Since there was nothing that required them to take a detour, Theodore decided to take the front path that they hadn't taken before.
However, one problem that now arises is that Theodore doesn't hear any sound from the direction of their apartment.
Believe me, the silence during a zombie apocalypse like this is more terrifying than the sound of chaos from a distance.
Honestly, Theodore would rather face the crowd of zombies in front of his eyes than to have to guess what they would encounter in this silent atmosphere.
"Big brother, why is there no sound?" asked Geoffrey when they were already in the vicinity of their apartment complex.
"Is something wrong?" Roxanne joined in when she heard Geoffrey's words.
"I don't know, but I have a bad feeling about this." Theodore also did not know what would happen, since he did not know what happened in city A because he was not here in his previous life.
"But, we have to go back to the apartment. There's no way we're going to spend the night on the street like this?" Geoffrey looked at Theodore innocently.
Theodore shook his head as he heard what Geoffrey said which was also true, but it was not that easy for them to return to the apartment.
"You still have the flashlight I gave you earlier?" Theodore chose to ignore Geoffrey's previous question.
Geoffrey nodded his head and took out the flashlight from his jacket pocket.
"Very good, give that flashlight to your brother. Then, you help me kill the zombies." Theodore began to give his instructions to the two of them.
Roxanne innocently took the flashlight from Geoffrey, then looked at Theodore in confusion, not knowing what to do at the moment.
"The situation here is different from the streets around the restaurant. There's no light at all here, so I need you for that," Theodore explained later.
Hearing that Roxanne finally nodded her head in understanding, and held Geoffrey's flashlight tightly.
"And you Geoffrey, protect me from behind and take care of your sister." After that Theodore raised his sword again and prepared to walk forward.
With that Theodore led the way towards their apartment building and on the way they could see the chaos that was happening there.
There were many corpses lying on the streets around the place and the surrounding buildings had some destruction.
There weren't many vehicles around because at this time of the day, there wouldn't be anyone on the streets that the apartment tenants used.
And that made it easier for Theodore and the others to get closer to their apartment building. Their apartment complex had quite a few buildings around this neighborhood, so it wasn't too easy for them to return to the building.
"It's really very suspicious. Big brother, the atmosphere here is very strange," Geoffrey whispered with his hand tightly holding the baseball bat.
"I feel the same way. Look around carefully," Theodore replied while advising Geoffrey.
"Don't worry, big brother!" Geoffrey nodded his head vigorously.
From a distance Theodore could see the glass lobby that he had smashed earlier, so he walked over to see what was going on there.
Unlike before where the lobby was full of chaos, it could now be seen that it was very quiet and there was nothing in sight.
"I'll try to get inside. You guys stay behind me," Theodore said as he picked up his own flashlight.
Without letting down his guard Theodore held the flashlight in his left hand and his right hand kept his sword raised vigilantly.
While behind Roxanne also helped Theodore by illuminating other parts of the building that were not covered by Theodore.
They walked slowly through the spacious lobby, heading towards the fire escape which was fortunately not far away.
So far nothing had happened and Theodore did not stop and headed straight for the fire escape.
"Geoffrey help me open the door, on the count of three open the door, do you understand?" Theodore looked at Geoffrey seriously.
"Okay, big brother!" Geoffrey nodded his head.
"One ...."
"Two ...."
Theodore nodded his head at Geoffrey, "Three! Now."
Geoffrey quickly did as Theodore instructed, he opened the door to the fire escape.
Without waiting long, Theodore pointed the flashlight he was holding towards the fire escape and was immediately greeted with the face of a destroyed zombie.
Theodore was honestly shocked by the appearance that appeared in front of him. With a quick reflex Theodore threw the flashlight in his hand at the zombie.
Then, following up by swinging the sword in his hand, Theodore immediately managed to behead the zombie.
But not only that, about three other zombies quickly came out from the direction of the emergency stairs and lunged towards Theodore.
Theodore was ready with his attack and easily knocked them down. Meanwhile, Roxanne and Geoffrey, who were at Theodore's side, could only be stunned by what happened.
"Are they gone, big brother?" Geoffrey finally spoke up.
"I think so," Theodore replied and then ventured through the door that led to the fire escape.
Following behind Theodore was Roxanne who was still faithfully holding her flashlight.
Without Theodore asking Roxanne to walk behind him to illuminate the path in front of them.
And Geoffrey was the last person to pass through the door. Still led by Theodore, he walked slowly up the stairs to their apartment floor.
It just took a long time for them to reach the 15th floor where their apartment was located.
Currently Theodore thought that there were quite a lot of zombies in this emergency staircase. For this reason, Theodore had to be prepared to deal with zombies that could come to him suddenly like before.
"Roxanne, move next to me. I need you to point the flashlight upstairs." Theodore called Roxanne to walk beside him.
"Is it okay?" Roxanne asked because she was afraid that she would be ambushed by zombies if she got too close to Theodore.
"Take it easy, I'll protect you." Theodore nodded his head confidently.
Although still hesitant, Roxanne still did what Theodore told her to do.
After Roxanne shifted position, it was easier for Theodore to move and they quickly climbed the fire escape without any problems.
Fortunately they moved slowly and orderly, so they didn't attract any unnecessary attention from anything or anyone behind the doors on each floor they passed.
It was only when they set foot on the 13th floor that there was a commotion that made them freeze and rethink about continuing their steps.
