Bab 52: The Medical Division

"We'd like to invite you to join the High School's Medical Team," Shoko Ieiri stepped forward and said seriously.

"You know, there are very few people who can use Reverse Cursed Technique. In fact, I'm the only one in the entire High School..."

She paused, glancing at Satoru Gojo with an expression that was hard to read—

The kind of look you'd give to trash.

"Idiots like Gojo, with their blindfolds and half-baked skills, can only heal themselves. Totally useless. But now, we finally have you."

Shoko Ieiri looked expectantly at Minamoto Sojun.

"So, what do you think? Interested in joining us?"

Medical practitioners proficient in Reverse Cursed Technique were extraordinarily rare. Currently, most injuries among sorcerers were treated using conventional medical methods, which were not only time-consuming but often left lasting aftereffects. They were far less efficient than the Reverse Cursed Technique.

Even so, her workload was still overwhelming, and it had been steadily increasing. The constant overtime was becoming unbearable. Now that she'd found a promising candidate, she was determined to bring him on board.

Shoko Ieiri had come with great resolve. She looked at Minamoto Sojun again and asked, "So, what do you say? Want to join us?"

"Who exactly do you mean by 'us'?" Minamoto Sojun replied with a question instead of answering.

If it was just the people in front of him, he'd be happy to join; after all, he'd already considered it. But if it involved the higher-ups, he wouldn't let them have their way so easily.

It wasn't that he wanted something specific. It was just that the easier something was to obtain, the more likely it was to be taken lightly. He intended to keep them hanging for a while, at least until they valued him enough, before joining the Medical Division.

He needed to maintain control over the situation.

"Let's talk while we walk."

Minamoto Sojun wasn't in a hurry and began walking toward the dormitory.

The three exchanged glances and reluctantly followed.

Suguru Geto quickened his pace to walk on Minamoto Sojun's left, while Shoko Ieiri matched his right. Satoru Gojo shrugged and walked beside Suguru Geto.

The four walked side by side.

"Haha, during the Star Plasma Vessel mission, you were really enthusiastic about healing," Suguru Geto laughed. "When Riko Amanai's face started growing those tentacles, it scared us out of our wits. But she recovered quickly, as expected."

"Even back then, I thought your medical skills were remarkable," Suguru Geto praised.

"Haha, not joining the Medical Division would be a waste."

His real intentions were finally clear.

Shoko Ieiri and Satoru Gojo chimed in enthusiastically.

Minamoto Sojun remained unmoved, no matter how eloquent their arguments were.

After they returned to his dorm, he brewed tea for everyone. Despite their lengthy persuasion, they failed to convince him and eventually left.

Minamoto Sojun's stance remained firm: they were welcome, but he disliked the people they represented.

"Why did you refuse? You're interested in this, aren't you?" After they left, Shizuko Mishima approached him and whispered.

"I am interested, and I don't mind joining the Medical Division. But the higher-ups are synonymous with trouble."

Shizuko Mishima nodded knowingly.

I understand. You hate trouble.

The trio continued visiting him over the next few days, trying to convince him.

Apart from Shoko Ieiri, who was more eager, the other two seemed indifferent, often using their persuasion attempts as an excuse to spar with Minamoto Sojun.

Minamoto Sojun didn't mind this at all.

Only Shoko Ieiri was truly annoyed, deeply annoyed.

She punched Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto once each, then cast a glance at another person—

You're really impossible to deal with!

She was venting her frustrations indirectly.

It wasn't Minamoto Sojun's stubbornness that was the problem but rather the higher-ups' shortsightedness. In a place like the Jujutsu world, where balance was key, you had to give something to get something.

Equivalent exchange—how could they not understand that?

Minamoto Sojun had already deduced that the one behind this was Tengen. The higher-ups merely followed his lead.

Reverse Cursed Techniques were rare, and the ability to heal souls with one was even rarer.

The trio was merely acting as messengers.

After several days of fruitless discussions—

Principal Masamichi Yaga visited. Looking helpless, he handed over a dossier.

"These are the terms from the higher-ups. Take a look. If they're acceptable, join us. If not, feel free to refuse. Don't worry about my position."

Minamoto Sojun raised an eyebrow and opened the dossier. The first item was: The cursed tools left behind by Toji Fushiguro will no longer be reclaimed by Jujutsu High...

He closed the dossier without reading further.

If they weren't serious about negotiating, there was no point.

Masamichi Yaga didn't argue. He simply took the dossier and left.

The arrogance of the higher-ups was almost admirable in its ignorance.

Minamoto Sojun decided to put the matter aside. He had plenty of his own tasks to handle and no interest in dealing with the higher-ups.

He sought out Yuki Tsukumo and asked her to enhance the mass of his eye for the fourth time.

Yuki Tsukumo used her technique, depleting her cursed energy again. She touched the eye lightly and said pointedly, "It seems like it's reaching its limit, doesn't it?"

Minamoto Sojun inserted the eye back into its socket, adjusting to the heavy Six-Nation Power. He nodded. "Yes, it is."

Frowning in concentration, he asked, "When do you plan to leave Jujutsu High?"

"In a few days. I have some things to take care of. Why?"

"Nothing important," Minamoto Sojun replied, as his other clones ventured out for high-intensity exorcisms.

Soon, it wouldn't be a limit anymore.

There were still a few days left; it should be enough.

The next day—

Minamoto Sojun approached Yuki Tsukumo again, holding the eye in his palm and presenting it to her.

Few people could handle it now.

"Already ready again?" Yuki Tsukumo touched the eye, finding the fullness from the day before had dissipated.

She used her technique to enhance its mass again, completely depleting her cursed energy. The fullness returned.

Yuki Tsukumo frowned briefly before smoothing her expression. She looked at Minamoto Sojun and said, "Don't tell me you want me to do this two hundred more times?!"

"Of course not. Just a few more times," Minamoto Sojun quickly reassured her, sensing her regret.

"It's not that I can't do it. It's just... so repetitive that it's boring," Yuki Tsukumo explained casually.

Sure, I get it, Minamoto Sojun thought, nodding.

Over the following days, Minamoto Sojun avoided staying in his dorm.

Every day, he visited Yuki Tsukumo at Jujutsu High to request her help increasing the eye's mass. The rest of the time, he exorcised curses and assimilated their energy.

Jujutsu High sent people to find him several times, but they never caught him.

Yuki Tsukumo was the first to lose patience.

After the seventh enhancement, she started avoiding Minamoto Sojun, forcing him to go through extra trouble to find her. By the ninth enhancement, she had already left Jujutsu High.

She departed while Minamoto Sojun was still out exorcising curses. He learned about her departure through a text message.

In the message, Yuki Tsukumo explained that she had urgent matters to attend to and had to leave. She promised to remember the favor and repay it someday. She also emphasized that she could easily handle two hundred enhancements but was simply too busy.

The more someone emphasizes something, the less likely it is to be true.

Since she was already gone, Minamoto Sojun didn't mind. He hadn't lied to her—the eye was indeed at its current limit. Further enhancements would do more harm than good.

Deep within Jujutsu High—

"He's not here," a suited staff member bowed respectfully.

In front of him were several traditional Japanese sliding doors, some of which concealed shadowy figures behind them.

Bang!

The sound of a desk being slammed echoed.

"When did we start letting just anyone lead us by the nose?" an old voice, filled with dissatisfaction, growled.

"Soul-healing Reverse Cursed Techniques are exceptionally rare," another voice, slightly younger but still aged, countered with indifference.

"People like him are always useful someday."

"He's not just 'anyone.' Even Master Tengen speaks highly of him," said another, emphasizing the title "Master."

"Hah! In this place, if he's not just anyone, what is he?!" the indifferent voice chuckled softly.
