Bab 43: CALL FOR MISSION: Into the Rotten Swamp —4

[ROTTEN SWAMP, 280TH CENTURY, SUMMER]

As Damien and Sachi followed the nymphs through the swamp, the atmosphere gradually lightened. The nymphs moved with a fluid grace that starkly contrasted their earlier aggression.

The winding, narrow path led them to a small hidden village nestled deeper in the swamp. Wooden huts adorned with intricate carvings dotted the landscape, surrounded by patches of glowing, luminescent flowers. Despite the beauty, a pall of sadness hung over the place, evident in the wilted plants and the weary expressions of the nymphs.

An elder nymph approached them, her serene face lined with worry. "Welcome to our village," she said. "My name is Elysia, the caretaker."

"We're very happy to be here," Sachi replied.

Damien's eyes scanned the village. "What happened here?" he muttered.
