Bab 449: Chapter 450: The Tool of the Sea God's Cult

Since successfully securing support from the Storm Church, the rest of the matters became much easier to handle.

Lynn soon bid farewell to Archbishop Jahn Kottman, and sent cattleya and Frank back to the inn. He then took Klein and Danitz to visit the Resistance located in the outskirts of Bayam.

The visit went smoothly without any surprises. After all, Lynn wasn't going to bluntly tell the rebels, "The god you worship is going to fall. Follow us instead." Instead, he played it safe, pushing Danitz to the forefront, pretending that he and Klein were merely tagging along to help Danitz purchase items from the Resistance. Unfortunately, Lynn did not find the bone sword mentioned in the original work, the one related to Kalvetua, among the things the rebels displayed.

'As expected, that item must have been something Kalvetua temporarily crafted after Book of Calamity was taken...' Lynn thought to himself, but he didn't feel much regret. Instead, he selected a few other items from the Resistance's assortment.

These items were also related to Kalvetua, likely being temporary charms or Beyonder weapons created after receiving some kind of so-called "blessing."

Normally, no one could use such items to reverse-locate Kalvetua's position unless they were a high-sequence Beyonder of the Door Pathway. However, as is widely known, in the present era, high-sequence Beyonders of the Door Pathway are nearly extinct, with only a handful of middle-sequence individuals remaining.

Moreover, if an ordinary person tried using these items, which were tainted with the Sea God's aura, they might unconsciously become a follower of Kalvetua. That was probably why the rebels were selling these items in the first place.

But for Lynn, who had dealt with Bethel for years and had already deciphered various abilities of the Door Pathway, and now possessed time-traveling powers with epic enhancements, these items were nothing but live coordinates.

"You have a good eye," remarked the bald rebel, Kalat, as he saw the items Lynn had chosen.

"Thank you, I think so too," Lynn smiled as he expressed his gratitude. There was no sign in his demeanor that he was about to use those items to locate Kalvetua's leader and then eliminate them.

"Anything else you're interested in?" Kalat asked.

"No, I think these will be enough," Lynn smiled again, all the while observing the bald rebel leader.

This wasn't a character who didn't exist in the original work. In fact, after Kalvetua led the most devout and sinful followers of the Sea God's Cult to die together, Kalat naturally became one of the first individuals promoted by The Fool after he ascended.

It wasn't surprising. While Kalat wasn't the highest-ranking member of the original Sea God's Cult, after the High Priest died, he became one of the most influential remaining members. He was also one of the few intellectuals in the Sea God's Cult and the conscience of the group. He had consistently led the rebels in their fight against the colonizers and had opposed the church's primitive, bloody sacrifices, though he lacked the power to change them.

So, when The Fool took over under the name of the Sea God and issued a new set of commandments to restrain the members of the Sea God Church, Kalat was the first to respond enthusiastically.

'This is the future number one tool of the Sea God Church...' Lynn mused to himself. After confirming the price, he quickly paid and left with the confused Danitz and the clearly speculative Klein.

Only after they left did Kalat frown slightly. "Flames were afraid of those two," he muttered.

"I've never seen them on any bounty lists," commented Edmund, another rebel.

"They might be new faces from the mainland. Let's hope they won't become a problem for us…" Kalat sighed as he said this. "Life has been getting harder for everyone lately."

In recent years, with the Sea God becoming increasingly deranged and under pressure from the Storm Church, Loen's government, and other organizations, both the Sea God Church and its close allies, the Resistance, had been struggling more and more. The survival of their followers was becoming increasingly difficult.

Kalat could barely envision a future where victory was possible. Sometimes, he felt lost, unsure of how long the Sea God's Cult and the rebels could continue their fight.

Kalat sometimes wondered if his thoughts were unfaithful. But as someone who had been fortunate enough to receive a decent education, his rationality made it impossible for him to ignore the primitive and bloody practices of the Sea God's Cult.

Kalat knew that this couldn't last. No primitive and bloodthirsty church could ever grow or survive for long.

But he was powerless. He couldn't resist Kalvetua, nor could he change the will of the Sea God. In fact, it was his rejection of the bloody rituals that led to his exclusion from the core leadership of the Sea God's Cult, resulting in his assignment to lead the rebels. However, in truth, this was a relief to Kalat.

He'd much rather lead the fight against the colonizers who had occupied their homeland than preside over the church's grotesque sacrificial ceremonies.

"Lord..." Kalat glanced in the direction of the Sea God Church headquarters and sighed deeply but said nothing more.

...

While the bald rebel Kalat was feeling powerless about the future of the Resistance, Lynn, on the other hand, brought Klein and Danitz back to the location where they had previously contacted the Lord of Storms.

"You're not going to use those items to locate Kalvetua's ruins, are you?" Danitz asked, looking at the charms and Beyonder weapons in Lynn's hands.

"Why not?" Lynn placed the items one by one on the ground and looked at Danitz with a smile. "Could you keep watch at the door, Danitz?"

Danitz's eager expression faltered. He glanced at the items on the ground, then reluctantly nodded. "Got it."

He understood that this method of casually using items to locate Kalvetua's position probably involved some of Lynn's secrets, so it was natural that he wouldn't be allowed to watch.

'However, even if you let me watch, I wouldn't dare to...' Standing at the door, Danitz muttered to himself, having no intention of peeking at whatever was happening in the yard.

After all, knowing too much could be dangerous. Danitz wanted to live a few more years.

Once Danitz left, Lynn waved Klein over. "Come closer. I'll explain this little trick for locating people."
