Lab Rat

The fluorescent lights glared down mercilessly as my eyelids fluttered open, a harsh assault on my senses. Disoriented, I struggled against the cold, unyielding restraints that held me firmly in place, the metal chafing against my skin and sending involuntary shivers down my spine.

Each laboured breath was a rasp in the deafening silence, a stark reminder of my helpless predicament. Where was I? How had I ended up here, trapped in this sterile, clinical chamber like a caged animal?

Fragmented memories flickered in the recesses of my mind, a disjointed film reel that clashed with my sense of self. I was a he – or had been—before waking up in this nightmare. The body I now inhabited was foreign, yet undeniably my own, a vessel for abilities that defied all logic and science.

The last thing I remember is that, being a loner in my previous life, I had everything—proper educational qualifications, family, etc.—and I accomplished a proper life, but finally I passed away being run over by a truck.

As I recalled everything, I felt a little uncomfortable with my body. I found that I was not him anymore. I can see my snow white skin and black hair extending on my side. Other than that, I cannot move a bit as I am restrained. Many syringes, wires, and pipes are attached to me. One leading glucose to my body, some wire to detect my condition, and even some pies attached to my excretory organ. I am literally cuffed with many steel objects on my wrist, ankles, waist, and even neck.

Day 7

"Subject X-98," a voice murmured, breaking the eerie silence. I turned my head to see a group of lab-coated figures observing me with clinical detachment, their expressions unreadable. "The subject's regenerative abilities are already remarkable. We'll need to push the boundaries to truly understand the extent of their potential."

My heart sank as they began to prepare their instruments, a sinking feeling of dread settling in the pit of my stomach. This was no sanctuary for the gifted; it was a nightmare, a twisted laboratory where I was nothing more than a guinea pig to be dissected and examined.

Jolts of electricity seared through my body, eliciting a guttural scream that echoed against the sterile walls. The stench of charred flesh stung my nostrils, and I fought the overwhelming urge to vomit as the scientists scribbled furiously on their clipboards.

"Fascinating," one of them murmured, adjusting the dials on the machine. "The subject's regenerative abilities seem to be accelerating with each trial."

"We're making significant progress," one of the scientists remarked, his eyes gleaming with a disturbing enthusiasm. "The subject's regenerative capabilities are off the charts. If we can isolate the key factors, the implications for genetic engineering are-"

"Endless, I know." The other scientist adjusted his glasses, a gleam of avarice in his eyes. "Just imagine the possibilities. Enhanced strength, heightened senses, and the ability to rapidly adapt to any environment or injury. We could create an unstoppable army of super-soldiers."

The scientists turned their gaze towards the one-way mirror, where the imposing figure of Norman Osborn stood observing the proceedings. A sinister smile crept across Osborn's face as he listened to the scientists' description of the subject's abilities.

"Remarkable," Osborn murmured, his voice laced with a mixture of fascination and greed. "If you can successfully harness and replicate these powers, the applications for Oscorp will be truly revolutionary. I want this subject stabilised and ready for the next phase of testing as soon as possible."

The scientists nodded eagerly, their expressions betraying a sense of both pride and trepidation. They knew the risks of their work, but the allure of Osborn's backing and the potential rewards were simply too tempting to ignore.

"We'll start increasing the intensity of the procedures immediately," one of the scientists replied, a tremor of excitement in his voice. "With your permission, we'd like to move forward with the integration of the adaptive nanites. That should help us gain better control over the subject's regenerative abilities."

Osborn's gaze narrowed, his eyes gleaming with a predatory intensity. "Do it. I want this subject ready for field testing within the next sixty days. The future of Oscorp depends on your success."

The scientists swallowed nervously, the weight of Osborn's expectations bearing down on them. But they knew better than to question the ruthless businessman's demands. With renewed vigour, they turned their attention back to the subject, their hands already reaching for the tools that would shape the future of their twisted experiments.

Days turned into weeks, and still, the experiments continued without respite. Each day brought new trials and new horrors to endure as my body was subjected to the relentless onslaught of the scientists' twisted curiosity.

And yet, amidst the torment, there were moments of hesitation and fleeting glimpses of sympathy that flickered in the eyes of the researchers. They were not monsters, I realised, but mere cogs in the machine of Osborn's ambition, trapped in a cycle of servitude from which there was no escape.

"Test Subject X-98," one of the researchers murmured, his voice tinged with regret. "I'm sorry. We never wanted things to turn out like this."

I met his gaze with a steely resolve, my jaw clenched in defiance. "Save your apologies," I rasped, my voice hoarse from the countless screams. "You made your choice the moment you signed on to this project. Now you have to live with the consequences."

The researcher bowed his head, a silent acknowledgment of the truth in my words. And with that, the experiments continued, each day blurring into the next as my body was pushed to the brink of its limits.

But even as the scientists continued their relentless pursuit of knowledge, I could feel a shift within me—a growing power that threatened to burst free from the confines of my captivity. The researchers, sensing the change, became increasingly frantic in their efforts to contain me, their voices laced with a mixture of fear and desperation.

"We're losing control!" One of them shouted, his eyes wild with panic. "The subject's regenerative abilities have reached a critical threshold. If we don't intervene immediately, we could lose everything we've worked for!"

They halted the experiment, giving me enough space to breathe properly. They all left me again in the dark room. I heard someone muttering before going out about 2nd awakening. I just knew vague details, according to the Marvel fandom. An example of a second awakening is Emma Frost, who has two mutant abilities. Interesting. I have to figure out my second ability before anyone else can take any precautions against me.

I tried again and again to activate the second ability. But as I have no clue about it, I am still not able to understand it. As the day went by, I figured something out, like I could be free of physical restraint with my ability. But I have to wait for the proper opportunity to run away.

Day 189

With a surge of willpower, I activated my second gene ability, which I think is the same as Kitty (X-men). I have the ability to phase through physical objects. I don't know how, but I was still able to master my ability as fast as I could. I started with phasing through restraint and standing up, but I felt weakness through my body. As I have not walked or stood for many days, I feel numb in my legs. I kept crawling, and with the closing distance to another wall, I again phased to the other side.

As I phased through the physical walls, I experienced a sensation unlike anything I had ever felt before—a glitch in reality itself, as if the very fabric of space and time were bending to my will. Unaware of the extent of my powers, I pressed on, driven by a primal instinct to flee from my captors at all costs.

But as I reached the limit of my ability, I found myself in a room filled with glass enclosures, each housing experimented spiders of various sizes and colors. Recalling the tales of Spider-Man and Peter Parker, I instinctively knew to stay away from these creatures, understanding the potential danger they posed. I am not part of the Parker family, nor do I want to handle the responsibility of being stuck here as a lab rat.

Yet unknown to me, a black-blue spider had already climbed onto my shoulder. As I ran through the hallways, desperately seeking an escape route, I found myself cornered in a dead end, surrounded by Oscorp's minions.

In that moment of desperation, I felt a sharp pain in my neck. As the venom seeped into my bloodstream, I felt its effects pulsating through my body like electric shocks. My muscles tensed, and my vision blurred as the poison began to take hold. Panic surged within me, but alongside it was a flicker of something else—a latent power awakening deep within.

With every heartbeat, the world around me seemed to warp and distort, as if reality itself were bending to my will. Colours bled into one another, and the air shimmered with an otherworldly energy. It was as if I had tapped into a dimension beyond comprehension, where the laws of physics held no sway.

But amidst the confusion and fear, a primal instinct took over—an instinct to survive at any cost. With a surge of determination, I focused my mind, channelling the strange power coursing through me. And then, as if by sheer force of will, I felt my body begin to glitch and distort, phasing in and out of existence like a ghost in the machine.

The minions of Oscorp recoiled in shock and horror as I flickered before them, their weapons passing harmlessly through my insubstantial form. And in that moment of clarity, I knew that I had tapped into something beyond my understanding—a power that would forever alter the course of my destiny.

With a final burst of effort, I willed myself to safety, phasing through the walls and barriers that had once imprisoned me. And as I vanished into the night, leaving behind a trail of bewildered adversaries, I knew that my journey was only just beginning. For I was no longer just a captive of fate—I was a harbinger of change, a being forged in the crucible of uncertainty, and the world would never be the same again.

As I blanked out because of overdriving forces on my body, everyone noticed that my body was glitching severely and finally disappeared from the dimension itself, as if I never existed there.
