Bab 3: Quick Apprehension test
As Hiro opened the door and stepped inside the classroom, he saw about four seats are occupied, An unruly looking boy with spiky ash-blond hair who was keeping his legs on the desk in front of him, a pink-haired girl, a blonde-haired boy with a tail, and a boy with the head of a blackbird.
As they stared at him, he went and sat his allotted seat number 10. A while later, one by one, students began to fill in. While the rest began to converse with each other, Hiro stayed silent sitting at the back row as the right side of him, seat no.5 is empty, the left side of him, seat no.15 was occupied by Shoto who refused to respond his greeting and looked at him with resentment for a second before turning his face away. As for the front seat of him, no.8 was occupied by a timid looking muscular boy with rock head.
Just then, Hiro saw a glasses-wearing boy started to argue with the spiky-haired student for putting his legs on the desk and then the last two arrived. The glasses boy then introduced himself as Tenya Iida and started to talk with them which was interrupted by a worn-out man who entered the class with a sleeping bag over him.
"Uh, so, I'm your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. Nice to meet you," He looked at everyone and introduced himself disinterestedly. As the students got surprised to hear that he's their homeroom teacher, Shota further continued, "so, quickly change your clothes into these and meet me at P.E. ground in 5 minutes."
After everyone changed into P.E. clothes and gathered at the P.E. ground, Aizawa spoke, "so, you all going to participate in this Quick Apprehension test which you'll be using your Quirks."
"Eh? Sensei, what about introductions? Orientation? Entrance ceremony?" as Uraraka asked him, he snapped at her, "if you are going to be a hero, you don't have time for those normal high school events. Now, I'll evaluate your abilities based on eight fitness tests."
Then someone complained, "isn't it too much to evaluate us right on the first day?"
Aizawa replied, "this is U.A. It's different from other schools. Here, we, teachers aren't restricted by rules on what we teach. Even the principal doesn't have a say on how we run our classes. These eight tests aren't that difficult. The same ones you are doing at your juniors schools. The only difference is that you will use your Quirk. Understood?"
As everyone nodded, Aizawa said, "you over there, Bakugo, what was your best result in softball throw in your junior school?"
"66 meters," replied the spiky-haired kid. Aizawa then said, "step forward and throw the softball again using your Quirk while standing in that circle.
As Bakugo was given the softball, he threw it using his Explosive Quirk and the result shown more than 700m on Shoto's device. "See, this is the difference when you use your Quirk. More than Ten-fold difference."
While everyone got excited, the tests began with a 50-meter dash. Aizawa then started calling the names he paired up. "Now, first, Tenya Iida, Tsuyu Asui."
Hiro saw the glasses-wearing boy and short girl whose appearance reminded him of a frog when he saw her very wide mouth, large oval eyes, etc...
"On your mark... get set... " as soon he whistled, Iida ran fast while activating his Quirk, Engine, that was on his legs which gives him mobility. As he finished the race in 3 seconds, Asui hopped like a frog and finished it in 5.5 seconds.
One pair after another finished their races, Aizawa began to record their timings, After Midoriya and Bakugo's race is completed, Aizawa then called, "now, Todoroki and Jiro, your turn." As Shoto stepped forward, Aizawa stopped him, "not you, the other one. You, Hiroto Todoroki, come forward."
Iida then mumbled, "Hiroto Todoroki? The one who topped the written and practical test?"
While the rest of the students were wondering about his surname, Bakugo looked at him seriously and thought, "this pale-skinned boy was the one who scored more than me?"
Hiroto and Jiro stepped forward and took their positions, Aizawa whistled. Immediately, a straight Ice road began to form as he began to slide and finished the race in 3.5 seconds making the rest nod as they thought, "so, his quirk is Ice."
After him, Aizawa called Shoto and Tokoyami who finished the race in 2.5 seconds and 5.5 seconds respectively. Everyone looked back and forth at Shoto and then Hiroto as they saw Shoto looked at him with a smirk after finishing the race exactly like how Hiro finished it.
At first, Hiro frowned after seeing Shoto trying to provoke him but then retained his calmness after remembering his mom's face.
After everyone is finished with the race, they saw the results on the scoreboard placed aside. Shoto is in the first place with 2.5 sec, Iida was second with 3 sec, Hiroto on 3rd with 3.5 sec, Bakugo on 4th with 4.1 sec and so on...
Then, Aizawa spoke, "ok, let's move on to the second test, Grip Strength." Mezo Shoji who has six arms that are attached by a web of skin beat everyone with 540kg strength. Meanwhile, Hiro comfortably sat at 3rd position again with 168kg which shocked everyone as no one ever imagined such a lean boy have such muscular strength. Shoto's face became dark as he was beaten by Hiro a few minutes later after he challenged him.
After that, a standing long jump test was conducted, few students like Bakugo, Yuga Aoyama, etc... cleared sandbox using their quirks, while many others including Midoriya, Shoto, etc... landed inside the sandbox as their Quirks aren't suitable for that task. Hiroto also wasn't able to clear it and landed almost at the edge without using Quirk. This time, none of them are surprised as he was tall and lean. He ought to be good at long jump.
After that, they started to do Repeated Side Steps in which Minoru Mineta greatly excelled as his Quirk, Pop off is extremely suitable for it. Meanwhile, as everyone started laughing and saying how fun the hero course is, where they can use their Quirks all the time, Aizawa got snapped, "fun? Do you think this is fun? Then, how about this. The one in the last place after the eight fitness tests are over will be deemed as a person with no potential and will face expulsion."
Hearing his statement, suddenly everyone stopped doing side steps and looked at him in a surprise. Iida then said, "expulsion? But it is unfair expelling a student on the first day itself even if the teacher has right however he wants to run the class."
"Natural disasters, big accidents, selfish villains, etc. Heroes are the ones who reverse those situations. With an attitude like several of you displaying, do you think you are even qualified to become a hero? You only have three years here. When you graduate and become a hero, there'll be a huge responsibility on your shoulders. If all you think of having fun with the Quirks, I'm sorry but this isn't the place for you," Aizawa lectured them for a while and then said, "now, stop slacking off and be serious about displaying your abilities in these tests."
After that, they did distance run, seated toe-touch, and sit-ups. While Midoriya started to become panic as the rankings of all the seven tests are in the bottom three. He thought, "this is the last one. I can't control "One for All" yet. Everyone is leaving at least one amazing result. At this rate, I'll be last and will be expelled."
As Midoriya stood in the circle for the last test, Softball throw, Bakugo berated him as a Quirkless small fry and will be expelled for sure and Aizawa warned him that if he gets injured like how he did in the entrance exam, he will fail him for sure.
While Aizawa was thinking he has no potential, Midoriya then miraculously threw the ball more than 700m concentrating his quirk on one of his fingers instead that surprised not only Aizawa but also Bakugo and others. Meanwhile, Hiro who was also shocked like Bakugo thought, "700m with only index finger? I know only one such person with that much strength."
Later, Uraraka threw the ball up lightly and it never returned. After the device in Aizawa's hands showed an infinity symbol which was also a shocking moment for everyone. Then, after calling one by one, Hiroto's turn came up, just when he created a baseball bat like how Shoto did it, Aizawa spoke, "once again, I need to remind you that these tests are for me, a professional to evaluate you and create a training program for everyone later. Are you sure you want to do this and hide your Quirk? I have seen many people like you. But Believe me when I say there's no use of doing that. Sooner or later, you will have to reveal your Quirk. It'll only make you fall behind"
While everyone was wondering what is he talking about since Hiro used his Ice Quirk in two tests, Hiro nodded and caught the ball with the left hand as his right hand changed into something like a large Gun.
Then, he put the softball inside of it and pulled the trigger while aiming at an angle of 45 degrees to fire the Softball. As everyone got surprised seeing Hiro can turn a body part of him into a gun-shaped Ice, Aizawa smiled as he thought while looking at Hiro who was forced to move back a few steps because of recoil, "so, this is the Absolute Ice, one of the absolute Quirks I've heard about. First, he should focus on creating an Ideal gun for him that doesn't have this recoil side effect."
As the result was shown on the device he was carrying, "good job," Aizawa praised him and continued with the rest of the class.
