Bab 207: The last spell

Cael pulled his lance back and tried to strike the pulsing orb, but the force of magic emanating from it threw back his attack and shredded his lance into a cloud of pink mist.

He grit his teeth, flapping his wings with all the might of his will and mana, just to stay near this thing. It wasn't the Starspawn anymore, but the ultimate manifestation of its desire to destroy Cael and this city at any cost.

There was no arguing with it, no pleading. There was no way any spell Cael could make would do more than weaken the imminent explosion.

His mind worked on overdrive, seeking solutions. His memories flashed back to when Cael consumed the blood and power of a mad swamp dragon queen.

'System, can you absorb this power? It has the same origin as you!'

'It would be possible if the energy was restructured first. In its current state, its absorption will destroy us both, Cael.'
