I barely made it.
The full moon was already peeking over the horizon as I fumbled with my keys, my hands trembling with urgency. The chickens clucked nervously from their crate and the rabbits shifted uneasily in their cages, sensing the tension in the air.
“Come on, come on,” I muttered to myself, finally managing to unlock the front door. I shoved it open with my shoulder and practically threw myself inside, dragging the crates behind me. My heart pounded in my chest as I slammed the door shut, the sound echoing through the empty house.
I had to hurry. The wolf inside me was restless, clawing at the edges of my mind, eager to break free. If I didn’t get to the basement in time, I’d be caught out in the open, exposed to anyone who happened to glance through the windows.
