking her head at his words, she couldn't help but feel embarrassed. She even placed her right hand up to somewhat hide her face from the world.
"Ah Colette!" 049 was swift to turn around, and it was clear that the entity ignored Dr. Collins. "It is good to see you again!"
"Again he ignores me..." grumbled Dr. Collins who looked somewhat offended.
Colette smiled as she removed her hand from her face, so she could look at 049. "Likewise!"
049 nodded at her while leaning in her general direction, and from the looks of it. He was firmly holding onto the journal that he was making for her. "I have great news, Colette! I am almost done with the journal!"
"Really!" smiled Colette excitedly. It was like she had forgotten how tired she was mere moments ago.
In reply to her and her enthusiasm, did 049 nod as he chuckled. "Yes! I will be able to give it to you tomorrow!"
Colette's smile grew, for she couldn't wait to read the journal that he has made for her.
However she blinked at Dr. Collins, as he spoke up with a smile. "Oh interesting! I can't wait to see it as well!"
It was then that it dawned on her, since they treated her as a criminal. Does that mean that they decide what she gets?
Would they take the journal away from her, if 049 was to give it to her?
Blinking her eyes suddenly, did she hear a firm tone of voice from 049. His voice was so unfriendly now as he looked at Dr. Collins coldly. "This journal is not for you to read sir! Only Colette will be allowed to read and keep this journal!"
Dr. Collins looked at 049 now, without a smile. It was like his whole demeanor has changed. "Is that so?"
Colette was actually surprised by this change in Dr. Collins all of a sudden. He looked so serious as he stared at 049 now. She even felt chills going down her spine as she looked between the two of them.
What just happened?
Why was it so tense all of a sudden?
The first one to look away was 049, as he turned his head to look back at Colette. She even watched him as he did so, and was surprised by the difference in his eyes and voice. He was speaking to her, so cordially now. "Do not fret, Colette. No one will take this journal from you."
"Okay!" replied Colette as she nodded to him softly. She did however glance at Dr. Collins, who was quiet now. Again seeing him react so differently, made her feel uncomfortable.
As Colette shifted her gaze quickly back to 049, did she hear Dr. Collins laugh again. But this time his laughter rubbed her the wrong way. "I guess I will leave you two to talk! Be back shortly!"
With those words spoken, did Dr. Collins leave without another word.
The moment that he was gone, did 049 chuckle out. "Do not be intimidated by him."
Colette looked at him completely puzzled. What did 049 mean by that. "Huh?"
"He won't do anything to you. After all him and everyone else here needs you to get to me." 049's words were so different from what she was use to. It just made it all the more harder for her to understand him.
"I guess so..?" replied Colette as she softly hugged herself. She seriously was so confused by what was going on now, not to mention that she was still worried about her mother. Wherever she could be in this place. Her face now showed her worry as she thought about her mother. Unbeknownst to her, 049 was watching her features closely.
The entity watched Colette as she hugged herself now, she even had a saddened look upon her features.
Or was it worry?
That look on her face, it bothered the entity.
But why?
"Is there something the matter, Colette?" 049's sudden question actually took her out of her thoughts. Once more, his voice sounded so confused.
Colette looked at him now and saw that he was looking at her so intently. The look that she could imagine behind the mask, is that of both concern and confusion. Softly did she smile at him, "I am okay! Just a little surprised by Dr. Collins and how he changed?"
Should she tell 049 the truth?
That she was worried about her mother?
"I see." replied 049 as he looked in the direction where Dr. Collins went to.
Colette looked in the same direction as well for a little bit before returning her gaze to 049. It was then that she smiled at him. "I want to thank you for being so kind to me!"
"Oh?" chuckled 049 in amusement, as his gaze looked at Colette. "You do not need to thank me."
"But I do! You have been so kind and even going out of your way to help me! I really appreciate it!" grinned Colette now with her eyes closed.
049 chuckled at her kind words, while even staring at her as she grinned. Again she was unaware of how much that affected the entity.
Colette opened her eyes as her grin became a smile, and she blinked at 049 as he shifted the journal to her. She guessed he did this so she could see it better, but what she didn't expect was to see her name having been embroidered onto the front of the journal in gold threading. "You did that...!", she gasped out.
049 nodded as he chuckled. "Yes, I hope it is to your liking?"
Colette nodded at him with her smile growing, but she looked at him somewhat confused. She even was looking into his cell now and saw no machine to embroider with. "Did you do that by hand?"
049 nodded as he brought the journal back into his arms, he then chuckled. "Yes."
Colette smiled at him and how poised he was at this very moment. He looked so comfortable, even though there was not much of anything within his cell from what she could see.
She shouldn't be surprised at this point, after all he must be bored sitting in his cell all day. So of course he has been writing and doing some other things to pass the time.
Colette had to admit that he was a strange individual, but at least he was kind. "Well thank you for making the journal for me."
"But of course, Colette. You and I both will stop this sickness that plagues these lands together. I am sure of it." nodded 049 confidently.
"I am sure that we will!" laughed Colette who felt rather empowered right now. Though she felt uneasy around 049 from time to time, she couldn't deny that he wanted to in someway help her.
049 chuckled at her with his eyes closed, the entity was without a doubt calm in her presence. For Colette had such an aura about her, that was soothing. It was almost like she was made of lavender. Before he could say anything to her, did two guards all of a sudden approach Colette.
Seeing the guards come at her in an intimidating manner, took Colette by surprise. Flinching her head in reply, was she shouted at. "Come!?! You are being returned to your cell!?!"
The entity watched the two guards talk so aggressively with Colette. A feeling of great agitation emerged from within the entity. No doubt that Dr. Collins was the reason for this.
Colette had her head down in submission to the guards, as they shouted at her. She was even pushed by one guard, which made her gasp loudly in surprise and fear. Cautiously did she look back at 049, and what she saw was how cold his eyes were.
A feeling of dread went over her, the moment she looked at his eyes. While the guards ignored 049, the entire time.
The guards didn't even wait for her to say anything either, as she was forced away from 049, and his cell. She was practically forced back into her cell by the two guards, without a reason why. As she was pushed into her cell, did she watch the cell door close loudly behind her in a slam.
"W-what just happened..?" skittishly asked Colette to herself.
Colette just stood there within her cell, with a scared look upon her features. The only thing that made sense to her was that she was in trouble. But what exactly did she do?
Her mind rattled in fear at this moment, if she was in trouble then that meant that these people would most likely take it out on her mother. Would they do such a cruel thing though?, asked Colette now who was absolutely fearful.
She stood there now with her eyes fixed on the door, for she was waiting for someone to come and tell her what she did wrong. But alas nobody came.
Colette had been standing there in the same spot for two hours, as she waited. Once it was clear that no one was coming, did she finally allow herself to sit down on her bed and give her aching feet a rest.
That was foolish of her to stand there for two hours, but she couldn't help it. She was just that scared for her mother.
As she sat there and continued to wait for someone, was it already the next day.
****
Next thing she knew...
A whole two weeks went by for Colette after that, and still no one came to talk with her. Not even Dr. Cade came by to talk with her, and if anything that made her fear that much worse.
Though on the contrary a few guards did come by, but that was to give her food and that was it. Not even the guards talked with her, or told her anything.
"W-what am I going to do..?" asked Colette to herself as she was hugging her knees to her chest, while sitting on her bed.
No one came by, and no one has told her anything that she has done wrong.
Again she was left in the dark...
Placing her head down on top of her knees, did she let out a sigh as she stared at the cell door within her cell. Her eyes were shaking, which showed all of her emotions.
She was so lonely right now, and to make things worse she was not able to get that journal from 049.
Why did this have to happen? Things were going so well to?, grumbled Colette's mind.
Closing her eyes now, did she feel her heart beat like crazy with so much uncertainty. Just what was going to happen now, once they do talk with her again.
The moment she was getting ready to take a deep breath to calm herself, did a new sound occur. Opening her eyes in great surprise, was then that she realized that the sound she was hearing, was actually an alarm going off.
What is this alarm?, asked her mind at this moment as she stood up and looked at the door in question.
Her eyes grew wider to the voice that was in the alarm.
"THERE HAS BEEN A CONTAINMENT BREACH!?!"
"A breach...?" questioned Colette as she listened to the alarm quite closely. "What does that mean..?"
Sharply she looked at the door, at the sound of screams, along with that of distant gunshots. These sounds made her feel, very terrified.
"W-what is going on...!" hissed Colette as she ran to the door now, in a vain attempt to figure out what was going on outside of her cell.
A new sound soon captured her attention however, and that sound was to her cell door being opened. "...!"
Quickly she moved away from the door in fear, as she watched the door open before her. What she didn't expect, was that it was 049 who had opened her door.
"Ah! There you are!" spoke 049 in great elation once he saw her. "I hope you are well?"
"H-how are you...!" stammered Colette now in pure astonishment.
049 merely chuckled at her as he entered her cell quite calmly. "I have been worried about you, so I came to see you."
"O-oh sorry about worrying you..? They have been keeping me here so?" replied Colette as she nervously smiled at him.
"Ah, I see." nodded 049. "I suppose you were not aware of what they have told me?"
"Huh? What did they tell you?" blinked Colette curiously. After all no one told her anything.
049 merely crossed his arms across his chest, as he stood tall and confident as he spoke. "They threatened me, spoke of harming you if I don't do as they say."
"Really..!" gasped Colette now with wide eyes. She watched him as he nodded to her in reply.
That settles it to her, these people were very cruel.
Trying to push those thoughts away for a little bit, did she watch 049 now. Just his posture said a lot, for he was not scared, he didn't even look like he was in a hurry either. He actually didn't show that he cared about the alarm going off as well.
Why is that?, asked her mind.
049 looked around her cell now curiously before looking back at her, it was then that he remembered something. "Ah! That's right!"
Colette looked at him curiously as she tilted her head, but she blinked as he pulled out the journal that he has made her. "Oh..!"
049 nodded at her as he approached her bed, and this confused her. Why is he putting it on the bed?
Her eyes were fixed on his movements, along with his hands which were covered in black gloves. She was pretty much staring at him, as he showed great care to the journal that he has made her.
Colette's gaze lifted to look him over afterwards, after watching him. It was then that she noticed, that he looked so very different in person.
What is that under his clothes?, blinked Colette now when she took notice of it. Something looked to be growing from underneath them.
"I hope the journal teaches you well. Please tell me later, if you have questions." spoke 049 now as he shifted to look at her.
Coming back from her thoughts now, did Colette nod with a smile. "Of course!"
049 nodded as he chuckled, and his next action took her by surprise.
"What are you doing?" asked Colette with wide eyes as she watched him sit down onto her bed.
"I merely wish to sit here, and talk with you some more. At least until they come for me." replied 049 whose arms were crossed over his chest again. Even his legs were crossed, which made him look rather comfortable yet sophisticated.
"Okay!" smiled Colette now as she softly walked over and sat down beside him. In all honesty, she was glad to talk to 049 again.
049 looked at her calmly, with his eyes showing great interest. "Tell me? Do you know French?"
"No I don't? I'm sorry!" apologized Colette now. Her concerns on that matter, went out the window as he chuckled. "It is quite alright, Colette. I will teach you how to speak it."
Colette looked at him in surprise before smiling at him, she then looked at the journal that he had made her with interest. Softly she picked it up and held it close to her chest.
Just by her doing that to the journal, made the entity feel joy.
Why is my heart beating so funny right now?, questioned Colette now as she looked at him. She even felt nervous, as 049 somewhat leaned toward her a bit.
A question soon crept up into her mind. Should she ask it? Before she could figure that out on her own, did she hear 049 speak. "I missed our chats, Colette."
His words, almost sounded sincere to her. Which was probably why she felt her heart beat faster. "Oh yeah?", she finally managed to get out.
049 nodded at her before looking at the corner of her cell suddenly, and she watched him as he stood up and looked at the camera that was in her room.
"I see. They watch you as well?"
"Yeah." replied Colette as she watched what he does.
049 merely stared at the camera for sometime, before returning his attention onto her. What he did next took her by surprise, for he actually pulled the camera off of the wall with ease.
Once he was satisfied with taking down the camera, did he return himself down onto the bed, as he sat beside her.
"I take it you don't like cameras?" asked Colette with a bit of a smile.
"Not really." chuckled 049. "These people are to focused on the wrong things."
Colette softly laughed at him, but it was cause she agreed with him to some extent. These people were to focused on watching their every move, rather than doing anything else that was productive.
Now thinking about it, her and 049 were comfortably talking to each other while the alarm continues to yell in the background. This was all so strange, and yet she felt happy.
"Thank you for the journal! I will take good care of it!" smiled Colette.
"I know you will." replied 049 who nodded. He even let out a rather comfortable laugh.
Such a strange relationship that they had, and even Colette could admit that. Sure, they didn't really know each other all that long. But it was like that didn't matter. Each day they spent, was like a year to them.
Why were they drawn together so?, Colette just couldn't find the answer. At first when she came here, 049 was drawn to her but now she was going through the same thing. This was just to strange to her.
Just what was going on?
Colette looked at him curiously up until the sound of the alarm went off. "Oh..!"
"They will be here soon." chuckled 049 whose eyes were closed.
"Will they?" asked Colette now. "Just how did you get out of your cell?"
"It is not that hard, I assure you." replied 049 as he looked at her. "I merely caused a temporary distraction."
Colette tilted her head and as she did this, did 049 chuckle at her. "In time you will see what I mean. Until then, please read the journal."
"Okay!" nodded Colette.
No less than a minute later, the sound of the guards rushing in caught their attention. Colette was quick to look at her door, due to how loud the guards were being.
049 calmly stood up for he showed no fear and he walked out of her cell, rather calm like. Colette was quick to hide her journal underneath her bed pillow, as she stood up to look after 049.
Did he escape just to see me?, asked her brain in a crazy frenzy. It was like she couldn't believe it, but yet it happened.
The sound of the guards were clear as day, as they yelled orders at 049. She watched this happen to 049, and to her surprise he willingly obeyed them.
He allowed himself to be caught.
Colette was speechless now, as she watched 049 be taken away by the guards. She also watched as a guard closed her cell door loudly, with a firm slam.
As the story progresses further will things turn a little serious. I hope you will look forward to it! It would also seem like Colette and 049 are getting closer, but what will happen as they do so?
Find out in the next one! ^^
