"Amaya!" Mr. Lyle reached out both hands, warmly embracing Oliver Nelson. "No matter how much I invited you, you never showed up, but now you're actually attending such an inconsequential party. I'm quite jealous."

Oliver patted Mr. Lyle's shoulder lightly, his tone teasing: "There's nothing for Mr. Lyle to be jealous of."

Mr. Lyle laughed: "Come on, do you know how many people I sent out today just to catch you here?"

Oliver hooked up the corner of his lip: "Doing this is hardly different from issuing a warrant on me."

Mr. Lyle rested his hand on Oliver's arm: "Knowing you were back but not being able to see you, I was just short of issuing a city-wide search for you."

The two chatted and laughed together.

Their relationship appeared as close as old friends who had known each other for many years.
