"Even though by H.U.G.S regulations, nobody is allowed to prevent an adult from becoming a professional explorer... But this trade is really not for everyone." Ms. Lee slowly spoke. She seemed to be carefully choosing her words, trying her best not to hurt Jake's self-esteem.
By the looks of it, she probably saw Jake as a high school graduate eager to prove himself.
"If you'd like, we can still change your professional explorer application to a tourist application. It's an easy process. There's no trouble at all."
"Maybe it's better to take a look inside the realm first."
Jake looked at Ms. Lee in the eye, and firmly shook his head.
"It's alright. Don't worry about me. I know what I'm doing." Jake then gave his instructor an affirmative nod.
Who's he kidding. There was a variety of restrictions to the tourist license. A license like that was practically useless to Jake.
Changing from tourist status to professional explorer status would also take some work. Nope. Seemed a little too complicated and troublesome. Not interested.
"Very well Mr. Collins... During our one week of classes, we'll go over the dangers in the magical realms. If you'd like to change your mind, please have a talk with me."
"Yep. Thank you." Jake nodded.
Snap. A quick photo.
"Next up, we have..."
After taking a stack of application papers, Jake walked down the stage.
None of the other registrants seemed interested in talking to him.
Jake didn't know anyone here anyways, so he was not interested in seeing the rest of the ceremony.
Walking towards the exit, Jake lightly knitted his brows. The brat in golden jacket was waiting by the door.
Yep. Ben Cox, the son of the guildmaster had returned.
After Ben had left with his gang, the more he thought of Jake, the angrier he got.
As the only son of the guildmaster, who here in this guild didn't take him seriously? Ok. Maybe the majority of the explorers didn't.
After all, in the world of explorers, power reigned supreme!
As someone only capable of lighter flames... yep.
But at least they pretended to respect him!
Finally, a detector joined the guild as a professional explorer. As someone with elemental affinity, Ben had to be at least stronger than a detector right? A weak detector had to be genuinely respecting him right?
After all, in the world... yep. That's the idea.
At least that's what Ben expected. As a result, he was eagerly looking forward to the encounter.
'Oh.'
'Not interested.'
'Sure. Whatever makes you happy.'
Seeing Jake's careless reply, Ben felt something snap. That was the last straw. Jake's careless attitude felt like the last critical strike to his fragile self-esteem.
Without further thought, Ben returned for round two.
"Don't worry about me. I know what I'm doing." Ben copied Jake's words with an exaggerated tone.
Seeing the brat's mocking act, Jake lightly knitted his brows further.
'There's no end to this guy...'
Even as a laid-back person, Jake was starting to feel agitated.
"What. You think you are too cool to talk to me?"
Jake sighed.
'Hollywood. Bollywood. D!404#+ (Lawsuit Warning)...'
'Anime. K-drama. Blizzard...'
'K-Pop. Classic Rock. Riot...'
'X-box, Play Station, steam...'
'Since when are these not entertaining anymore? And yet you choose to mess with me. Just how bored do you have to be?'
Listening to the brat's rant, Jake sighed and nodded, accepting the situation.
'Looks like this guy is going to stick around for a while.'
Jake's gaze towards the brat slowly turned cold.
After all, he was just an explorer, not a saint.
In the background, a round of applause started. There were many rows of empty seats between Jake and the audience after all. Those guys didn't seem to be paying attention to event over here.
Jake didn't have the motivation to throw any words back at the brat. Felt like a waste of time. He's got better things to do.
'Can't do it here.' Jake took a look at the audience behind him.
This was uncle Chad's guild after all. Jake didn't want to hurt the guild's public images. There were clients in the audience.
'How troublesome... In this case, I'll deal with these guys in the realm.'
After making a final decision, Jake felt a bit more relaxed. Without hesitation, Jake moved forward, planning to just walk past these guys.
"So what. Try to walk away?"
Ding!

"Oh? Or what. With your lighter flame, you'll light up a cigar for me? I don't smoke though. So I'll pass."
"You are mocking me?" Ben Cox looked at Jake with disbelief. "You! A detector! Dare. Dare."

Jake sighed and shook his head. "look, I think you can be more confident with your feelings. You can confidently change the question tone to a definitive tone."

'Oh boy. This kid wouldn't have mental problems right?' Jake suddenly felt ashamed for himself for 0.05 seconds.
"What's up with that look on your face!" The brat shouted.
[ +10 Anger Points]
"Life is tough. Be strong." Jake gave the kid an encouraging nod.
Hearing these words, seeing the genuine pity in Jake's eyes, the brat felt even more insulted.
"You- You!"

Turning a look behind him, the audience seemed to be watching the show in this direction now.
Chatting and chuckling could be heard in this auditorium.
Ben Cox also noticed this. By the looks of it, he didn't have the courage to attack Jake.
After all, doing that in front of H.U.G.S officials was like committing assault in front of police. Not the best idea.
"Don't let me catch you alone in realm!" Leaving this threat, Ben Cox left for the door.
A glint flashed by in the brat's eyes. He seemed to be looking forward to that day.
"Oh." Jake nodded.
'Hope to bump into you soon.' Jake added in his mind.

'Looks like this system is not very intelligent at all...'
'Maybe there's a loophole I can exploit...'
