Two months later, Leon got a message on his phone telling him where he would join the expedition. Looking at the included map, Leon saw the area was in a private airfield where they would take off.
Packing his bags and saying goodbye to his family and servants, Leon departed for the expedition. Leon didn't ask Silvia to fly him as he didn't want to draw any unwanted attention.
Pulling up to the airfield gate, Leon flashed the guards his license before he buzzed him in. People crowded the airway, milling around and checking over gear.
Leon found himself walking towards the most potent aura in the area as that's where he would find the mad man behind all of this.
Netero was inside a large trailer, and Leon could sense a few other signatures in the room. Knocking on the door, Leon waited, "Ah, it seems our special guest has arrived, Bean, if you wouldn't mind getting the door."
Leon stepped back as the door open, and he looked down to see a small green thing with a smooth, bland head and no nose. Entering the room, Leon looked at the people sitting at the conference table.
Leon grinned as he felt their eyes try to see through him. Letting out his aura Leon pushed theirs back and was about to go a step further when Netero cleared his throat.
"Please, Mr. Zoldyck, restrain yourself. We don't have long to talk." Snorting, Leon walked over to the chair the Bean creature had pulled out for him, "Now that we're all present, we can begin."
Leon wasn't listening as he scanned the people sitting at the table. He recognized the group as the Zodiacs, the twelve hunters directly under the Hunters Association's Chairman.
Leon didn't like being in this room. The guards at the gate told him to find Netero and nothing else, "Now, Mr. Zoldyck, I am so glad that you agreed to join us in this historic event. Especially since you'll be leading it."
Leon's eyes widened slightly before he reigned in his surprise, "Why me, surely there is someone else more qualified."
Netero chuckled, "I think you downplay your knowledge about the Dark Continent and your strength."
Leon's face was schooled in a stony mask, "Still, you must have your own experts. This event has been ten years in the making to my knowledge."
"Ah yes, but I know your type, you plan for every scenario, and with your family's ties and resources, you must know something we don't. And you'll play on that something, so you come out ahead." Netero said, leaning back in his chair.
Leon narrowed his eyes. The old man knew what he was planning, or he had an idea, "Tell me, Isaac, what do you seek in the Dark Continent."
Netero was silent for a minute as he and Leon locked eyes before he sighed and looked away. "People forget that long ago, I was once a hunter as well. I miss the feeling of being out in the field. I plan to make this my last hunt in hopes of opening a new world for future generations."
Leon nodded in understanding, "Then how about I make both our dreams a bit easier." Netero looked up at that, "What do you propose?"
Leon smiled, "Hypothetically, if I had a secure area that could act as a base for any future hunters wanting to explore the Dark Continent, what would you say to an agreement between the Dragon Republic and the Hunters Association."
Leon couldn't help but grin at the surprised look on everyone's faces, "You don't mean to say that your family has?" Leon nodded at Netero's question.
"The Zoldyck family is no longer a clan of Assassins. We have created a Kingdom in the Dark Continent. In a few months, this will become public knowledge."
Netero's face lost all signs of cheerfulness, "What do you want, Leon?" Leon leaned back in his chair, not pressured at all from the aura Netero was emitting.
"Sorry, but that's for me and mine to know, but here's what I'm offering. Sign an agreement that the Hunters Association won't set up any permanent buildings on the Dark Continent outside the Republic's domain. In return, hunters' findings can be traded in for resources only found in the dark continent."
"You're bluffing. Entire governments have tried to tame that land. And you think a measly assassin clan can do the same." Leon glared at the man who had spoken out. He was slim with a very short haircut, protuberant ears, and a monkey-like face.
His name was Saiyu the Monkey Zodiac. Reaching into his pocket, Leon pulled out the same tinted vial and uncorked it.
Netero and the Zodiacs weren't able to stop the surprise from flashing across their faces, "As you all know what this is, I can assure you I am not bluffing. So Isaac, what do you say?"
Leon could see it in his eyes. The man had no reason to refuse. It seemed like both sides would benefit. But as he said before, Leon would always come out ahead.
"I'll agree to it, but we'll work out the exact details at a later date once you show me this supposed haven." Leon smiled and stood up, "Great, I'll have my lawyer send over the paperwork. Until next time Isaac."
Leon was just out the door when he stopped, "Oh, it was good to see you after all this time, Saccho. Maybe we can have another arm-wrestling contest."
Leon left as the horse face man smiled when he was far enough from the trailer. The smile melted off his face before he teleported into a secluded part where there weren't as many people.
Picking up his phone, Leon texted Gotoh what happened and deploy the troupes and builders they hired immediately and start making permeate building in the haven to make it look like a real city.
"We're going to have a little open house." Leon grinned and shut off his phone.
