Bab 17: Teaching

The congratulations from the boy in front of her slightly lifted Hope's mood. However, during this brief moment of losing focus, she noticed the connection she felt to the presence around her wavering, making her take a quick action to regain that feeling of trying to reach out to the magic around her.

Seeing her response, John laughed lightly. "Feel the world around you through your soul and it responds back to you. Grab this feeling and don't let it go."

Without an answer, Hope did like he said and closed her eyes again, trying to retake that strong feeling.

Still on the window, John looked back at the twins, taking a look at the magic around slowly moving towards them.

The amount moving towards Lizzie was extremely small. To the point it would require her a certain amount of time to absorb the necessary magic to cast even the most basic spells.

Josie, however, was absorbing a slightly bigger amount. Result of her having learned Magical Resonance a few hours earlier and having this feeling of connection to the magic more present in her mind.

But things here are different. John's gaze lingered on Hope, and marveled at the sheer amount of Magic moving at her. It was dozens and dozens of times the amount around Josie and Lizzie combined.

Well, considering Hope has a stronger soul than the twins, it makes sense she can manipulate this much magic right away and even Resonate as quickly. All she needed was to put her mind into it. John thought, his golden eyes narrowing slightly to focus on the bright soul in front of him, Hope's Soul.

Hope's Soul was easy for him to see. Just like the magic in her body was similar to a lighthouse amidst the most fierce storms with dark clouds covering the stars, her soul was like the brightest galaxy amidst the void.

But the aspect of her soul that caught most of John's interest was how different it was compared to any other supernatural being's.

A witch's soul was the most similar to a human's. The most distinctive difference is how they seem more "free". They seemed unshackled from the normality that locked the normal human souls.

This aspect of "freedom" is a result of what the world calls someone who had their Magic "tapped". Or how John also liked to say, Ignited or Awakened.

Their soul, which is the Source of their Magic, was tapped and freed from normality and blessed by the gift which is Magic.

The werewolves' souls were already more different.

Their souls were tainted by their curse. Also, very possibly, the curse ignited their soul in a way similar to the witches. But differently, instead of giving them the gift of Magic, the magic released from their soul enhanced their physiques, making them stronger and faster than the normal human. However, as stated, this was a curse.

During the first few days he was here, John had the opportunity first-hand to experience the werewolves going through their full moon.

He could see it. As the full moon reached its zenith, the curse slowly released the beastly will locked in it, messing with their mind and facilitating them having anger issues and lashing out at anyone in front of them. With the moon reaching its apex, the curse got stronger and stronger, with more bones crushing and flesh ripping apart. In the end, they turned into the beasts that hunted their creator.

The vampires were the most different. Their souls seemed… magnified. But not in the power aspect. Yes, their souls were stronger than the average witch and all wolves outside of the full moon. But, that was not what represented their souls being magnified. Their selves were magnified. Their personalities and emotions were heightened.

A vampire feels everything more intensely. A small argument turns into a bloody war. A random encounter is the greatest friendship. A beautiful girl in the market is their other half.

That's how vampirism works.

You are now stronger, immortal and feel like you can do anything. You are all of that. But at the same time, the predatory will inside you that urges you to feed calls you from within. You experience more emotions in a night than in a whole year. The sheer amount of change in their minds is what makes most of them flip the switch and turn them into emotionless monsters.

And if not enough, their soul acted like an accelerated heart that constantly beat. But instead of blood, it spread a constant torrent of magic in them that made them stronger by every second. Yes, the notice was so infimal that it would take months and very precise tests to notice the difference, but it was there.

Now, with Hope being a Tribrid, she shared certain aspects of each species.

She had the gift of magic as a witch. A First-Born Mikaelson Witch. Her curse, compared to the others, was rather "tame" because of her being a Crescent. So, after her first full moon, Hope had perfect control over her curse. She could turn whenever or wherever she wished.

Her vampire heritage was the most subtle of all for now, after all, Hope never died, but it was just as present as the other two. In physical aspects, it may only be seen through the Original Vampire blood running through her veins, but John knew for sure there was more. After all, he could see it.

When the twins' souls were compared to Hope's, it was obvious the difference in them. Both in power and essence.

Hm, the magic from beyond the room is beginning to be influenced by her as well. John noticed. "Hope, change your focus from increasing your range to controlling it while doing other actions."

Hope followed John's instructions, opening her eyes and nodding. And considering just how little the magic wavered in her control, John considered it a successful attempt.

"How do you feel?" John asked, obviously doing it to make her get used to resonating while talking.

"It's… a peculiar feeling. I feel like my grasp extends beyond my body, as if my mind is expanding alongside the magic." Hope said, describing things very slowly so as not to lose focus.

Listening to her description, John tilted his head from one side to another. "Technically, your mind is doing that." He said, getting a curious glare from Hope. "Relax, I will explain later."

"Okay." Hope nodded. "Besides the twins, will you tell someone else about how to resonate?" Hope asked, a little curious about John's prospects.

"No." John shook his head. "I am just teaching the twins more because Josie learned how to do it herself than out of my good will towards her."

"Then you don't worry about this new way of witches getting stronger suddenly leaking?" Hope asked, she was learning rather quickly how to talk and resonate at the same time.

"Not much. I mean, I know the witches suddenly getting stronger would result in a shift in the supernatural community's status, but that won't affect us." John said nonchalantly. "However, I knew you would be worried, so I took the necessary precautions to ensure that." He added, not revealing much.

"Thanks." Hope smiled.

"Anything for you." John smiled as well. "Now, I will see how the girls are doing. After all, it seems you have things under control here."

Receiving a nod from Hope, John turned on his heels and crossed the window of her room, his body defying gravity as he stepped on the air to cross the distance between him and the twins.

With a quick glance at the twins, John spotted their own mistakes.

"Lizzie, you are too anxious." John softened his voice to deliver these words. "Don't be. Haste is not the answer to whatever you seek right now."

"I-it's diffi-cult." She muttered, immediately losing focus.

"Then let me help you." John said, sitting down. But this time, in front of her. "Open your eyes."

With her eyelids trembling slightly, Lizzie opened her eyes, with them staring immediately at John's. But again, her grasp over the magic fell again.

"I think you heard once when two people look at each other's eyes, their heartbeats enter in synchronization." John said, his voice extremely low, like a wisp of wind. "Besides magic, don't focus on anything else but my eyes. Stare at them as deeply as you can. My calmness, steal it and make it yours." Following his own words, the young man stared at the clear sky blue eyes who wavered when meeting his.

At the beginning, when looking at the golden eyes in front of her, similar to looking at an endless wheat field, Lizzie felt more anxious and edgy than anything, and these feelings grew as she realized they were quite obvious.

But time continued to flow as it should, and as it passed, Lizzie noticed that unbothered by her behavior, those eyes remained unwavering. Doing just as he said, delivering the calmness he desired to give to her.

As she stared at them, the anxious she felt naturally left her being, with her mind grasping the calming presence delivered by him.

Slowly, her heartbeat reached an harmonious state, followed by her mind that soothed at his stare. Unconsciously, the connection she felt to her environment reverted to its previous state. And from there, in a slow, but steady rate, progressed.

Inwardly, John smiled at his notice of this event. A little proud of Lizzie.

After this brief help, John slowly distanced himself from Lizzie, letting her do the rest herself, with the young man just silently observing her and her sister.

This "mentoring" lasted for a good time, with John calling out their attention when he noticed the moon reaching a certain height, an indication it was almost 11:00 PM.

"I think that's it for today." John said, seeing the eyes of the two girls snap open. "How are you feeling?"

"I feel great! No, better than great!" Lizzie said, her mood better than previously.

"I just have to thank you for your words that day, John." Josie said, slowly rising to her feet. "If not for them, I probably would never think of a way to get rid of my and my sister's hindrance."

"Don't need to thank me. That was all you. Actually, I feel a little bad for not thinking about it earlier." John said, scratching the back of his head a little.

"Please, don't be." Josie said, taking a step further.

With a small laugh, John easily agreed, nodding. "Okay. Now, before going into your rooms. Did you say to anybody else about what we were about to do here? Or someone might've eavesdropped on you when you were talking to Lizzie, Josie?" John asked, taking a serious tone.

Listening to him, both girls shook their heads. "Why?" Lizzie asked.

"I would like you to promise to stay quiet about today's meeting." John said, proceeding to explain, a rare edge in his words. "What we did here today, if widespread, might make some changes in the magical community. It's not a joke when I say that if all witches suddenly could control the magic in the environment as they wished, a war between species might break out since if they are strong enough, some covens won't accept sharing cities with vampires or werewolves. Some might go as far as to declare total war." He emphasized, putting weight in his words so the girls could understand his question.

John himself believed that a war might break out? Yes, but not so easily. But since he wanted them to promise him to tell no one, he will use these words.

"Can you promise to not tell anyone about it?"

"Not even our father?" Lizzie asked.

"Better not. He worries too much about the peace among the three species. He will just get unquiet if he learns about a way for one of the three sides to get stronger." John said. "Obviously, the same way I have this knowledge, you have it as well and can do whatever you want with it. But I would like it to stay as secret as possible. Can you do that for me?"

"Yes."

"Of course!"

"Thanks." John nodded. "Now, go to your rooms. It's too late already, and you have classes tomorrow."

"Don't we have class together? Why are you rushing us to sleep?"

"Because I am the one who doesn't need to sleep if I don't wish to. Now, go on." John said, pushing them playfully, with the girls complying.

Now, alone amidst the field of grass. John stood there, silent, not doing a single action. That is, until he suddenly smiled. "Shh…" He said. Then, with his feet detaching from the ground, he started flying to Hope's room.

When he crossed the window and landed on the floor beneath him, John smiled when seeing Hope in the same position. "Will you continue it or you'd rather sleep?"

Opening her eyes, Hope smiled. "I like it. It's comfortable to feel the environment. It also gives that sentiment when I casted my first spell. That feeling of Magic." Hope said, slowly rising to her feet. "Come on, let's sleep. We have class early in the morning tomorrow." She said, going to bed.

John followed her. When all lights turned off, with only the light of the moon illuminating the room slightly, he smiled comfortably, thinking today was a good day.

I liked writing this chapter, but I also noticed something. What do you guys think when I try to give these long explanations? Do you prefer it that way or to stretch the explanation in a few chapters. I will do the latter to properly explain how Magical Resonance work, or I would've already explained it. Also tell me what do you think of this chapter generally, like John's interactions with Josie and Lizzie and his little change after his talk with Hope. Also, Happy New Year to everyone! I hope this year is great for all of us. Anyways, thanks for all your support and here it is today's chapter, enjoy it - Author.
