"You've already answered my questions, and I'm giving you a head start on your lifetime of waiting. Now, go rest."
"But I rest better when I'm with you," he countered, his voice dipping into a pleading tone.
"Jun," she said, her voice firm but her eyes softening just enough to show she wasn't angry. "Go."
He hesitated, glancing between her and the door, clearly weighing his options.
Finally, under her watchful gaze, he sighed heavily and stood up, dragging his feet toward the exit as though it physically pained him to leave.
When he reached the doorway, he turned back one last time, his hand resting on the frame.
His eyes met hers, and he gave her the most pitiful, longing look she had ever seen.
"Goodnight, Lea," he said, his voice low and mournful.
"Goodnight, Jun," she replied, her tone unwavering but the corners of her lips twitching.
