I died?
My name is Valentine. Why I think I died you ask? Simple: I am currently floating around in something I can only describe as the void. I wonder if this will last for eternity? I hope it will not. Let's go back to the last day which I spent on earth.
I was a young man who has recently finished university. Currently I spent my time mostly exploring my environment. On this fateful day I was traveling in a mountain range. I enjoyed the fresh air because only in areas such as these you could still breath without having to fear the feeling of suffocation. It is currently the year 2135.
Humanity has only survived until now because we optimized the human body artificially. Seeing untouched nature has become a luxury and seeing living animals which aren't used only to produce necessary products even more so. I was lucky to be allowed to enter a mountain range for one week since I was the top student from my university. I wandered around but suddenly I was hit by something. I thought it must be some fruit from a tree but when I looked closer it was a little snake.
It was a species I had never seen in my life which surprised me even more since I specialized in reptiles during my biology studies at my university. I had to bring this little snake with me no matter the cost. It slithered away and I followed right after it. Suddenly it was attacked by an eagle. I couldn't just stand by and do nothing so I charged at the incoming eagle to defend the snake. The eagle has already caught the little snake but it was still flying at low altitude. I jumped at it through some bushes and snatched the snake right back from it.
This moment of euphoria didn't last for long when I realized I jumped off a cliff. My evaluation of the situation turned for worse when the snake stopped moving. I wanted to shout out.
„Couldn't you die before I throw my life away"
but I thought those words wouldn't be suitable as my last words. Therefore I chose to stay silent, close my eyes and wait for the collision with the ground. I waited and it just did not come.
When I opened my eyes again I was floating.
