Accounting was part of her trade so Artie had the basic know-how. Then again, it didn't even need her basic know-how to see that something was wrong. The files given to her by Miel were from multiple sources: the official records, the reports of the tax collector, the reports of the bank, and the receipts of the castle. Since Miel included the records of the days when the bank actually received the gold deposited, she cross-checked it as well.
Even though it was easy to just assume that everything was correct, Artie realized that she couldn't find the entry for some amounts. Moreover, when she checked the records of the castle's receipts, the inventory didn't jive. She then took note of the families whose payments were lacking. Everything that needed to be recorded was done, and her brows actually frowned.
