Wade immobilized everything in the room and stepped cautiously into the chaotic classroom, careful to avoid the areas contaminated by the dungbombs.
He then returned the cockroach and spiders to their original size, watching as the helpful insects quickly scurried into the cracks of the walls.
Looking around, Wade noticed that some students were even giving him grateful looks.
For a moment, Wade was speechless.
Glancing at the floor, walls, and the students—especially Malfoy—there were remnants of dungbombs everywhere. Broken glass shards emitted green smoke, and something corrosive on the ground was making a hissing sound.
The Slytherins were petrified in various awkward positions—some were crying, faces covered in snot and tears, others were so terrified their eyes were wide and vacant.
Some, for reasons unknown, were covered in horrible, swollen scabs that looked incredibly painful.
Only Daphne, who was curled up in a corner, seemed relatively unharmed, though she was clearly shaken and had some spider webs clinging to her clothes.
Wade couldn't help but think—This is it?
He had expected Malfoy to prepare an elaborate trap, especially after losing last time, and to return with a well-thought-out plan. But it seemed like all they had done was gather a few people to set up an ambush?
Wade compared this to his own preparations. He had readied over a dozen spells, carefully practiced five different combinations, and trained for a long time in the Room of Requirement to ensure he could cast spells quickly and effectively in a real situation.
The Room of Requirement only provided wooden dummies for practice, so Wade had brought in various small insects as sparring partners. The Engorgio spell had become one of his frequently used incantations.
Of course, the giant spiders and cockroaches pushed the limits of his sanity—even he couldn't stand them. Usually, he trained with emerald-green mantises, equipped with two large scythes.
At this moment, to Wade, it felt as though he had barely greeted his opponents, and they had already crumpled to the ground, wailing in exaggerated pain like someone faking an injury after a minor accident.
It made all his prior preparations feel a bit excessive.
"Scourgify!" (Cleaning Charm)
Wade waved his wand, and the green liquid and dungbomb residue vanished, though the foul smell lingered. Then, he summoned all their wands with a Summoning Charm before lifting the Petrificus Totalus spell.
The classroom immediately erupted with loud sobbing and screaming.
"Stop it!" Wade frowned and snapped.
In an instant, all sounds ceased.
Wade walked toward Malfoy. The blonde boy immediately turned pale, frantically pushing himself backward with his feet, screaming, "Y-you… don't come any closer—"
Wade pressed Malfoy's shoulder down with the wands he had collected, crouching slightly as he looked seriously into Malfoy's eyes. "Do you know? If you were truly my enemies, I'd break your wands right now."
Malfoy froze, stunned. After a moment, he stammered, trembling, "You… you can't…"
To a wizard, a wand is almost like a part of their body. Some adult wizards can barely perform even simple spells without their wand.
While a damaged wand can be replaced, the wand that chooses a wizard during their childhood and accompanies them as they grow is usually the most suitable and loyal one.
Most wizards carry their wands with them until the end of their lives, to be buried together in their graves.
It's a companion for life.
In the classroom, someone let out a soft sob.
"Of course, I won't do that." Wade noticed Malfoy sigh with relief and continued,
"But it's not because of who your father is, or who your grandfather is—it has nothing to do with any of that. It's simply because we're classmates, and we should treat each other with respect… wouldn't you agree?"
Malfoy: "…"
—Look at the bumps on my skin, smell the stench on me. Do you know that spider nearly ate me just now? Do you know what it feels like to be grabbed by spider legs? And you call this respect?
"…Yes," Malfoy muttered quietly, lowering his head.
"Thank you. I'm glad you understand—after all, I just want to study in peace and avoid causing trouble."
Wade thought about patting Malfoy on the shoulder, but then remembered the dungbombs that had covered everyone earlier. He raised his hand but then lowered it again.
Malfoy, watching Wade's movements, felt his heart racing, alternating between pounding and tightening, his chest beginning to ache. Hearing Wade's words, he was on the verge of tears.
—This guy, who's like a demon, is this really the Ravenclaw I know? Who here is the real Slytherin?
"And one more thing, can I ask that you stop bullying my friends from now on? And quit using these underhanded tricks… otherwise, I'll get very—very—angry! I'm the kind of person who always settles scores," Wade said sincerely.
"If you think you can ignore my warning, then you'd better come and defeat me first—because I'm always open to any fair and honest challenges."
Seeing Malfoy staring blankly at him without any reaction, and no one else responding either, Wade started to feel a bit awkward talking to himself. He placed the Slytherins' wands down and turned to leave. Just as he was about to step out of the door, he suddenly turned back.
Malfoy, who had just picked up his wand, dropped it with a plop. Nott quickly hid behind Goyle, and the rest were startled as well.
"Don't be so nervous. I just wanted to ask—" Wade said, "You're not going to tell the professor, right? Tell them that you were scared to tears by spiders and cockroaches?
There's a big difference between only one person knowing something embarrassing and the whole school laughing at you… don't you think?"
Everyone's faces stiffened.
Especially Malfoy, who had already vowed countless times in his mind—I'll tell the professor… tell my father… break your wand… get you expelled…
But it was as if Wade could read his mind, as he smiled gently and said, "—It's just a joke with a simple Engorgement Charm; you won't get expelled for that. We've still got more than six years to spend together! Let's leave the misunderstandings behind and get along from now on—okay?"
Everyone understood his veiled threat and stiffly nodded in agreement.
Wade smiled, "Good—then it's settled."
…
Wade hadn't been out of the Potions classroom for long before he saw Michael and Padma peeking around the corner. When they saw him approach, they jumped out from the corner and started looking him over.
"You're not hurt, right?" Padma asked anxiously. "I heard a lot of screaming coming from inside."
"I'm fine, didn't get the worst of it," Wade replied.
"Cool! You took care of everything?" Michael asked excitedly. "We should get going—someone tried to come check, but we stopped them. Not sure if they'll go fetch Professor Snape."
The three hurried down the corridor, and from around the corner, a large pair of eyes peeked out.
Wade glanced back and winked, then placed his right hand behind his back and flashed an "OK" sign.
The house-elf, Maggie, grinned and raised his long fingers in an "OK" sign as well. Then he slipped into the shadows, his large ears swaying as he listened for any sounds from the Slytherins.
