Bab 2: New Beginnings
He was never mean to me, and he never blamed me for anything, but he was almost like a living doll. A shallow shell of who he used to be. Over the years, his grief wore away at his health. The sicker and weaker he got, the more urgent he became in teaching me everything he knew.
I took everything he said to heart and did everything he said. What we discovered was amazing. I didn't need spells or magic circles. I had a natural talent for magic, and it was like second nature to me. With the flick of my wrist or just the thought, I was able to create.
For a while, I thought my grandfather was getting better. A light in his eyes that had long been gone was back and burning brighter than ever. I used my magic to help me absorb the knowledge he gave me and with incredible speed, I learned everything.
When the magic council found out about my powers, they came to visit. My Grandfather was friends with one of the oldest members. Vanir marveled at my magic and the endless possibilities.
Vanir began pulling everything he could use to help me grow in secret before becoming old enough to join the council. He would come over with lots of old books and scrolls each time. He would giggle in delight when he'd see how I was already done with his previous findings.
This went on for three years. I had already secretly helped him solve a number of issues and when my grandfather passed away, he remained by my side. Every year, the grey in his hair and bread becomes greater in numbers.
The year my grandfather passed was hard on me and I stayed to myself for a while. Slowly, with Aiya's help, I was able to smile and laugh again. I inherited everything that belonged to my grandfather and those before him.
The following two years were dedicated to me working on secret missions and becoming stronger. I was now twenty and old enough to join the council. Tonight, was the night of acceptance. A night of celebration and joy. I just wish my grandfather was here to see it.
No, I wish my parents and Grandfather were here. Then it would be perfect. I shake away the dark thoughts as Aiya hands me a drink. I take the glass with a smile as she asks, "Are you nervous?" I give her a knowing smile as I shake my head no.
I've been before the members of the council many times. This is all for show. I take a small sip but when the feeling of unease comes back, I lower the glass. Aiya is speaking to some of the other girls as I look around the grand room.
When my eyes meet a pair of ice-blue eyes, I pause. His old eyes crinkle up in a smile as he winks at me and lifts his drink up. I smirk at Vanir and raise my glass as well. I put it to my lips, but I don't drink.
I look at the seemingly harmless liquid but, for some reason, I felt like I shouldn't drink it. While everyone was busy chatting, I use my magic to get rid of most of the drink as I act like I'm drinking it. Odd, extremely odd.
As I lower the glass, Aiya looks over and laughs before saying "You should slow down tiger. You won't make it to the end of the night if you keep drinking like that." I smirk and flick my wrist. The glass disappears as I say "I will stop with just that drink. It didn't taste very good anyway."
She giggles and nods in agreement before saying "Looks like someone has his eyes on you." As I see her look over my shoulder, I turn to find a pair of dark blue eyes watching me. He gives me a dark grin and slightly nods his head as our eyes meet.
Dade. He's hands down one of the strongest male warlocks we have but he's also super creepy. To say the guy was a snake would be a compliment. His magic always bit at my skin in all the wrong ways, and I couldn't put my finger on it but... let's just say he'd make a perfect serial killer.
Those are the vibes I get from Dade and his dark magic. I nod back and turn back around with a look of displeasure on my face. Aiya suddenly says "Oh! I almost forgot! I have a surprise for you, Lyra!" My eyebrows raise in surprise as I smile and say, "I told you not to get me anything."
She waves me off and pulls my arm saying, "I know but this is a must." I giggle and allow her to pull me to the long hallway. She places her hand on the wall and makes it open. We step into a different hall, and she takes my hand.
As she pulls me, she looks back with a bright smile and says "You are going to love it. It's one of a kind and just for you!" I return her smile, but it quickly fades. Aiya has already turned away and is practically skipping as the ominous feeling suddenly feels as if it's multiplied by ten.
My eyes begin to search the hallway for any signs of danger, but I don't see or hear anyone but us. She comes to a stop in front of a door and says, "Don't be too surprised, okay?" I look into her eyes and blink. Her blonde curly hair was the exact opposite of my raven black straight hair.
My bright grey eyes look into her baby blue eyes as she smiles at me. She turns her head and opens the door. She quickly walks in and pulls me in with her. The force she uses is great and I find myself stumbling a few feet past her as she releases my hand.
