The roar of a fire dragon suddenly erupted, tearing through the peaceful night sky of Hogwarts.
"Hagrid!"
Harry shouted, and immediately jumped on his broomstick and flew out.
"Gryffindors…"
Wade sighed helplessly.
Hagrid had just entered the Forbidden Forest and was at least a mile away from where the fire had appeared, so there was no real danger.
Wade also mounted his broomstick and darted into the Forbidden Forest, gaining altitude and weaving through the black treetops with his sharp eyesight.
Ahead, Hagrid was running wildly toward the direction of the fire, clutching a barrel and shouting "Norbert!" His hound followed closely behind. Seeing that Hagrid was unharmed, Harry had already flown ahead towards the fire dragon.
They moved quickly, and soon arrived near a cave. Wade saw Harry standing pale-faced to the side, while Norbert, as big as a house, lay on the ground. Enormous, gruesome wounds marred his eyes and chest, with bright red blood gushing out.
"Norbert—"
Hagrid cried out in anguish and rushed over to hold his dragon baby. He trembled as he checked if it was still breathing.
A few fading sparks sputtered from Norbert's nose.
"Don't be afraid, my sweet baby… Mama will heal you right away—"
Hagrid's hands shook as he fumbled through his pockets for healing potions.
Wade remained airborne, warily scanning the surroundings. The black forest was eerily quiet. The dragon's roar had silenced all other sounds, leaving only the wind, Hagrid's wailing, and the crackling of dry branches burning in the fire.
Wade fired two red sparks into the sky as a signal and set up detection spells around the area before landing.
Hagrid was pouring White Moss Essence onto Norbert's wounds, but the blood flowed out like a broken dam, quickly washing away the potion.
"These wounds were caused by dark magic. Ordinary healing potions won't work."
Wade spoke, pointing his wand at Norbert's wound and softly chanting the counter-curse—thankfully, he had just learned it from Remus a couple of days earlier. After about half a minute, the bleeding finally stopped.
Hagrid looked on anxiously and only then dared to ask, "Is he okay now?"
"No," Wade replied. "This is as much as I can do. You'll need to find someone more specialized for the rest. But at least… his life should be saved."
"Thank you, Wade... thank you so much!" Hagrid sobbed, tears streaming down his face. "If Norbert had died, it would have felt like my heart was ripped out."
He clutched the Norwegian Ridgeback's fierce-looking head tightly. The dragon weakly opened its eyes and looked at Hagrid, who was crying uncontrollably, while hot air puffed out from its nose.
"What happened here?" A cold, seemingly furious voice sounded nearby, causing Harry's face to turn pale.
Snape, dressed in a black robe, emerged from the darkness, his gaze was so intense it felt as though he wanted to drain the blood from everyone. His black robe billowed behind him like storm clouds, making it seem as if he had flown there rather than run.
Immediately afterward, a tabby cat leapt down from a tree branch, transforming mid-air into Professor McGonagall in her nightgown. She took one look at the scene and let out a shocked cry, "An injured dragon! What on earth happened?"
Harry didn't have time to respond before someone else arrived—Professor Quirrell came stumbling through the trees, clutching his scarf, followed by a flash of fire, from which Dumbledore suddenly appeared.
In a daze, Harry felt this scene was eerily similar to Halloween, except Professor Flitwick was missing, replaced by Dumbledore.
But...
Harry trembled slightly and instinctively took two steps closer to Hagrid.
"Someone hurt Norbert, Dumbledore!" Hagrid cried, pulling out a giant handkerchief to wipe his tears, his voice trembling. "Please save him! The poor lad is badly injured!"
Dumbledore bent down to examine Norbert. The wound's dark magic origin was clear, but the edges of the injury showed signs of closing. Dumbledore was briefly surprised, quickly realizing who among the three present had the skill to do this.
"A fine piece of dark magic counter-curse, Mr. Grey," Dumbledore praised.
Wade nodded slightly without speaking.
"Don't worry, Hagrid," Dumbledore said gently. "Madam Pomfrey will heal him. Minerva, could you arrange for a more suitable place for the poor creature?"
"—Understood."
Professor McGonagall was sternly glaring at the two students, but upon hearing Dumbledore's instructions, she withdrew her gaze and used a Levitation Charm to carry Norbert away.
"Careful, Professor McGonagall," Hagrid couldn't help but remind her, "He's still just a baby! It's all my fault for not taking good care of him..."
"Private dragon ownership is forbidden," Snape said with a sinister tone from the side, "Hagrid, I thought you knew that."
Hagrid bit his lip, looking pitiful despite his large frame.
"We'll discuss that later," Dumbledore said calmly. "Harry, Wade, why are you two here? Leaving the castle at night and coming to the dangerous Forbidden Forest is not a wise decision."
"I couldn't sleep, so I was just… looking at the stars from the dormitory," Harry suddenly stammered. "Then I saw Hagrid walking into the Forbidden Forest… and later I heard the dragon's roar and saw the fire… I was worried something had happened to Hagrid, so I flew over to check… and Wade came too…"
He left out the fact that they had broken curfew and were flying around the school.
"Did you see what injured the dragon?" Dumbledore asked.
Harry shivered, as if he was still afraid. Wade answered, "No. By the time we arrived, the scene was already like this."
Dumbledore nodded, and looked at the pool of blood on the ground, deep in thought. Everyone else held their breath, waiting in silence.
Suddenly, the sound of hoofbeats echoed from inside the cave and a pure, radiant creature limped out. It glowed faintly, its long legs were injured, and silver-white blood was dripping from its body.
"Merlin's beard!" Hagrid gasped. "Someone dared to hurt a unicorn!"
The unicorn knelt slightly before Dumbledore, then leaned against Hagrid, as if seeking his help.
Dumbledore used a spell to heal the unicorn's wounds and said to Hagrid, "Take it to Madam Pomfrey as well. And bring Wade and Harry along—I think they could use a calming draught."
Hagrid nodded, scooping up the unicorn without hesitation. He called out, "Come along, kids—thank you for worrying about me. But I must say—this was incredibly dangerous, truly very dangerous. Don't go wandering around next time."
Harry mumbled his agreement. As he glanced back, he saw Snape frowning, clearly wanting to oppose Dumbledore's lenient approach.
But Dumbledore said, "Severus, Quirinus, may I ask you both to patrol the perimeter of the Forbidden Forest tonight? The one who injured the dragon may still be lurking nearby… Of course, for safety, you'd best not split up."
The dense forest soon obscured Harry's view.
