My mind raced, trying to process what I’d just heard. Eason? Endorsing our products? It didn’t make any sense. He had been adamant about not working with us, and now, out of the blue, he’d changed his mind?

Dread settled in the pit of my stomach. I knew Eason too well—this wasn’t a change of heart. This was something calculated, something much worse. And after the way he’d cornered me last night, I had a peculiar feeling that I was at the center of whatever game he was playing.

I didn’t even bother sitting down at my desk. The urgency to confront him, to figure out what the hell he was up to, propelled me out of the office before I could think twice. My heart pounded as I hurried down the stairs and out of the building, a mix of dread and determination fueling my every step.
