Bab 6: Noble Invantation

After exiting the chamber of stars, Arthur opened his eyes as if he had just woken from a deep sleep. Beside him, a maid named Jennie was monitoring him with utmost caution.

"Young Master," Jennie exclaimed, "How are you? Do you feel better? Do you feel sick?"

Arthur was bombarded with questions the moment he regained consciousness. Seeing his red-haired servant panicked, Arthur quickly reassured her and calmed the situation down. "I'm fine, Jennie. No need to worry."

"She must have been quite close to the previous owner of this body if she can express herself like this," Arthur thought to himself. The previous Arthur didn't like to communicate with other people very much, and considering his status, it was indeed hard to make friends. Arthur wondered about the life he had stepped into and the relationships he would need to navigate in this new existence.

"Master, the countess requested you to dinner with her if your condition is alright," Jennie said.

Arthur was kind of nervous to have a proper chat with his mother for the first time but quickly composed himself. "If this is enough to get on my nerves, how can I act like a god shortly? She is a kind and benevolent mother; surely she wouldn't scold me if I was under the weather." He tried to draw strength from the memories he had of the previous Arthur's interactions with his mother.

As Arthur walked towards the dining room, he couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. It was strange to be stepping into a life that wasn't originally his, but he knew that he had to make the best of it. The Pendragon family name carried significant weight, and he had a legacy to uphold. He reminded himself of the responsibilities that came with his new identity and the expectations that were now placed upon him.

Entering the grand dining room, Arthur was greeted by the sight of his mother, Countess Sofia, seated at the head of a long, elegantly set table. The room was adorned with intricate tapestries depicting the history of the Pendragon family, and the air was filled with the mouth-watering aroma of a well-prepared feast. The grandeur of the room was both intimidating and awe-inspiring, reminding Arthur of the stature of the family he now represented.

"Arthur, my dear," Sofia greeted him warmly, rising from her seat to embrace him. "I'm so glad to see you up and about. How are you feeling?"

"I'm feeling much better, Mother. Thank you for your concern," Arthur replied, smiling as he took his seat beside her. He was struck by the warmth in her eyes and the genuine concern in her voice, feeling a pang of gratitude for this new family.

The meal began, and Arthur found himself relaxing in the presence of his mother. Sofia was a woman of grace and warmth, with a gentle smile that could put anyone at ease. She had a way of making Arthur feel like everything would be alright, despite the challenges that lay ahead. He appreciated her calm demeanor and the way she made the daunting world of nobility seem more manageable.

"Master, shall I serve the soup now?" Jennie asked, standing by with a tureen of steaming broth.

"Yes, please, Jennie," Sofia responded, and Jennie began to ladle the rich, fragrant soup into their bowls. Arthur watched as Jennie carefully served the soup, noting the way she seemed to care deeply for his well-being.

As they ate, Sofia brought up the upcoming dinner with Earl Hall. "Arthur, the Earl has extended an invitation for you to attend a dinner party at his estate. It will be your first official appearance at a high noble gathering."

Arthur nodded, feeling a mixture of excitement and apprehension. "I'm looking forward to it, Mother. Though I must admit, I'm a bit nervous." He felt the weight of this first public appearance and the potential scrutiny he would face.

Sofia reached out and placed a reassuring hand on his. "You have nothing to fear, my dear. You are a Pendragon. Hold your head high and do not let anyone disrespect you. Remember, your father and I are always here for you. If you encounter any problems, do not hesitate to come to us." Her words were a balm to his anxiety, reminding him of the strength and support his family offered.

Arthur smiled gratefully. "Thank you, Mother. I will do my best." He resolved to approach the dinner with confidence, relying on the guidance and wisdom of his parents.

As they continued their meal, Arthur decided to take the opportunity to learn more about the nobles he would soon be mingling with. "Mother, could you tell me more about the other nobles who will be attending the party? I'd like to be as prepared as possible."

Sofia's eyes sparkled with pride at his proactive approach. "Of course, Arthur. The Earl's parties are always well-attended by the most influential families. You'll meet the Duke of Ravenscroft, a powerful ally and a shrewd politician. His daughter, Lady Evelyn, is quite charming and well-respected in court."

Arthur listened intently, absorbing every detail. "What about the Viscount of Eldridge? I've heard his family has significant influence in the southern regions." He wanted to ensure he understood the dynamics and power structures within the nobility.

"Yes, the Viscount is a formidable figure. His family controls much of the trade routes in the south, and they are known for their wealth and strategic acumen. His son, Thomas, is around your age and quite the tactician," Sofia explained. Arthur made a mental note to be cautious around Thomas, recognizing the potential for both rivalry and alliance.

As the conversation continued, Arthur felt more at ease with the prospect of attending the party. The insights from his mother provided him with a clearer picture of the social landscape he would navigate. Sofia continued, detailing the various alliances, rivalries, and personalities he would encounter. Her thorough descriptions painted a vivid picture of the intricate web of relationships and power plays within the nobility.

"And don't forget Lady Beatrice of the House of Lancaster," Sofia added, her tone slightly more serious. "She is known for her sharp wit and influence. Many seek her favor, but she can be quite discerning." Arthur sensed the importance of winning Lady Beatrice's respect and the potential benefits it could bring.

Arthur nodded, filing away the information. "I understand, Mother. It seems there's much to learn." He felt the enormity of the task ahead but was determined to rise to the occasion.

Sofia smiled, her eyes full of pride and affection. "You are doing well, Arthur. Just remember to be yourself and uphold the values of our family. Confidence and integrity will always serve you well." Her encouragement bolstered his resolve, and he felt a renewed sense of purpose.

The conversation shifted to lighter topics as they finished their meal, and Arthur found himself more relaxed and ready for the challenges ahead. Sofia shared anecdotes from her own experiences at court, providing both amusement and valuable lessons. Her stories were filled with humor and wisdom, offering a glimpse into the life he was now a part of.

"Hehe, you will always be my baby," Sofia said teasingly as they finished their dessert. "I bet all the girls will be smitten by your looks when they see you." Arthur couldn't help but chuckle at her playful tone, feeling a warmth spread through him.

Arthur laughed, shaking his head. "Mother, you worry too much. I'm already an adult." He appreciated her affectionate teasing, feeling a sense of normalcy and connection.

Sofia's laughter was light and musical. "An adult you may be, but you'll always be my son. Now, make sure you rest well tonight. Tomorrow will be a big day." Her words carried both love and a gentle reminder of the importance of the days to come.

Arthur stood and leaned down to kiss his mother on the cheek. "Thank you for everything, Mother. I will make you proud." He felt a deep sense of gratitude for her unwavering support and the bond they shared.

As he left the dining room, Arthur couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. The anticipation of the upcoming dinner with Earl Hall loomed large in his mind, but he also felt a growing confidence. With his mother's guidance and the support of his family, he knew he could face whatever challenges lay ahead. The weight of his new identity and the legacy of the Pendragon family pressed upon him, but he was ready to embrace his destiny.
