Sam's POV
I couldn't shake the feeling that the threads of the past were closing in. The killers who destroyed my parents weren't just distant ghosts anymore; they were here, moving closer. But why would they be after Bella? That's the question that haunted me. She had nothing to do with their plans, and yet she seemed to be caught in the crossfire.
As I stepped into the car, my thoughts churned. Jacob was already behind the wheel, waiting for instructions.
"Jacob," I said, my voice steady despite the storm brewing inside me, "what did you find out about the car that followed you and Bella yesterday?"
Jacob glanced at me through the rearview mirror, his expression apologetic. "I tried, sir, but we couldn't get a clear look at the driver. The car's plates were fake. Whoever it was knew how to cover their tracks."
My jaw tightened, frustration boiling beneath the surface. "And the man Bella saw in her apartment building?"
