Bab 43: Do You Want To Be A Hero? (24) | Cover's Blown
Musutafu City was at its all-time rowdiest following the rampage of the sludge villain inside the city's famous shopping district...
Ambulances and police vehicles blared their sirens high, a cacophony of sounds echoing throughout the entire city.
But that wasn't all.
Helicopters filled the almost-sunset sky—not just from the police force but from news reporters, both local TV networks and those from outside Musutafu. All of them were trying to capture the latest and most shocking events.
It certainly livened up the already noisy metropolis, pushing it to its peak.
Meanwhile, a certain green-haired high schooler walked away from the chaos, making his way through the empty suburban street of Musutafu's outer suburban complex.
He was heading home for the day, trying his best to ignore the noise behind him...
However, his focus kept shifting to the smartphone he held up in his hand, where the livestream of the incident's aftermath played before his eyes.
"—We're coming to you live from Musutafu City, where chaos erupted earlier today as a dangerous villain went on a rampage through the city's most prestigious shopping district!"
A beautiful news reporter was currently live reporting from the site of the incident, where the camera panned to reveal the ruined state of the district behind her, a scene of destruction.
Authority figures and the police force worked tirelessly, trying to restore order while beginning the painstaking process of cleaning up the debris.
Pro-Heroes were also assisting in the effort, their Quirks making the cleanup and rescue operations more efficient.
"Pro Heroes were quick to respond to the villain's rampage, preventing casualties while fending off further destruction, but..."
Her voice trailed off as she and her cameraman moved closer to the heart of the wrecked district.
There, in the center, they arrived at a massive crater, where both authorities and Pro-Heroes were gathered—some standing along the rim, others investigating the inside of the giant hole.
"... The situation took a surprising turn with the appearance of a mysterious green-armored vigilante. Let's go over the details..."
The newsfeed shifted from the live report to a few quick interviews with bystanders.
"I saw him appear out of nowhere... just whoosh, and there he was, rushing straight toward the villain!" said one wide-eyed civilian, clearly still in shock.
Then they shifted to a different witness...
"One moment the villain had all the Pro Heroes in shambles, but this guy in his sleek green armor was all over the villain like child's play!" the civilian said, his voice excited—a clear contrast to the previous witness.
The scene then cut to amateur phone footage, showing the green-armored vigilante in action.
The green-armored figure was leaping across the air, performing feats of acrobatics that made it look like he was "sky jumping." The footage also showed him wielding a gleaming sword, slashing away at the sludge villain with precision...
But the highlight of the video was yet to come.
The green-armored vigilante summoned a swarm of metal locusts out of nowhere, using them to overwhelm the sludge villain. He even grew a pair of bug-like wings made out of metal as he lifted the villain into the sky...
Where he brought down "judgment" with a devastating kick attack, causing an immense explosion that blinded the camera footage and cut the video!
The news reporter's voice returned, describing the scene with a mixture of awe and bewilderment.
"—And there you have it. A mysterious figure with multiple abilities—an acrobat, swordsman, and, as seen in the footage, capable of summoning a swarm of metallic insects. This vigilante single-handedly neutralized the villain with a final attack that caused a massive explosion, leaving a crater in the middle of the ruined district...! Truly, an astonishing yet bizarre feat. What we are witnessing seems almost impossible, raising more questions than answers—"
The feed then switched to a captured amateur photo of the vigilante, cradling the female hostage of the sludge villain in his arms, carefully carrying her to safety.
"Katsuki..." Izuku muttered, recognizing the weakened form of his childhood friend.
The image then zoomed in on the green-armored figure's head, capturing the helmed visage of the mysterious figure. His visor, shaped like red bug-eyes, glowed with a deep, ethereal light, adding to his enigmatic presence...
"There is no known data on this green armored hero," the news reporter's voice cut in. "Neither any Hero Agency nor any government records can identify him, thus making this mysterious figure a 'vigilante' in the eyes of the law. Authorities have issued a search warrant for both his whereabouts and his arrest. More on this story after the break—"
Izuku sighed upon hearing the news, "... there goes my secrecy..."
He put down his smartphone and just... stared ahead as he walked aimlessly, his face full of uncertainty as he thought about what to do next—
"I'M HERE!!!"
"Whoah!?"
The mighty, muscular figure of the No.1 Hero suddenly burst onto the scene from the intersection of the suburban block! He skidded a little, kicking up dust as he came to a dramatic stop, standing proudly in front of the green-haired high schooler.
"All Might...?!" Izuku muttered, taken aback by his sudden appearance. But as soon as the shock faded, he quickly realized the reason for his arrival. "... is there something I can help you with?"
"HAHAHA! Don't be so alarmed, young man! I'm here only to—Koff!"
"Whoah! Hey!?"
All Might suddenly spurted blood from his mouth! A puff of smoke followed, and his once-mighty figure deflated into the frail, skeletal form Izuku had grown accustomed to seeing.
"... You okay, man?" Izuku asked, his voice laced with concern for the man he'd idolized since childhood.
"Cough, cough... Haha... yeah, I'm fine, young man... t-thank you for asking..." All Might tried to reassure him, but the blood pouring out from his mouth like a waterfall wasn't exactly convincing.
After a few moments, All Might finally recovered his composure, standing up a little straighter in front of Izuku. Clearing his throat, he took a deep breath before speaking again.
"Sorry for making you worry and all. As I was saying..." He looked Izuku straight in the eyes, his tone now serious. "... don't be alarmed. I just want to talk a bit... about that 'Kamen Rider' stunt of yours."
Izuku froze, trying his hardest to maintain a poker face. But the moment All Might mentioned 'Kamen Rider,' he flinched—just a little. Still... he fought to keep himself composed.
It wasn't easy on his part though. Even though the man before him was far from his peak form, All Might still had a presence that Izuku couldn't ignore...
After a long moment of silence, Izuku let out a sigh, his shoulders slumping in defeat. He couldn't keep up the act any longer. The intense staring contest between the two had finally worn him down.
"Oh well... I guess the cover's blown, huh?"
"Young man..."
Izuku glanced back at All Might, still trying to act nonchalant, despite the intense scrutiny from the former No.1 Hero.
"Yup, Nice to meet you, All Might. I am... THE Kamen Rider."

Though ngl, the next few chapters are just boring explanation...
