Bab 335: Last like the first

Even if part of him wished this day would not come, Zeph knew that he had a duty to lift his head from his pillow, kiss his wives good morning, and pull in his exercise uniform for what was all but certainly the last time as a Nephilim Enforcement Academy member in Los Diablos.

If he ever returned to the city it would be because of a special assignment or part of his duties as a full-fledged member of the Black Badge Division after graduation from the academy.

"Open ranks for inspection."

The voice of the instructor echoed off the walls of the gym as Zeph and his squad took two large steps forward while the squad behind them took one forward, and the fourth and fifth squads did the reverse, opening up the ranks for the instructors to walk between each row.

Zeph had his eyes locked forward as Instructor Biggs turned to face him with his nose just inches away from his own.  Unflinching, and unblinking, Zeph did not move or react in any way.
