Keep in mind that around ten people refers to ten firing simultaneously, not that there are only ten enemies.

The gunfire surged intermittently but the direction remained largely unchanged, concentrated on the eastern side of the perimeter wall, while the factory gate faced west. In other words, the enemies did not come from the main entrance but approached from the wasteland on the east side of the factory.

However, the wasteland to the east was flat, with only some low shrubs providing concealment, and no substantial cover available. It was unclear which they were underestimating by making such an obvious feint and harassment—it seemed utterly useless.
