"Raiden…..?" Toshi gazed at me.
"Yes, I'm going down there."
"Don't be a fool, Raiden. I won't allow you to just go down there and die," Sheila said. "Smith can take care of this, he is more skilled and experienced than you."
"I'm as experienced as any of us here and I know what I'm doing. I won't die that easily." I said it with an eye-to-eye contact with Sheila.
She took her eyes off. "No means n-" A voice from the crowd interrupted her.
It was that angry man from before.
"Sheila, let Raiden go down there, he is not a kid anymore. He has became a real man." That man said with a vile smirk on his face.
"You heard him right, Sheila? Now let me go down," I insisted.
"Are you sure? Raiden?" Toshi asked.
"Yes dude I'm dead sure."
I was really sure but my heart wasn't. It was bumping so fast I could almost hear my heartbeat. But I was determined to go down there. I didn't want to put others life in danger. I swear I would protect everyone at all cost.
Sheila agreed and finally the grim look on her face was gone. She looked worried and after all these times I could see her femime look again. The face which was always so worked up and tensioned was gone and all left there was worry for me.
"Don't die," she said with such a beautiful face.
It made me feel so happy. All my fear was gone in an instant. I was ready to take on whatever awaited me. I prepared myself. Took my backpack and hung a sword on my waist.
I looked inside the deep blackness. I couldn't see anything until Sheila focused with the torch on the ladder on the front wall. The crowd was just behind me.
A little of the fear returned. 'What if I can't grab the ladder?' 'What if my hands slipped midway?' 'What if the ground floor is filled with zombies?' Thoughts like these filled my mind. 'Fuck it,' I said to all those thoughts and made the jump.
My hands perfectly grabbed one the rungs and my feet also landed on one rung. I maintained the balance. I took a glance downside and it looked hell. I placed my glance straight at the wall.
I started moving downwards then several beam of lights came from behind. One on my left side, another one at the right, one on my feets and one roamed in the whole shaft. The beams followed me as I went down. I crossed the 5th and 6th floor. I placed each steps very slowly knowing that a big horde of zombies were right behind me at the other side of wall.
As I went further away from the group my heart beated more violently. At that point I didn't even know at which floor I was, I just moved down without thinking about anything.
Then the beam of light suddenly shifted away from me. That sudden darkness in front of me made me drop a beat but I immediately looked at the side where all beam went.
I had reached the ground floor. All beam focused on the gate directly opposite to me, then few of them returned to me. They probably wanted to see my reaction.
I could hear little moaning of zombies from the floor above me but it looked quite from the ground floor which gave my heart a relief.
I knew exactly what I had to do there. I grabbed the rung with my right hand even more tight and drew the sword with my left hand. I stretched my right hand and learned from the ladder towards the door on the opposite wall. My left hand held the sword. I placed the sharp edge of my sword into the little slit between both of the doors and it was fully stuck in between. I pushed the sword further in with my feet and it went through.
The slit widened a little. I had lost contact with my sword but it was still stuck between both the doors.
I couldn't see anything through the slit as the darkness continued on the other side of the door too. But I was a little sure that there were no zombies on the other side. If there were any then they would have made some slightest of the moment.
The rays from the slit directly went inside my eyes which blinded me for a second. I rubbed my eyes with my left hand and adjusted my eyes to the darkness again. I looked up but all I could see was several beams coming from same location. I kind of got the hint there that they didn't want me to waste any more minute. So I prepared myself for a jump again.
I put my aim at a big horizontal pipe which was at the left side of the door. The light was also focusing on that spot. I had to grab on that pipe and put my feets on a pipe which was a little down to the bottom left side of the door.
Now I actually noticed that this shaft had lots of pipes all over the place. Don't know why though.
Then, I jumped. Straight towards the front wall. The distance between the door and ladder wasn't too big but still my heart beated so hard. My hands reached the pipes, finally grabbing them. My legs also touched the lower pipe.
These pipes weren't too strong. They could break at any moment. I immediately retracted my sword which was stuck in between the doors and then I put my fingers inside the slit, I held one of the doors with my right hand and then pulled it towards me.
A sudden fear came back as I opened the door. But I didn't stop. I kept on pulling the door until it went fully inside the wall. I placed my right leg on the floor and called my whole body inside the door. I didn't try to look at the ground floor but instead I pushed the right door inside.
Well I didn't even need to check for anything as it was clear there were no zombies on this floor.
I looked up at the light sources and showed them a thumb. Maybe I looked like a fool while doing it but it made me happy. They all relied on me and I was successful in opening the door.
Then I went inside to search the area and the exit to the ground floor.
Sheila saw me as I vanished in the darkness.
Sheila, Toshi, Kingslayer and Smith were leaned over at the edge holding the torches in their hand. Others sat besides the walls of the room.
They waited there for some time as I was gone.
But after a few minutes a familiar face returned from the darkness and it waved towards them.
It was me, I had returned and gave them the sign to come down here.
Sheila stood up and so did Toshi.
"Toshi, tell everyone that we are leaving now." Sheila said as she kept her gaze on me.
Everyone took their position on Toshi's command. Our group consisted a total of 20 members. 5 females, 12 males and 3 kids in total.
Everyone grouped up at the entrance of the lift. They were ready to go with their bags packed.
Sheila gave Smith a quick nod. Smith passed his torch over to Wilson and he prepared himself to jump to the other side.
It became completely dark at my side as every beam of light was fixed on the ladder for smith.
Smith made the jump. At first I thought it was impossible for Smith's insanely large body to maintain balance on the small ladder but I was impressed as I saw Smith perfectly making his grip on the ladder.
He came two or three rungs down and stopped. The next one to make the jump was a kid. A cute and little girl, her name was Mei. I couldn't see anything clearly but I was sure that it was Mei. She probably was too scared to even open her eyes just like I was. But even that scared little child made a jump in the end.
Smith was at the other side to grab her. Mei was still in the fear of making that bold jump but Smith calmed her down and after a few seconds she decided to climb the ladder down.
Smith and Mei both slowly descended as some other boys and girls joined them on the ladder.
Sheila thought of letting the kids go down with different pairs and Mei was chosen for the first pair.
Mei reached down to the third floor.
As the number of person descending from the ladder increased, the number of light beams from Mei shifted away. At first she was surrounded by lights from all directions but now there were only one beam of light on her feets.
Thought the tunnel shone a little because of the torches but the wall at Mei's face was pitch black. She didn't look anywhere else but only glared at the black wall. Soon the blackness made her heart drop some beats. She was totally frightened. A child of her age, climbing down a small ladder in a dark tunnel with zombies at the opposite side of walls, couldn't handle such pressure.
Scary thoughts about zombies were going inside her brain and at her next step, her leg slipped from the rung. She couldn't maintain the grip of her hand and as a result she fell down.
The fear of zombies, the fear of dark, the fear of a scary tunnel, the fear of falling and the fear of death, everything exploded inside her all at once which came out through a loud scream.
She fell down but directly below her, Smith was there. He grabbed her hand as she fell down. She hung in the air and Smith pulled her over to his neck which she immediately grabbed with every force in her arms.
A thump sounded behind their back.
Mei closed her eyes as she folded her arms around Smith's neck. Tears fell from her eyes but she tried to not make anymore sound.
Everyone was startled by that loud scream but they were more scared by that thump.
The thump sound constantly came from the gates of the third floor. It increased, later multiple thumps were heard.
Nobody even dared to move a single inch. Everyone who were on the ladder were frightened. I didn't feel any good too about this.
When some of the lights focused on the third floor's gate it became visible. A deep dent on the door which was given from the other side. And with the constant thumps, the dent became even more shallow.
A slit opened between the doors and a hand came out from it.
That sudden appearance of hand gave everyone chills of fear.
Everyone on the ladder started climbing up. They made the jump from the ladder to the seventh floor.
Now the zombie's head also popped out of the slit.
Smith climbed a little up from his previous location and suddenly the gate to the third floor broke.
I backed off a little from the edge as I saw the sudden flood of the zombies falling down from above. The flood of zombies clashed against the metal lift down in the pit which made even more loud sound.
The 10 meter deep pit was filling up with the zombies. I stood a little far from the edge as that terrible scene froze all my moments. Those zombies started climbing the ladder. I couldn't see anything clearly but when the light focused on the ladder in front of me, I saw a zombie crawling slowly up and behind it were others, following it's path.
I didn't know anymore what to do. I was the only one who could stop them from going further from that location. I even had a sword big enough in length to reach the ladder. But I couldn't even make a single step forward.
"Run away! Raiden!" A voice came from above the tunnel. It was Sheila's voice.
I snapped out from my unconscious state. I noticed that the zombies had already passed from the location where I could reach them.
I clenched my fists and whispered, "I will protect you Sheila no matter what happens."
I spread my legs backwards and walked reversed steps. I walked slowly away from the zombies and turned around when I got mixed into the darkness.

Smith reached the seventh floor. Mei was still on his back. "Mei, it's time to jump," he called out.
"No! No! No! I'm scared, I can't do it," Mei shook her head. Her eyes were still closed.
Smith took a peek down. 1st and 2nd floor's doors were destroyed too and zombies fell from it. The pit was already filled up to the ground floor. And, the biggest problem that those zombies were climbing the ladder. They almost reached at Smith's feet.
"Mei, you don't have to do anything. Just believe in me. Do what I tell you and you and I both will be out of this tunnel. You wanna get out from here right?" Smith said with a smile.
Mei opened her eyes and agreed with Smith to make a jump.
"Now don't look down and hold my neck more tightly."
Mei did that, she held Smith's neck with even more force. Smith didn't want Mei to get afraid from the sudden jump that's why he told her to be ready.
A hand from below reached out towards Smith and grabbed his leg. Smith shook off that zombie's grip and kicked him on the face. That zombie fell from the ladder taking few other zombies down with it.
Smith grabbed Mei's hand which were on his neck and made the jump. Mei was still little scared and closed her eyes. And, when she opened her eyes again they were standing on the seventh floor.
Sheila pulled her weapons out and other group members did the same. The zombies were still climbing the ladder. Sheila aimed at the zombie who almost reached the seventh floor. That zombie stopped its moment when it reached directly opposite to the seventh floor.
Sheila's aim was directly at it's scull and surprising it jumped back towards Sheila as if it already knew where all of them were standing.
But before it could reach the seventh Sheila shot it down in the mid air and it fell.
In all the silence that gunshot sounded so loud.
Then another gunshot was fired but it sounded a little more quiter than the first one. Then another gunshot, then another and another.
But none of them were fired by the group on the seventh floor. Rather it came from outside the mall, somewhere a little far away.
"What the hell are you doing Raiden?" Sheila said and she looked shocked.
I stood on the plane road behind the mall, holding my gun up and fired constant gunshots.
