Yuki carried her sister over to Mei Mei, who was fully recovered from her lack of stamina. Knowing that Mei Mei was a healer, she hoped that there was something that she could do.
"Mei Mei! Please help my sister! I beg of you!" Yuki cried and hugged her sister tight.
Mei Mei looked at Ria, whose body was almost completely destroyed. All her wounds were frozen over and blood wasn't flowing anymore. However, it wasn't a good sign either, as her body temperature was dropping at an alarming rate.
"I'm sorry, Yuki. But I don't know how to help her." Mei Mei said, lowering her head in shame.
Yuki nodded, not surprised at her answer. She was only seeking a little sliver of hope. But even that little sliver was just too much to ask for.
"Huang Ran... Is there anything that you can do?" Yuki asked, looking at him with a hopeful expression.
Huang Ran shook his head sadly.
"I'm sorry... Even I have limits of my abilities." He said, his voice filled with regret.
"I'm sorry, Yuki. We should've been faster..." Mei Mei said, trying to console Yuki.
"No... It's not your fault. You all did your best..." Yuki said weakly, looking at the ground.
No one spoke at this moment, and let Yuki grieve silently. Huang Ran was feeling extremely guilty at this moment. Even though it wasn't his fault that Yuki's sister got attacked, seeing her cry like this was really painful for him.
"Yuki... If you want, we can at least give her a proper funeral." Huang Ran said softly, breaking the silence.
"No!" Yuki suddenly shouted, startling everyone present. "I refuse to bury her!"
"Yuki..." Mei Mei called out, trying to calm her down.
"I won't let her die! There must be something we can do!" Yuki said desperately, hugging her sister tighter.
Everyone was shocked at Yuki's stubbornness.
"Even if there's something we could do, it's too late now." Huang Ran said gravely. "Besides, I doubt you'll ever forgive yourself for doing it."
Yuki just kept crying and shaking her head furiously. Mei Mei was getting worried. If Yuki keeps this up, she might kill herself with guilt.
"Listen, Yuki... There is a so-called legend." Mei Mei started to talk slowly. "But it's not proven yet."
"What is it?" Yuki asked, looking at Mei Mei. She wanted to grab onto any hanging strings.
"There's a rumor that once you reach level 100, you gain the innate ability to resurrect the dead. Though, this is only a legend as only ten people in history have made it to level 90, let alone level 100." Mei Mei said, staring up at the bright moon that was shining down light.
"It's said that once you reach level 100, you can ascend to godhood." Mei Mei continued.
"Mei Mei, these aren't proven and are highly unlikely to be true." Huang Ran said in an exasperated tone. "Giving one hope brings light, but to give one false hope also brings light, but only to be swallowed by a bigger darkness."
Saying this, he turned to look at Yuki.
"Death is inevitable for everyone Yuki, including me." Huang Ran continued.
"So? That doesn't mean I can't try!" Yuki replied, determined to save her sister. Her eye's were cold and a slight change in her temperament started to happen slowly.
Because of the mass amount of negativity in Yuki's mind, her mental powers started to increase rapidly, making her undergo many level ups!
Level 14... Level 15... Level 18!
Ardor Huo who was resting felt the surge of Kongli in Yuki's body and couldn't help but gasp lightly. He walked over to the group and was about to say something, but Mei Mei shot him a glare and gestured for him to be silent. Ardor Huo nodded, understanding that it was better to let Yuki grieve peacefully. But to level up so many times... He finally understood why power was easier to achieve back 300 years ago.
'Those who're in the face of death and desperation get stronger, huh? Should I go head first into the Abyss?' Ardor thought, but quickly cut off his thoughts thinking about that shitty man in black.
The power he had could kill him in seconds.
Yuki, who gradually came back to her senses, looked at her sister who was in her arms and stood up and walked to her house. The other's didn't stop her, and allowed her to leave on her own.
With heavy steps, Yuki walked through the burn down village that smelt like burnt ash and corpses, and even through her tears she could smell the scent of death in the air. When she arrived at her house, she laid her sister down onto the ground and sat next to her. Her wounds were still frozen, but she was as pale as a corpse. Yuki didn't know what to do anymore. She felt helpless, miserable, and angry. But at the same time, she felt nothing at all. It was like all the emotions in her heart disappeared, leaving behind a cold void in their place.
"Sister... I'm sorry... If only I was there earlier..." Yuki said softly, crying once again.
Suddenly, Ria's eyelids fluttered open.
"Yuki..." Ria whispered weakly.
"Sister! You're awake!" Yuki exclaimed, joy filling her heart, but evaporated instantly.
"Yuki.. You should know by now-"
"Shh. Don't talk anymore sister. Save your strength." Yuki interrupted her, knowing what she was going to say.
"Yuki..." Ria continued, ignoring her advice. "I know... that I will die soon... But before I leave... In the house under my bed, there is something for you."
"Sister, don't say such things! I will heal you! I promise!" Yuki shouted, tears running down her face.
"No matter what... Yuki... Take care of yourself..." Ria said as her eyelids closed.
"Sister?!" Yuki cried, her heart racing madly.
"Goodbye... Yuki..." Ria said softly, as her heart stopped beating.
The world seemed to be quiet, even the wind was frozen as Yuki sat on the ground, feeling lifeless. She lost everything once again, and now she was all alone in this cruel world. There will be no more Ria's hugs or smiles anymore... She couldn't bear the pain of losing someone precious to her anymore.
"Sister..." Yuki said weakly, and decided to bury her in the back of their home, and then take her sister's last words seriously.
