Bab 32: Chapter 32: Offending the last boss
"Why didn't you kill them instead? Is that because of some vague sense of morality you have?" Lee Taehyung found it very hard to understand Seojin's actions.
"I have never met them. In this life, I might never come across them either. So I won't kill them just for the sake of killing them," answered Seojin.
He knew that this world had changed. Being kind to others was like being cruel to himself. A few people had already attempted to kill him since he woke up in this world.
He wasn't a fool who thought that killing others to protect himself was a sin. But at the same time, he didn't want to kill a million humans just for the sake of it.
"Also, you believe that most of them won't try to escape? Maybe you are right. But I would rather leave this choice to them, than to strip their last hope as well."
Seojin kept the sword back and entered the other room through the opening in the wall. He was followed by Taehyung.
"How long do you think they lived without a choice in this place?" Seojin continued. "You are saying that they won't try to escape because they know that they will die."
"You might be right on that as well. But I believe they will try to leave, despite knowing that."
"What makes you think that?" Taehyung asked.
"Do you think they did not know that they are going to die in these cells, like animals? For them, it is death at either end. I believe they should choose a death which comes with hope."
Lee Taehyung scoffed. "You overestimate these cowards. They would rather be prisoners if it means that they will live even one day longer."
"Probably." Seojin shrugged. "That's none of my concern now."
He had already received a notification that he had a unique achievement.
The moment he entered the Control Room, he received the achievement, especially since he was the first person to do that.
Seojin walked past the High Vampires that were guarding the Control Room. They still did not know what had happened.
The two of them reached the elevator, with only four minutes left in the timer. The High Vampires were focused on them. In just four minutes, they could react.

The Elevator opened on the ground floor.
Seojin stepped out of the elevator, momentarily freezing in place.
Even Lee Taehyung looked momentarily stunned.
The ground floor was completely empty before. But now, they could see hundreds of people there.
All these people were running out of this building. The number of people kept increasing as more and more humans were arriving through the stairs or elevators.
"I told you. Human will is sometimes quite strong. On top of that, add their jealousy and you will get the herd mentality."
Seojin tapped the Regressor's shoulder, as if telling him that he was right this time.
At the start, it was just like Seojin stated. No one was willing to leave the cells. But one person gathered the courage and left.
Even if he knew that he was going to die, he wanted to try escaping.
Seeing him leave, the others also felt like they might miss this opportunity. They also felt jealous.
What if that person succeeded while I stayed behind and continued being a slave? That was what they thought.
With time, more and more people started leaving the cells. And when enough people were leaving, the others also felt left out. And with the herd mentality, there was no one left behind.
Even the elevators were operating at full capacity as all the restrictions were removed by Seojin.
The stairs weren't left alone either. The number of people reaching the ground floor was only increasing with time.
"How many of them do you think will die?" Seojin walked towards a glass window.
With the gate being crowded, he did not select the ordinary exit.
He shattered the glass and jumped out from there.
Taehyung also landed outside.
"Most probably, none. Even the High Vampires start moving, these people are dead. They only have two minutes, it's not enough."
"Want to bet that you are wrong?" Seojin asked, revealing a smirk.
"What gives you confidence?"
Lee Taehyung had already lost the bet. He started being more cautious and did not underestimate Seojin.
If this guy was saying that it was wrong, then he wanted to know why that was the case. What did they miss?
"You are forgetting a really important factor."
"And that factor is?" Taehyung asked.
"Us." Seojin proudly stated.
"The High Vampires would not go after these humans. They will come after us. It's a mess that we caused. For these humans, we are distractions."
"What makes you think that they would pay attention to us, instead of their food?"
"Because someone is already paying attention to us."
Seojin raised his head, looking above a distant building.
It was too far away, but he could still see a silhouette standing atop that building, looking directly at them.
He had only incidentally tested his Insight skill on this figure, but it had worked and made him understand a lot of things.
