As soon as Varian entered his room and laid on his bed he fell asleep, plunging into dreamland immediately. However instead of having a peaceful dream he was in an isolated place (not that he knows that yet) surrounded by neverending white.
*Tap* *Tap*
The sound of footsteps drew his attention and he turned to the source of the sound to see a humanoid figure walking towards him with steady steps. Aside form it's tall figure and spiraling eyes no other feature was visible.
It was shrouded in an erratic darkness akin to burning flames. It's height was exactly that of Varian's being 6'3, it's build was also exactly the same as Varian's.
Stopping five feet away from Varian, the figure just stared at Varian. Varian stares back with many questions floating around in his head, the main one being what or who is standing infront of him. Although he had a few guesses, he deduced that it was a little too early for the scenarios he thought about to happen yet.
"..."
"..."
After a minute of staring at each other, the figure momentarily disappeared from Varian's sight, only to appear in front of him in the next instant with a punch already launched towards his face.
"!!"
Of course, before the punch connected it was pushed away by a palm followed by a counter punch which was also deflected in a similar manner.
Seeing that both their attacks were shrugged off, they immediately made a little distance between themselves, only to rush at each other the next moment while preparing their next action.
Varian sent out a kick with his left foot that if it were a normal human infront of him, it would be aimed directly for the liver.
On the other side, the figure twisted it's waist to dodge the incoming attack while simultaneously punching towards Varian's left chest.
*BANG*
The punch connected and sent Varian flying a couple meters backwards. Luckily, he realized that due to his awkward positioning caused by his previous attack, he wouldn't be able to dodge or parry the attack. As such he jumped back as soon as the punch made contact, reducing damage while also making distance.
[...This feeling...]
Varian suddenly felt a strange sensation when fighting against this figure infront. It was a peculiar feeling of seeing someone do your movements with your own habits.
Without thinking about it too much he ran towards the silhouette. He didn't wait to reach directly infront of it to start his attacks, he jumped into the air and spun around generating momentum until he was infront of the silhouette, he spun his body and kicked horizontally towards the figures face.
When the attack was inches away from hitting the figures face, it was blocked by both it's hands, effectively stopping the attack, however Varian's next move with incredible dexterity and body control, he used the foot that was blocked and directly pulled it back up and dropped it on top of the figures head.
This caused the flowing darkness to spread a little bit, exposing some strands of silky white hair before being covered again.
In less than ten seconds, the figure had already made some distance between itself and Varian, the shock from the initial hit had already been replaced with a fierce look in it's eyes. This made Varian smile a little in excitement. To him,, it didn't matter if it was a dream or reality at this moment. The excitement of fighting someone equal to yourself is and unexplainable feeling.
For the next couple of minutes, Varian and the figure continued to trade blows, each one becoming more and more complex and refined as time passed. It then came to the point where they couldn't benefit from each other and once again started trading blows.
However it was at this time that the familiar feeling that Varian had suddenly resurfaced. It was as if he was fighting an exact copy of himself. The feeling was akin to looking into a mirror and seeing a reflection of yourself. Each fighting habit, movement, calculation of the opponents moves... a very strange and somewhat uncomfortable feeling.
Suddenly the figure stopped moving and the flame-like darkness that surrounded it started to dwindle bit by bit. From head to toe, the figure gradually began to gain some features. First came a silky white head of hair that flowed down to almost shoulder length.
Then the most surprising part, it's face. More specifically Varian's current face, which were at this moment only a notch above model level but still inferior to some cultivators he'd seen.
"???"
Varian was visibly confused. He was more than sure that he had no other siblings other than his older sister, yet here was someone who was the spitting image of himself standing right infront of him.
"You look surprised." The figure spoke in an indifferent voice similar to that of Varian's.
"..."
The figure just stood there while the flame - like darkness gradually began to recede until his lower abdomen, stopping just above his pelvic area.
"Who are you?" Varian finally asked, though his tone was indifferent with a hint of coldness.
"That's not very nice is it? I'm sure that your eyes work just fine to see who I am." The figure replied with a little scoff.
" That's right, the better question is, what are you? Sure you have my face and body, however 'you' are not 'me'." Varian shot back. He was naturally curious as to where 'it' came from.
" Tch, this bastard... You're right, but you're also wrong. Hehehe, you see, I am 'You' Varian." The man spoke with a calm look on his face.
Varian was sure now. He had a thought that this man might be his heart demon. However his cultivation was not high enough to produce such a thing at the moment.
"So... you're telling me that 'you' are 'me'? On what basis? The only similarities we share are facial features and the way we fight. So it's hard to believe that you are me on this basis alone." Varian spoke.
"Sure that alone couldn't have made 'me' into 'you'. However are you sure those are the only similarities we share? If so, then you probably need to get your eyes checked." The man said with a bland look on his face.
" What are you talking about? There are no other feature that make you into me." He was really not seeing any other similarities between them.
" Heterochromia."
"!!!" Varian was shocked, not because of what was said, but because it took him so long to notice the partial sign of heterochromia in the man's right iris. Similar to his, where only the top half of his iris is affected. The top half being greyish-silver while the under half was as black as ink.
All these things led to the realization that he might actually be him.
