That was not real, Giovanni tried to convince himself.

That familiar voice pierced through all the other harsh whispers of the spirits trapped between life and death, sending a chill down his spine. His entire body tensed and hesitantly, he turned around to face the source of the voice, his heart pounding in his chest. His heart picked up pace in his thoracic cavity, the sound echoing through the silence that blanketed his entire mind. All train of thought left him as he slowly turned his entire body, his eyes searching for her.

There she stood, her auburn hair matted with blood. Her grey eyes were wide with desperation as she looked around. What struck him most were the jagged shards of glass protruding from her skin, the broken bones that twisted her limbs at unnatural angles and the crimson rivers that cascaded down her lifeless form.

"Has anyone seen my son?" she pleaded, her voice a haunting echo that reverberated through the darkness.
