Basara looked at the system window with an expression of doubt while he pondered aloud:
"I know I wanted something like a video game, but this is too similar, isn't it?"
That window was so big, with so many numbers, that he felt a little lost. Not exactly a geeky kid, Basara didn't know much about game systems, but he thought he knew the basics. He knew, for example, that Dexterity and Agility were different, contrary to what many people thought.
'However, there's no way for me to level up and improve my attributes like in a game... I believe this should be done normally through training, unless I create a skill for it. Anyway, getting this skill cost me 100 Naughty Points, which were expensive for me, but I think it will be an exceptional skill in the short and long term. Now, I only have 35 Naughty Points left. I still think it would be great if I had a skill that would help me get through more exciting events. What can I create?'
Basara pondered what would be fair and ethical when creating skills to facilitate interactions with girls. He didn't think it would be right to create something that would force their attraction dishonestly. However, he wondered if he could increase his chances in a less direct way.
As he reflected, he remembered what had happened to Moka Akashiya earlier that day.
"Getting stuck in that place was a tremendous stroke of... luck." As he uttered the last word, a snap appeared in his mind. "That's it! Luck is the answer! System, is it possible for me to create a skill that gives me better luck with girls for only 35 Naughty Points?"
[Luck is a relative thing. What do you define as luck?]
Basara put a hand to his chin and defined: "An order of factors that result in something positive for a person."
[You want a skill that changes the probability of the surrounding events in your favor?]
"Exactly."
[This action will cost 10000 Naughty Points. Do you want to complete this action? YES/NO.]
He was stunned by the absurd amount of points required. However, upon further thought, Basara realized that a skill that controlled luck in all aspects would indeed have a high value. He needed to limit its range.
"Okay, system. I can't afford a skill that involves my luck in relation to all the things around me, but if it's in relation to just one type of living being, the cost of that can drop dramatically, right?"
[If the skill involves only one type of living being, the cost of creating it will be considerably lower. The system will adjust the parameters to generate a new skill based on your specifications].
Basara stared at the glowing window in front of him and asked: "How much cheaper would it be if this ability only applied to the surrounding humans? No. Even better. I want it to apply only to girls of any kind. How much would the cost be reduced?"
[Considering part of the first request and your last request, creating such a skill will cost 30 Naughty Points. Do you want to complete this action? YES/NO.]
"Being proportional? What do you mean? Wait, system, can I see which skill you want to create?" Basara asked.
[Obviously.]
[Creating a provisional name... Creating a description... Creating parameters.]
[Skill: Luck in Love
Description: This skill increases your chances of favorable interactions with human and non-human girls, slightly adjusting the odds in your favor. It doesn't guarantee immediate results, but it can create situations that can help you.
Creation Cost: 30 Naughty Points].
"I thought I was bad at coming up with names, but this name sounds a bit... cheesy." Basara admitted, but it seemed to be the skill he was looking for: a subtle aid to creating opportunities.
He reached out to the icon that said [YES], and soon the system confirmed it:
[Luck in Love skill successfully created].
[You did not create the name of this skill. Do you want to change it?]
"No, it's fine. With such a literal name, it's not too different from the name I'd give to a skill like this." Basara waved his right hand in front of his face, denying it.
Seeing his Naughty Points reduced to just 5, Basara sighed, but was satisfied with his new skill. He closed the system window with a gesture and watched the kitchen return to its normal state.
"Well, I think I've made enough progress for one day. It's time for bed."
He then went up to the second floor of his house and pushed open the bedroom door. The room was tidy, with the bed against the wall near the window, the closet door closed, and a small table next to it where he usually left his belongings. As he walked over to the bed, something else caught his eye: a small sheet of paper was carefully placed on the pillow.
Curious, Basara took the paper and unfolded it, immediately recognizing his father's rather clumsy handwriting.
[Hello, Basara, how was your first day at school?
I'm sorry I wasn't there when I brought you to this town. I know that maybe living in a big city like this is too much for you to adapt to easily, but I believe you'll manage.
Seeing how bewildered you were this morning, I want to remind you that you still haven't bought the materials you need for several of your classes at the new school. The list is in the drawer of the kitchen tool cupboard, and you should buy them tomorrow before you go to school. The stores in the center opening at eight o'clock and your first lesson is at nine, so you'll need to be quick.
Anyway, you don't have to answer this letter, but I'll send you more of them to find out how things are going out there, and you don't have to avoid sending me letters either.
Stay out of trouble, Basara. If you bring girls to our house, remember that under no circumstances should they use my room, but the rest of the house is free HEHE!
See you soon. — Dad]
Basara let out a light laugh, his face a little flushed. "You'd think I'd bring girls home... It was you who did it the other time, Dad, inviting two strange girls to live with us with the excuse that they'd be my sisters."
Basara put the note in the drawer next to the bed and then threw himself on the mattress, ending his first day in this crazy world.
