Bab 1: Prologue

'It's my birthday

It's my birthday

I'mma spend my money

It's my birthday

It's my birthday

I'mma live my fantasy

It's my birthday

It's my birthday'

I woke up to the alarm on my phone.

'Oh great! It's my 18th birthday'

To say that I was excited for this would be a great lie. I was dreading my 18th birthday. Today I would find out what my future holds for me. I got out of bed and got ready for the day.

"Happy birthday, Beatrice!" my team assistant, Richard, greeted me as we walk to the shed.

"Thanks, Richard." I replied.

"Happy Birthday Beatrice!" my four little rascals greeted.

"Thank you. Now let's rake the leaves before the bell rings." I replied.

We were on our last sack of leaves when the Director called me from the window of her house. I left the rake that I was holding to Richard and went over to the Director's house.

"Good morning, Director." I greeted as I came face to face with her.

"Here's a $100. Pack your bags and leave as soon as the social worker releases all your papers to you." she replied before closing

That's all she said. No 'Happy Birthdays' or 'Good Morning'.

After doing my chores and breakfast, I went straight to the social worker's office. I sat on the chair by her table as she explains to me what will happen to me next. I just nodded my head as all words float in my head. None of them was really registering in my brain.

I was lost. I was once back to being all alone. I was having the same feeling I had when I was 5. The day when I lost my mother. I did not really understand that time what the police meant my mom is gone. I only felt the pain in my heart.

Once I was given the discharged papers, I grabbed my bag pack and 1 suitcase with all of my belongings. I left the place that I used to call home and took a taxi to the bus station.

I arrived at the bus station and stared at the ticket booth. I have nowhere to go and no one to run to. I need to decide where I would make the best out of it. I only have a limited amount of money. I checked the money in my wallet and saw $300. Most of it was from my savings. I never spent so much money while I was in the orphanage. I only bought necessities.

As I stare at the ticket booth, there is one place that I have been always wanting to go to–Crest City. It is a 10-hour ride from East Frasot. I checked how much the fare was before buying a ticket. One-way costs $60 for one person. I took a deep breath before stepping into the line to buy a bus ticket.

'This is it. There is no going back now. You will go to Crest City and start a new life there. You can do this. What do you have to lose, right?'

I was busy giving myself a pep talk I did not notice it it was already my turn in line. I bought a one-way ticket to Crest City. The old lady asked for an I.D. and I gave her my school I.D. After giving her the exact amount, she gave me my ticket and told to wait at the waiting area for the bus to arrive. I checked my ticket, and the bus leaves in 3 hours. I found an empty seat near the area. After almost half an hour of finding an empty seat, I sat down and placed my bag in front of me.

I checked my phone for the time. I was lucky to actually have a phone. One visitor at the orphanage gave me their old phone. I never really used it much other than for listening to music. I never really had anybody to contact. I was shocked when I saw it was almost lunch time. I started feeling hungry but ignored it. I needed to save my money as long as I could. Well, until I could find a job.

After 2 hours of waiting, the bus finally arrived. I dragged my small luggage and asked the conductor where I could place it. He took my luggage and placed it in the bus's compartment. I showed him my ticket, and he told me to proceed to my seat. I found my seat and was more than happy when I saw my seat is next to a window. Since the bus do not leave until all the passengers have arrived, I bought 4 biscuits and 2 bottles of water for the road. It is a 10-hour non-stop drive from East Frasot to Crest City.

20 minutes later, the bus pulled out of the station and started the 10-hour journey. I took a deep breath as we approached the main road.

'There is no going back now.'

Half way through the journey, I felt tired. As much as I would want to watch as each scenery unfold in my eyes, I allowed sleep to come over me.

Third Persons' P.O.V.

"You are doing so great! Your Dad would have been so proud of you as I am." she exclaims as she watches Beatrice from the magic well.

"How is she doing?" the man with blue eyes asked the woman wearing the white dress.

"She is doing better than I have hoped for. She has grown into a magnificent young lady." the woman with the white dress replied.

"She looks just like you." the man commented.

"But she is as brave as you. I can't wait to finally meet her." she exclaims.

"Don't worry. You will get to meet her when she is ready." the man replied.

The woman waved her hand over the magic well, and the appearance of Beatrice disappeared.
