Alonso parked the car sideways in front of the mansion's door, slammed the driver's door shut, and walked away without saying a word to Natalie. He climbed up the stairs and disappeared into the mansion leaving the door ajar as if expecting her to obediently follow like a good little wife.
Does he know me at all? Her lips quivered. Did I trust him too quickly?
Worn out from their argument and dreading the follow up discussion, she reluctantly stepped out of the car. Her heels sank into the pebbled ground as she wandered aimlessly in the garden. After a while, even walking lost its appeal so she came to a stop and looked up at the starry sky.
Dad…I miss you so much.
Natalie let the tears flow. She figured marrying Alonso would be the ticket to the end of her sorrows, but with the south turn that their relationship took tonight, this new chapter in her life might be a whole new level of loneliness.
