I've got it. An idea sparks to life in my head, and it's like a light bulb flickers above me. Psychically true or not, everyone looks at me with anticipation, as if they're waiting for some brilliant revelation. I lift my hand and wave it through the air above my head.

Now they look confused. Good. Confusion makes them easier to surprise, and surprise means less time for them to react. That's how I'll win—take note.

"I see we're not getting anywhere with this," I start.

Carrie groans, throwing her head back. "It'd be easy if you just walked out the door and minded your own fucking business, Sunbae."

So much for confusion. Carrie's just angry, and that's not a good sign.

I adjust my tone, softer this time. "Okay, but I'm not going anywhere."

Carrie rolls her eyes like I'm the most exhausting person alive. "Leave."

"What about this?" I try, hinting at a plan.
