Those who heard the leader's words earlier felt terrified, as they thought that the terrifying beast might have started to follow them right now due to the momentary stop earlier. 

From what the bandit's know, the Volcanic Wyrm was an extremely territorial beast that would hunt even the smallest animal that dared to linger on its large territory. It was also extremely sensitive to the earth's movement and could easily locate the intruders and ambush them from the ground. 

The reason why the leader did not dare to confront it was due to the Volcanic Wyrm's extreme and cruel behavior. The only way to avoid its pursuit when one entered its territory was to get out of it as quickly as possible.
