Bab 2: The Mother

"Good afternoon, Mom," said Indra to the mother sitting behind the sewing machine.

"Hey… good afternoon, Son. Are you home at this hour?" said his mother as he accepted the eldest hand, followed by a respectful greeting and a kiss on the back of the palm.

"There's no lesson, Mom."

"Oh, you have graduated. Mother forgot it."

"Not yet, Mom. There hasn't been an announcement yet," objected the boy, who always felt his heart was at peace and wanted to smile when he was alone with his mother.

"Ah, you will definitely pass… that mother's child is nothing stupid. Is it not? Being poor is our fate, but that doesn't mean we can be stupid," said his mother.

"If we don't have money for school, won't we be stupid in the end?" the child objected.

"Not necessarily. It all depends on the will. The proof is that I never had enough money to send you to school. But… hmmm, Mother's child has almost graduated from high school." No less clever, the mother again replied to correct her son's wrong opinion.

Hearing his mother's answer, the child didn't lose his mind to keep his thoughts,

"Mother… if it's for college, doesn't it cost a lot? If we want to be smart, we have to be able to sit in college. That means we will not be smart if we can't afford to pay for college. Because poor people will not be able to study at a university," satisfied, the child immediately vented his heart troubles subtly.

However, he suddenly became astonished when he heard his mother's answer,

"Ah, not really… not really, Ndra. Because everything also depends on each other's intentions and determination," replied the middle-aged woman who still looked beautiful.

"If the intention is big, but there is no cost?" pursue the child tirelessly.

"There are scholarships for those who are less able or have achievements." The mother continued to serve.

"Is it enough to live? Eating, renting a boarding room, transportation, photocopying, or even having to rent a computer?" continued to not want to stop, and the child returned to the corner with a question.

"Haha… you're brilliant when you want to pick something up. Uh, I became suspicious ... maybe, you want to go to college ..." the mother asked back while staring intently at her son's face.

"Ah, mother, if you ask me, I'm just lazy. Try to answer first. What if the scholarship isn't enough to pay for living during college?" said the eldest son.

"You can go to work, Ndra... college isn't all day like people working in an office..." calmly, her mother answered.

---

The woman who became his mother was an extraordinary figure, and he greatly admired and loved her. How is that not so? Because as soon as she lost her husband and all the property used to pay off debts, her mother didn't necessarily become discouraged.

Indra can remember and know this clearly. Because at that time, it just so happened that he had just finished his junior high school exam. And what was recorded in his mind, the mother only seemed sad when she had to lose the husband she loved so much. But he knew for sure that the woman didn't even look the least bit regretful when she had to lose the house and its contents and the vehicle they had.

Later that day, his mother told Indra she was considered significant enough. That paying off the deceased father's debt is an abandoned obligation. This was emphasized as understanding so his father's spirit could be freed from all dependents in the eternal realm.

Thus there is a woman named Widuri whom he loves very much as his mother. Because after they returned to the village with no valuables except clothes, she never regretted what she had done. And even so, the woman can still remain wise and look happy to raise her children with love. Even so far, they have never felt the pleasures of an established life again like in the past.

This is what makes the son so respectful of his mother. He was amazed and loved because the woman who gave birth to him had sacrificed so much for her family. And one more thing that makes him love his mother even more is her nobility and unyielding attitude in facing the hardships of life.

---

"Well, now it's my turn to ask," suddenly, her mother immediately turned things around.

"About what, Mom?" although he had expected the question to be asked, Indra tried to put on a face that pretended not to know.

"Do you really want to go to college after graduation?" sure, that's the question that immediately sounded.

"Is it possible if I want to go to college?" Indra replied while again pretending not to understand.

"Of course, you can. Where there is a will, there is a way…." Immediately the mother answered optimistically.

"Where is the way? Can I find it?" agile, the child immediately replied.

"I believe that you will be able to. Because you are a smart and tenacious child."

"Then how is it going? Mother hasn't answered yet," the child repeated the question. Apparently, he wasn't satisfied if he had not received a fact that supported the mother's theory.

"You just have to live with your intention. Where do you want to go to college?"

"What do you mean, Mom?"

"We have to think realistically, Le. Needless to say, you definitely know how your parents are doing. Is that right, you go to college, and then you have to sell your grandfather's house?" still not ready to explain the meaning earlier, the mother even twisted words.

"I don't want that either. If this house is sold, where will your mother and sister sleep? Hehehe.…" decided not to be tense anymore, and Indra tried to speak more casually.

"Well… that you know. It's impossible, right?"

"Yes, Mom… Then, what is still possible if I still want to go to college?"

"If you study outside the city, you pay a lot of money and rent a boarding room. Of course, it will be difficult for us. Not to mention, you have to buy food two or three times a day… that's why the government has also been paying attention to it since the beginning." the mother began to explain.

"And then? Is it free? Scholarship?"

"Yes… surely many have studied with government scholarships. But some colleges don't have to cost money. Alias, you can do everything from home."

"Is there?"

"Yes, it's called the Open University. And its status is a State University. Don't worry and have low self-esteem because many students excel…." That's how her mother explained.

"Oh, I just heard this now," the child responded.

Knowing if her son was interested, the mother immediately explained the details regarding the Open University she had previously known. Because many of her friends are studying there and have also carved out exemplary achievements and careers while working.

---

Not long ago, after his mother told him about a university of no less quality and could be used by all groups in seeking knowledge, Indra seemed to be silently digesting it with interest and sincerity.

The mother immediately asked, "You want to join there, Ndra?"

Seeing how seriously Indra thought, the mother thought her son would be interested in what she told. However, it turned out that Widuri was disappointed because the child even shook his head while waiting for an answer.

"Oh, why not? Why did you seriously think that way? If you study there, you can definitely get a job. After all, I can also help you a little bit…" sounding disappointed, the mother immediately started to give advice.
