Bab 82: Hungover

The soft snores echoing from the guest room came to an abrupt end. The slumbering princess Dylan woke up to the sounds of quiet chatter and obnoxious chirps that he once found pleasant.

"Uuurgh." Dylan held his ringing head and sat up. He kneaded his forehead and the memories came rushing at him.

"Sherry not loving me…It hurts my heart. I don't like it." "I don't want her to not love me. I want her to look at me and tell me she loves me as much as I love her." "If she doesn't love me, I can just woo her until she does."

"Ahhhhhhhhh." Dylan quietly screamed in anguish. He covered his flushed face with his big hands and wished desperately to dig a hole to hide in.

Dylan: Why, just why did I drink!!! I even cried in front of Sherry's dad, oh lord, I want to die!

Through his tears, Dylan tried to remember what else happened that day. If he did anything irredeemable…he didn't even want to think about it. Fortunately, or unfortunately however, his memories after the next glass were all fuzzy. He couldn't even remember how he got to bed. It was all blank, what he did or said were all a mystery to him.

"What did I do? Uuu, this is bad. What if I used magic? The last time I got drunk, I froze the whole pub. The owner was really angry at me after that and no one would let me drink anymore." Dylan muttered to himself while ruffling his hair in desperation.

"If I really did use magic…will they persecute me like a witch? But witches are actually really kind people, it's just a stereotype. The witch of the Misty Forest baked me a cake once, and she always sends me snacks and potions. Ah, but witches of this world are fictitious and are known to be really evil and mean. They burnt them at the stakes, didn't they? What if they did that to me too? Oh, but Sherry wouldn't let them. Maybe they'll just avoid me instead or get scared of me. Nooo~, that can't happen. It'll just be a repeat of the Kaiser house all over again."

…It seemed that Dylan may have still been a bit drunk. He rambled on and on, going in circles and talking nonsense. The hungover boy didn't even notice that he was still in Sherry's house, in the guest room that he was all so familiar with.

Knock knock, there was a knock on the door. Dylan flinched at the sound and raised his guard. His tensely focussed on the door, utilising his acute senses and ability to detect all presences around him. The being behind the wooden door was gentle, kind and warm. It was his beloved Sherry. However, this Sherry was somewhat different. Dylan could somehow sense apprehension and nervousness plaguing her soul.

Dylan: This, what exactly did I do yesterday?!

Dylan rushed out of bed to open to the door. The uneasy Sherry waiting outside was instantly greeted by the beautiful sight of a just woken up Dylan. Parts of his soft golden hair were sticking up and his hair was unkempt like a bird's nest. His heterochromatic eyes were hazy with sleepiness and his top buttons were undone, attracting one's eyes to trail down and find his tempting nape and defined collarbone.

"G-good morning, Sherry." Dylan smiled sheepishly, it was the perfect balance of embarrassment and shyness and also charm. It was too much of a sight in the morning, especially after Sherry had just gotten her heart broken.

Sherry: Dammit, Sherry! You've literally just decided last night to just be friends, you can't ogle him like that.

"…Good morning to you too, Dylan." Sherry suppressed the anguish in her heart and smiled back at Dylan. Even so, the tips of her ears were a little red and her eyes a little teary.

"What b-brings you here today? Especially so early in the morning?" Dylan asked.

"? I came to wake you up to eat breakfast. Mum cooked some hangover soup for you." Sherry replied, albeit a little confused.

There was a brief silence. The ticking of the clock in the room filled the silence while Dylan registered his surroundings. The familiar walls and hallways, the photos hanging on the walls and the carpeting on the floor, this was totally Sherry's house!

"How, how did I wake up in your house?" Dylan asked, eyes watering up.

"You don't remember? You fell asleep last night after drinking with my dad so we left you in the guest room to sleep." Sherry explained.

"I don't remember what happened yesterday. It's all just a murky mess." Dylan confessed, hand cradling his head.

'He doesn't remember?' Sherry held her chest. 'Is that a good thing or a bad thing?'

"Did I do anything weird last night? Like cut things with my sword or use magic or talk about Diva?" Dylan anxiously questioned. "When I get drunk, I lose control and say everything on my mind. I even froze a whole pub once."

"Pft-!" Unbeknownst to herself, Sherry began to laugh at the situation. She's never seen Dylan so anxious before and fretting about like that. He's lost his composure and began to carry on like a child who did something wrong for the first time in his life.

'Maybe he was still drunk.' Sherry giggled. 'He's so cute.'

She froze. 'What am I doing?' Sherry shook her head to banish those thoughts. 'No more. Begone devil. I have to be the friend Dylan thinks I am. No more impure thoughts about my friend.'

"W-why are you laughing? Did I do something funny?" Dylan cried and crouched down in sorrow.

Sherry shook her head and laughed once more. "You didn't do anything. When I came home, you were just sleeping on the dinner table. Though, my dad looked really tired for some reason."

"R-really?" Dylan looked up at Sherry through his hands and asked with puppy eyes. His slightly tilted head and red ears was really too much.

"Y-yeah. So go washup and go to the dining room later." Sherry told Dylan before running away. In her room, she collapsed onto the floor and assumed the form that Dylan had just been taking. She grabbed her hair and muttered to herself in despair. "How am I supposed to get over him when he's tempting me like this?"

Her voice was weak and shaky, sounding as if she couldn't handle it anymore. But Sherry wasn't willing to take that step to foster love between her and Dylan. She'd seen what love did to friendships and wasn't willing to go through that again.
