Bab 83: Return to the Present (1)
" So that's the story, the part where you killed the monster which head you just brought to me, just now... " Kara says, as she remembers the severed head that Ragna just carried to her, right after meeting her.
" Yes, the Balor was quite a problem since most of us had no sufficient strength against that one hell of a monster... "
" Damn the battle only left a handful of us which I then left them to guard some section we've acquired and then came here as I sensed your presence. " Ragna says, explaining the whole story on how in the actual hell he even survived many waves of monsters with his team that logically, should've been all dead, judging from their levels of power.
" Despite my Low Rank, perhaps I overdid my qualifications when slaying the Priestess back then... " Ragna refers to the event where he fights the Battle Maiden and kills the infested Priestess.
Hearing that, Inquisitor Kara begins to realize that Ragna seems to have more than he had shown or told, for her senses also pick up something different from Ragna which she states.
"( Back in the Hunter hospital back then, the power that I sense from him was very faint as if his power was only a sip of a Gifted portion from the gods Divine Power.)"
"( The next time I met him, was during my fight with Ripper Jack outside the Ruin Gate where I see it with my own eyes that he killed the Ripper on his own.... )"
"( And the last thing I had noticed.... )"
"( Before even entering this Tower, this boy somehow shows that he is almost on par with the Battle Maiden, the Divine Avatar of Athena, one of the humans Gifted with a Tier 5 Gift Core. )" Kara tries to connect things together for after seeing all of that in the past, she begins to wonder the true nature of Ragna's power which is ridiculous for him to gain for such a short period of time.
The reason why she begins to be wary of him is that she remembers that Ragna was detected to have a Gift Core just months ago, back in the Hunter Hospital which back then she labeled Ragna as a 'Late Bloomer' for she thinks that Ragna only manifested his Divine Gifts late like some people in this world.
However, despite his Gift just being awakened, Ragna shouldn't be powerful like this after just been using his Gifts for months only normally, a person's Gift Core could get stronger after a lot of years of praying and training which is not the case for Ragna here.
That's why Inquisitor Kara now begins to be suspicious of Ragna's growth for she predicts that Ragna's sudden skyrocketed growth may come from something outside his Gift which she then decides to keep that thought away for now and wait for the right time to investigate him while she is being escorted by Ragna to his place.
" Are we there yet, Ragna? " she asks.
" Just a bit, look!!! " Ragna points to the front from there, it can be seen the survivors from Ragna's group are there as they eat the monster's meat.
As the Inquisitor sees that, she then rushes toward them and halts them before they eat the roasted meat from the monsters they've cooked as she asked if the monster's meat is purified or not.
Hearing that, the already hungry Hunters ask the Inquisitor why they should do that, and tells them that the meat smells the same as normal animal meat but then Kara then forbids them from eating it as she immediately cast a Prayer into the meat before the Hunters eat them.
" O Divine Gods, please purify this feast before your servants eat it... " she recites the prayer while adding more prayers to the gods she served as an Inquisitor as from her body, shines a light as her Gift Power shines over the meat as it means that she's successfully purified it.
" What did you do, Inquisitor? " ask one of the Hunters, which is Galen Earson as he becomes the second-in-command in the group.
" I just purified the tainted demonic monster's meat before you lot eat it... " Kara replies.
" Why? I thought that the Demonic Monster's power immediately fates after you kill it? " said another Hunter, Jack West as he tells the Inquisitor the thing he knows and learns from the school back then that taught him many things about the monster, which the Inquisitor had to correct as she adds more to it.
" Yes of course, just as we've been taught from little, we've been taught that the Demonic Monster's power immediately dissipated right after they die... "
" But sadly, the Demonic Taint inside their flesh and veins is still dangerous to be get contacted or contaminated with, since the remained Taints could be unnoticeably converted into viruses, diseases, and plagues. " she adds as she gives them an example about this like the 'Black Death' and the 'Tainted Crown' virus pandemic back then.
After they all hear that very explanation, they all begin to feel disgusted which is probably because some of them already had eaten the cooked meat before purifying it first the Inquisitor Immediately helps by purifying them immediately as they all pray to their gods for mercy while on the other hand.
"( The [Black Death], huh? )" Ragna Twelve suddenly appears in front of Ragna.
"( Twelve? I thought you were asleep in the System Space. )"
"( Nah, I've suddenly awakened after hearing that word the Inquisitor just said right now. )" Twelve says, explaining what he knows about it to Ragna.
"( Wait, the [Black Death] did not come from the Deviants? )" Ragna asks Twelve as he explains that the pandemic plague actually came from the reverse, as he told Ragna the Diviners are the culprit for the event, just like in the Previous Timeline.
"( Just like the previous Timelines, the Diviners also teach the humans that the meat of the dead Demons is not impure, only to tell them later of its impurity right after the pandemic happens... )" Twelve says as he also tells Ragna the Black Death event in every Timelines he visits before the Current Timeline of our story.
"( I see, so it means that the Diviners are also responsible for the [Tainted Crown] virus last year? )" Ragna asks.
"( No..., for that, I didn't know for sure for that pandemic doesn't happen in the previous Timelines... )"
"( But still, it could be their fault also... )" Twelve says to Ragna while both of them discuss as the hunters and the inquisitor finishes their prayer.
"( You should pray, Ragna... )"
"( To the Creator.... )" Twelve says reminding Ragna who should he pray to as Ragna then prayed for survival inside this Tower.
