Prologue (2/2)
December 18th
The next day Soohyun and I agreed to meet at Aroma. Holly didn't come with this time, so no losing a dog this time.
We were sat at a table in the back corner by the window. It was late in the evening. We were the only two in the section of the café that we were seated.
Soohyun was dressed almost the same.
Scuffed Timberlands, black ripped jeans, and a grey sweater. The same sunglasses were on. Obstructing her eyes and impairing her vision due to being indoors and having it be night time.
She was hiding many things behind those simple sunglasses.
This time however, she had no mask and her hair was down. Her pitch black hair gracefully cascaded down her shoulders and stopped mid-breast. She had straight across bangs that were held down by the red hat with a name on the back.
Despite this simple attire, she was still stunning.
In the café lighting, I could tell that Soohyun had branches of flowers tattooed along her skin. The edges of the tattoo peaked out of her sweater collar and up her neck a bit. I hadn't noticed it before.
There's a possibility they weren't there before.
"Thank you for the tea." Soohyun finally broke the peaceful silence that lingered between us two acquaintances.
"No problem. You deserve it for saving my dog from becoming roadkill. Besides, its nice to get out once in a while." It's nice to meet new people every once in a while.
"Indeed. It truly is nice to escape from the confinement of one's home or workplace every now and then."
After that, silence took over again while she sipped at her tea. It was peaceful, however. The silence was not awkward, just nice. It was as if the two of us were savoring each other's presence. That is until I decided to break it once again.
"So, are you from here? Like I know that yesterday you said that you just arrived, but you could've been on vacation or something, I was just curious-" I began to ramble. I would've continued too if she hadn't of stopped me.
She stopped me by chuckling and resting her hand on top of mine.
Her hand was soft just like last time. The scars that wrapped her fingers went further up her hand than I originally thought. The scars laced her palms, the back of her hands, and looked to extend up her wrists.
Her wrists.
However, the thought that crossed my mind after that observation was later found to be incorrect.
"Yoongi." Her small chuckle was adorable, but when she said my name. When she said my name. I had never heard my name roll off of someones tongue so nicely. Her accent was familiar too. Maybe she isn't from Gwangju?
She wasn't.
"It's okay. It was just a question. I'm actually from Daegu, but I came here from Busan. I just got to Gwangju yesterday." Daegu. Daegu. The accent. I'm from Daegu.
"Really? I'm originally from Daegu too. I just moved here two weeks ago."
"That's funny that we come from the same place. However, I only lived there for a few years before leaving to Ilsan then Busan and now Gwangju."
"So you've really traveled a lot?"
"Not willingly, but I guess so."
After that, silence took over once more. I don't think she realised that her hand was still gently grasping mine. It was as if she was now attempting to comfort herself.
She was.
"You know Soohyun, we can always come back another time. You seem out of it and it is getting late. I can drive you home." I finally spoke, setting my other hand on top of hers, and stroking my thumb along the back of her hand.
She hesitated before nodding and smiling.
It didn't reach her eyes.
It was fake.
"I have to do something before going home, but I would like to do this again."
That gave me butterflies.
So many butterflies.
"Yeah for sure."
As we walked out the café door, Soohyun never let go of my hand. She seemed tense and possibly worried.
She had a right to be tense and worried.
It was chilly. Not chilly. Freezing. The sweater she wore clearly not meeting the weather's expectations.
Yet she never shivered.
"Are you sure you don't need me to drive you? I don't mind stopping somewhere, really."
She merely shook her head in response.
"Then at least take my jacket." I began to take off my jacket to give to the girl, but she stopped me by reaching her unoccupied hand, up to rest on my shoulder.
"Yoongi. Can we meet here every night at this time?" She sounded desperate like she wanted something from me.
It wasn't what I thought she wanted.
I hesitated before carrying on removing my jacket.
"Of course. I like talking with you. You're interesting in a good way." I placed my jacket over her.
"Besides, you have to return my jacket anyways."
She slightly smiled at that.
It was real.
"Of course. Thank you, Min Yoongi."
"Anytime, just Soohyun."
She was much more than just any one thing.

Chapters after this one become significantly shorter in length. The exceptions being; intermission part 1, intermission part 2, epilogue part 1, and epilogue part 2. The story is told through the various dialogue the characters have. It's up to your interpretation of what you think Soohyun's story is. It's camplex and goes beyond Gwangju. All five books wil progressively become more clear and direct with what happend to her over time.
