Bab 132: Chapter 132: The Joint Investigation

"Do you want the Akatsuki to go to war with the Five Great Shinobi Countries, or would you prefer they remain in hiding?" Shishou asked Mei Terumi with a smile.

Although the Akatsuki members were formidable, they still couldn't match the combined might of the Five Great Shinobi Countries.

Mei sighed in response, "Honestly, it doesn't really matter."

"If the Akatsuki continues to lie low, it might give Kirigakure a few years to develop. But that bomb will eventually go off, and the war it causes later might result in even more casualties than if we confront them now."

Shishou nodded in agreement. The Fourth Great Ninja War was a prime example of this.

However, his primary concern wasn't the fate of the Akatsuki but how to spend some quality time with Mei Terumi.

In the Land of Lightning, Kumogakure.

The Raikage's Office.

The Fourth Raikage, A, sat at his desk, his expression stern as he read the letter from the Fourth Kazekage.

"Mabui, what do you make of this battle outside the Sand Village?" he asked, tossing the letter onto the desk and leaning back in his chair.

The revelation that the masked man from the Akatsuki had used the Deep Forest Emergence wasn't surprising to the Fourth Raikage. What caught his attention was the jutsu that created a miniature moon.

"I just received a letter from the Third Hokage. He suspects that the destructive fire release jutsu was likely performed by the masked man from the Akatsuki," Mabui said, holding the files close to her chest and speaking calmly.

"We don't know the exact details of the battle, but this alone means we should take the Akatsuki more seriously. As for the masked man's opponent, I believe it might be the Flying Thunder God user who once helped Kirigakure."

The Fourth Raikage nodded in agreement. An individual capable of wielding two large-scale jutsus was indeed a threat that needed to be addressed, as was the organization behind him.

"But is the opponent really the Flying Thunder God user from Kirigakure?" he pondered aloud.

"Raikage-sama, a new intelligence report from the Mizukage has just arrived," Samui announced, entering the office with a fresh letter.

The Fourth Raikage quickly opened the letter and read its contents. Suddenly, his hand slammed down on the desk, causing a loud thud.

Mabui and Samui exchanged puzzled looks, wondering what had shocked the Raikage so much.

"Read it for yourselves," he said, handing over the letter, his face darkened with concern.

"What? The combatants were the Akatsuki's masked man and their leader?" Mabui's face turned pale as she finished reading.

If both fighters were from the Akatsuki, then their previous assessment of the organization would need to be completely revised. The existence of two such powerful individuals within the Akatsuki meant that they could indeed pose a significant threat to the Five Great Shinobi Countries.

The descriptions of giant summon beasts, vast fire release techniques, Deep Forest Emergence, and the creation of a miniature moon left Mabui deeply unsettled.

"Calm down," Samui said coldly, trying to regain her composure after reading the letter.

The Fourth Raikage, having made up his mind, turned to Samui. "Samui, summon Bee and Yugito back to the village. We might need them soon."

Yugito Nii was currently training on Turtle Island with Killer Bee, striving to perfect her control over the Two-Tails to prepare for a potential rematch with Shishou.

"Send a message to the other villages. Kumogakure agrees to join the joint investigation," he ordered Mabui.

The threat posed by the Akatsuki, with their apparent focus on the tailed beasts and their hosts, had to be eradicated as soon as possible.

"Yes, Raikage-sama," Mabui and Samui responded in unison, leaving the office to carry out their tasks.

In the Land of Earth, Iwagakure.

The Tsuchikage's Office.

"So, they have such hidden strength?" chuckled the Third Tsuchikage, Onoki, as he floated midair, reading the letters from the Fourth Kazekage and the Fifth Mizukage.

Neither the masked man's Deep Forest Emergence nor the Akatsuki leader's miniature moon creation threatened someone with Onoki's Dust Release.

What surprised him was the revelation that the Akatsuki had two such powerful members.

"Two tigers cannot share one mountain," he mused. The infighting between the masked man and the Akatsuki leader seemed natural to Onoki.

Still, the Akatsuki's potential threat to the Five Great Shinobi Countries could not be ignored.

"Inform the other villages that Iwagakure will participate in the joint investigation," he instructed Akatsuchi.

"Understood," Akatsuchi responded, leaving to relay the message.

Perhaps I should find a successor for the Dust Release, Onoki thought as he floated to the office window, watching the people of Iwagakure below.

Though he felt confident in his own abilities, facing the Akatsuki leader and the masked man alone could be overwhelming. It was time to cultivate some strong allies.

Both the Four-Tails and Five-Tails Jinchuriki harbored significant resentment towards him and were unlikely to help. Deidara had the potential but lacked the motivation, being more interested in his explosive art. Akatsuchi was too slow, and Kurotsuchi, while talented, wasn't quite ready.

"Finding a successor is proving difficult," Onoki sighed, worrying about Iwagakure's future.

An explosion suddenly echoed from the village square, causing Onoki to twitch before darting out of his office.

"Deidara! You've blown up another statue! Get back here!" he shouted.

"You old fossil! I never liked those statues. I'll blow them all up!" Deidara retorted, flying away on his clay bird.

"I'll teach you a lesson today!" Onoki yelled, chasing after him.

"Catch me if you can!"

Kurotsuchi, just out of school, watched the chase with a shake of her head. "You two are so annoying. Can't you find something else to do?"

At dusk, in an unnamed cave.

Before the Gedo Statue, spectral images of the Akatsuki members began to appear.

On the statue's right thumb, Pain opened his eyes and addressed the group coldly, "This is our new member, Shinnō."

Bab 133: Chapter 133: The Akatsuki's New Member

"Shinnō?"

Kakuzu looked at the newcomer with some surprise. Shinnō was known for his exceptional medical skills and had a good reputation in both the underworld and legitimate circles. It was unexpected to see him being recruited into the Akatsuki.

"I am Shinnō, the newest member," Shinnō introduced himself to the Akatsuki members. As the leader of the Sky Country, he had been brought in by Kisame.

The other members glanced at him but remained silent. Then, Kakuzu turned to Tobi, sneering, "Tobi, I heard you used the Wood Release: Advent of a World of Flowering Trees again."

With the Mist Village spreading the news throughout the ninja world, the Akatsuki members had all heard about the battle outside the Sand Village through their information channels. According to the Mist Village, the one who used Wood Release: Advent of a World of Flowering Trees against the Akatsuki leader was the masked man of the Akatsuki.

While the Akatsuki members knew the true nature of the battle was their leader recruiting the Flying Thunder God user, it didn't stop Kakuzu from mocking Tobi.

Did I hear that right? This man can use Wood Release: Advent of a World of Flowering Trees? What kind of organization have I joined?

The other members knew Kakuzu was being sarcastic, but the newly joined Shinnō looked at Tobi in shock.

Hearing Kakuzu's taunt, veins bulged on Tobi's forehead as he glared at Kakuzu, seething with anger but staying silent. He hadn't expected that Flying Thunder God user to impersonate him and attack the Sand Village, once again placing the blame for using Wood Release: Advent of a World of Flowering Trees on him.

Kakuzu scanned the room and noticed the absence of Black Zetsu. "Where's Black Zetsu?" he asked, puzzled.

Tobi took a deep breath, suppressing his anger, and coldly replied, "Dead."

Dead?

The Akatsuki members looked at Tobi in shock. This was the first time they had experienced the death of an Akatsuki member, and it was someone with as strong an escape ability as Black Zetsu.

Itachi Uchiha narrowed his eyes, suspecting that Shishou was responsible.

"He was killed by the Flying Thunder God user," Tobi said coldly, "before the leader's fight with him."

Black Zetsu was dead, and White Zetsu was still recovering, having been planted on the Gedo Statue by Tobi.

The other Akatsuki members, except for Shinnō, understood. If it was that person, it made sense. They knew how powerful the Flying Thunder God user was.

After killing Black Zetsu, the fact that he could still fight the leader to a standstill was truly remarkable.

Itachi, while puzzled about Shishou's motives, was not surprised by the news.

Then, Pain, who had remained silent until now, addressed the group, "Due to the Mist Village's propaganda, the ninja world believes my battle with the Flying Thunder God user was an internal conflict between me and Tobi. As a result, the Five Great Shinobi Countries are preparing a joint investigation into the Akatsuki. For now, everyone must lay low and avoid conflicts. It's not yet time to declare war on the Five Great Shinobi Countries. We will resume our operations later."

Since the Five Great Shinobi Countries were unaware that Hanzō of the Salamander had been replaced by Pain, they had also sent an invitation to the Rain Village. Thus, Pain had learned about the joint investigation plan.

Pain continued, "My attempt to capture the Flying Thunder God user was interrupted by the Sand Village. Given how easily he can escape, we need a method to force him into a direct confrontation."

Tobi, with past experience, suggested, "We just need to find someone he cares about or a place he's hiding."

Pain looked at Tobi and said, "Then this task is yours."

Despite Black Zetsu's death, Pain knew Tobi had the ability to create more White Zetsu.

Tobi nodded in agreement. He was indeed the most suitable person for this task.

"Heh heh, if you need help, I'm available," Kisame offered ominously. Having been defeated by the Flying Thunder God user before, he was eager for revenge.

Moreover, with the implantation of the so-called Hashirama cells by Tobi, Kisame's strength had increased further, giving him confidence to confront the Flying Thunder God user again.

"I can help too, provided the body is mine after he's dead," Sasori added.

He was very interested in the Flying Thunder God user.

Itachi remained silent, his expression indifferent. Jūzō Biwa, not wanting to cause trouble, also kept quiet.

"Fine," Pain agreed to Sasori's condition.

In Shishou's secret lab...

"Tsk tsk, these black rods are indeed more effective than regular kunai," Shishou remarked, examining a black rod he had created using Yin-Yang Release. "They can disrupt the chakra of anyone they're inserted into and can also conduct chakra invisibly, making them untraceable even by the Sharingan. Truly impressive."

Shishou then approached a dead White Zetsu body and inserted black rods at various points on the body. He began experimenting with controlling the White Zetsu like Pain controlled the Six Paths.

Watching the White Zetsu twitch uncontrollably under his control, Shishou sighed in exasperation. It took him two hours to gain some proficiency, but achieving the seamless control Pain had over the Six Paths would require much more time.

This led Shishou to temporarily abandon the idea of creating his own Six Paths of Pain.

"I need to find Uchiha Madara's body sometime," he mused. "Hopefully, there are methods to quickly awaken the Rinnegan and scrolls on using Yin-Yang Release in his tomb. Of course, if devouring Madara's body grants me the Six Paths power directly, that would be even better."

With that, Shishou left his lab.

In Konoha...

Shishou appeared at Tsunade's house, finding Shizune diligently studying medical ninjutsu. He smiled and cleared his throat.

"Shizune, where's Tsunade?"

Startled, Shizune turned and glared at Shishou. "Tsunade-sama went to Shikkotsu Forest."

Shikkotsu Forest? Is she planning to learn Sage Mode?

Shishou pondered this information. Then, his face transformed into Tsunade's likeness. Smiling mischievously at Shizune, he said, "Shizune, let's start learning Sage Mode now."

Shizune's face turned bright red, remembering her previous experience with him.
